His diverse musical background in jazz piano and record digging are important influences on his productions as well as his live & DJ-sets, blending sample-based MPC grooves, jazz harmonies, analogue synthesizers and dub elements.
Sam Irl’s tracks are regularly played on the radio and in DJ-sets by well-known artists such as Gilles Peterson, Mr. Scruff, Lefto, Jazzanova's Alex Barck, Jimpster, Session Victim, Mad Mats, to name a few.
Apart from his solo music, Sam releases records with Viennese techno pioneer and studio neighbour, Patrick Pulsinger, as „Pulsinger & Irl“, which focuses more on dub-heavy, analogue house and techno. They have played live at Berghain / Panorama Bar, Sonar Festival, Sziget Festival, Ars Electronica, Golden Pudel Hamburg, Zukunft Zurich and in other venues.
Other collaborations on the Viennese label, International Major Label, are „Midnight Embassy“, a dubbed-out project with Angela Aux from Munich, as well as „Skymax“, together with Finnish producer Stiletti-Ana and Austrian musician Feater and „Mantra Mantra“ with Daniel Helmer, concentrating on moodier & atmospheric synthesizer-based vibes.
