What Adrift is

New York City and (soon) Berlin electronic music listings, night by night

Adrift shows what is on tonight, what the week ahead looks like, and pages for its nights, DJs, rooms, scenes, and promoters.

It covers New York City and (soon) Berlinelectronic music. Each city’s front page moves night by night, the week page puts the next seven nights in one place, and dated links let you return to a particular day. A night page keeps the lineup, room, times, prices, age notes, and source links together. DJ and room pages collect the nights attached to each name.

There is nothing to sign up for: no accounts, no invite keys, and nothing you have to tell us to read it.

Where the listings come from

Public Resident Advisor event pages are the base. Dates, lineups, rooms, promoter names, listing text, times, prices, age notes, genre tags, going counts, flyers, and artist photos come from Resident Advisor when they appear here. Adrift gathers and organizes that material; quoted passages remain the promoter’s or artist’s own words.

Artist biographies come from Resident Advisor profiles. Artist pages print them in full and unedited; night pages may show a sourced passage with the whole biography behind a disclosure. Records and catalogue links come from Discogs. Set videos and their titles are the uploading channels’ own material on YouTube. Artist pages also link out to Resident Advisor, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, and Discogs when those addresses are available.

Room pages may gather lines that promoters repeat across that room’s Resident Advisor write-ups. Those lines are quoted exactly and shown with how many listings repeated them. A loose line stays a loose line; it is not quietly turned into a house rule.

How to read the listings

  • Rows belong to nights. Open one for the full lineup and the source listing. On the main listings pages, rows are ordered by Resident Advisor RSVPs. That measures who uses Resident Advisor, not who will turn up.
  • A sound in a box is Resident Advisor’s tag. A sound in italics is a guess from the lineup’s other tagged nights, and is written as a guess. Adrift has not listened to the music.
  • Counts come with their base. Room and DJ pages count published listings, bills, or write-ups and say which one they mean. The displayed order is an aid to reading, not a rating of a person or a night.
  • Missing information stays missing.A blank field is not filled with generated copy, an estimate, or a placeholder. Adrift’s own explanatory lines are fixed templates over listing facts.

What the listings cannot promise

Resident Advisor is a public source, not a complete record of the city. Unlisted events will be absent. New listings can arrive late, details can change, names can be spelled more than one way, and a page here can lag or get something wrong. A thin DJ or room page says as much about what the source contains as it does about the person or place.

Adrift does not review music or decide what an artist sounds like. Genre words come from a named source or from the clearly marked listing-based guess described above. It does not generate biographies, promoter copy, reviews, or descriptions and pass them off as somebody else’s words.

How current it is

The line below is read live from the published data. It is the latest listing date gathered, not a promise that every event up to that date is present.

Beta notes

This is an early public beta. Things will be missing, late, or wrong. If you find one, use the feedback button and name the specific night, DJ, room, or page; that is the most useful way to help us fix it.

Feedback is anonymous and there is no sign-in. When analytics is enabled, the site records page views, masked session replays, and the fact that feedback was sent. Feedback text is not sent as an analytics event, every input is masked in replays, Do Not Track is respected, and no person profile is created.
