Carl Raban
Carl Raban began producing music at the age of 16, initially approaching sound as an open field rather than a fixed genre framework. His earliest work was rooted in more direct, high-intensity club contexts, before expanding into a broader spectrum of electronic forms. During this phase, he released a range of material under different aliases, moving across contrasting aesthetics and compositional approaches.
This period of sustained exploration laid the foundation for a more deliberate practice. Over time, Raban shifted from accumulation toward reduction, refining his focus on atmosphere, pacing, and the relationship between presence and absence. Silence and space became structural elements, shaping how his tracks unfold and how tension is articulated.
His current work reflects a cohesive sonic identity: restrained, gradually developing, and attentive to detail. Rather than relying on immediacy, his music reveals itself over time, creating a sense of suspension between movement and stillness. While rooted in electronic music culture, his output resists strict categorisation, functioning both within club environments and as autonomous listening.
The rest of it — four more paragraphs
Beyond his solo work, Raban operates within collaborative and self-organised structures. He is the founder of Cumulonimbus — a Berlin-based label, collective, and party series initiated with close collaborators, beginning with a festival in 2019. Since then, Cumulonimbus has developed into an ongoing platform encompassing numerous releases on SoundCloud and regular events in Berlin, providing a framework for shared artistic production and presentation.
In parallel, Raban is one half of the duo Half Light Lane, extending his practice into a collaborative format.
Previously releasing under the name Raban, the transition to Carl Raban marks a consolidation of artistic direction. The change reflects a clearer alignment between identity and sound, as well as a more defined authorship following a period of work across multiple aliases.
His recent work signals a phase of refinement — focusing on precision, reduction, and the continued development of a consistent sonic language.
