Sydney/Eora-born producer and multi-instrumentalist Alec Brinsmead, aka Sonny Grin, has spent over a decade quietly carving out a name within Australia’s music scene. After years performing as a drummer and producer for a wide range of emerging and established artists, Brinsmead has stepped confidently into the spotlight with his solo project, Sonny Grin.
Blending the feel-good grooves of house and disco with jazz, soul and live musicianship, Sonny Grin’s music bridges the energy of a live band with the precision of a seasoned producer and DJ. In both the studio and on stage he moves fluidly between bass, guitar, percussion and synths, creating a distinctive live-instrument approach to electronic music that has earned him a dedicated international following.
A staple of the Sydney/Eora scene for more than a decade, Sonny has performed DJ sets alongside artists including Young Franco, Nina Las Vegas, Touch Sensitive and Tkay Maidza, while also working as a drummer for acts such as Oly Sherman, Chelsea Warner and Will Clift. As a producer he has collaborated with artists including Djanaba and Ruby Jackson, building a reputation for groove-driven, soulful productions.

Since relocating to Berlin in 2024, Sonny Grin has continued to expand his global reach, performing sold-out headline shows across Australia and Europe while cultivating a loyal audience drawn to his fusion of house, jazz and neo-soul. His debut EP RACHA (2022) quickly became a fan favourite and received international radio support from tastemaker stations including BBC Radio and Triple J. His releases span respected labels such as Local Talk (SWE), Sidekick Music (FR) and Australia’s etcetc.
On stage, Sonny Grin’s hybrid live sets channel the spontaneity of musicianship into the dancefloor, blending electronic production with real-time instrumentation and improvisation. Now based in Berlin, he curates and performs a monthly residency at the historic ACUD Macht Neu, where the collaborative spirit of his LELOUCH events brings together musicians, producers and vocalists from across the city’s vibrant creative community.
