smugsie

Smugsie's beginnings in DJing started in Germany in 2024, where she first DJ'd at a small DIY festival in Southeast Germany called Tears of Joy. Having continued to refine her skills, she since played in venues such as Section 8 in Melbourne, Kauz in Zurich and Giri and Paloma in Berlin. Inspired from an early love of soul, hiphop, psychedelic rock and jazz, Smugsie’s sets serve to provide a soundscape through which we can process, unmask and connect to ourselves, and each other.

Smugsie’s radio presence moves between her anecdotal and silly side, hosting her monthly morning show Smugsie’s Sealects with her seal on THF Radio, showcasing her record collection paired with anecdotes to start the day, to more reflective conversations with the music community on neurodivergence and its intersectionality with music, explored in her Refuge Worldwide series, Unmasking.

As a producer, Smugsie initially learnt how to make beats through the Femme Bass Mafia mentoring production programme back in 2024. Smugsie has since been working on her first EP, an experimental blend of sound design, melodic and dreamy pads scattered with field recordings from different corners of the world.
