Sven Väth is quite simply unique. A legend in his own lifetime with a commitment and passion that has influenced the advance and evolution of electronic music. Clubs, record labels and careers have been launched. There are some people that are destined to emerge and change things. Change landscapes. Sven Väth is a risk taking visionary, an instigator, an innovator and very possibly invincible. 1981 and Frankfurt it started. Quickly the figurehead for a techno revolution in Germany that was to spread far and wide. Worldwide. Setting sail alone, this was 1981 and this was new. The Omen Club and so many other adventures punctuated this period, getting the sound out there . Vinyl then, vinyl now. Parties that mattered and changed things. Parties that reinforced a vision and eventually gave birth to Cocoon. An extraordinary residency in one of the best clubs in the world was unleashed in 1999. Cocoon Ibiza, Amnesia on a Monday night. Now 16 years of parties that have set new standards in production and have never compromised on what matters. The music. An incredible risk became, and still is, one of the great successes in modern music and clubbing. A phenomenon now attracting upwards of 80,000 visitors in a 4 month season with Sven Vath front and centre throughout. Along with Cocoon Ibiza Sven created a booking agency (now Flash Artist Booking - targeting the best and the brightest), an event agency (Cocoon Event – spreading the vision across 5 continents and now over 30 countries) and a record label (Cocoon Recordings - with a back catalogue stuffed with quality) that gets ever more important and keeps on growing. For all that you just have to meet the man behind the decks to really get it. With vinyl flailing he picks up a crowd and takes them with him. At a Sven gig you are in a performance with no one knowing quite what is going to happen. It has always been so. There may be 120 gigs a year, some very big some more intimate, but you will always feel invited and you will always see the heart of the man. That heart belongs to the crowd. Everyone is a VIP. Sven Väth is rock and roll. In October 2014 there was a happening that expressed this togetherness and mutual respect. It was a 50th birthday party in stunning surroundings where 12,000 people joined together in Mannheim to celebrate a monumental life and career. An unforgettable night of dancing and community In 2015 another very special moment as Sven was honoured by the City of Frankfurt with the „Goethplakette“, issued only to those that have made a real contribution to the cultural life of the city. A formal occasion but one that was important because it acknowledged at a different level the positivity that dance music can bring. A force for good. There was an after party of course, is Sven after all..... Some fascinating collaborations have emerged as Sven has continued to explore another passion, contemporary art. Intriguing link ups with such influential figures as Tobias Rehberger and Andreas Gursky, both long term friends, are sure to throw up more surprises in the next months and years. 2016 and that means an astonishing 35 years as a Dj and an equally astonishing 17th season of Cocoon Ibiza The most charismatic DJ of his generation is more vital and relevant than ever. André Galluzzi has been a vinyl DJ for 25 years. With residencies at TRESOR, OSTGUT and BERGHAIN and releases on labels like CADENZA; COCOON, OSTGUT TON and HIGHGADE, the co-founder of TAKSI Rec. and label head of ARAS can look back at quite a history. Born in 1973 in Frankfurt, Germany, André becomes dedicated to the fascinating world of rhythm early on. Working as a bartender in a club he gets the chance to fill in for the DJ at sweet 14 - an experience that changes the course of his life. Excelling behind the decks, he is a regular in a variety of clubs by the beginning of the 90`s. In 1994 he starts working for the renowned record distributor Neuton, where he meets PAUL BRTSCHITSCH. One year later André and Paul found the label TAKSI. Becoming a resident at Berlin’s famous TRESOR in 1996, André moves to the German capital. With the opening of OSTGUT, the parent club of well-known BERGHAIN, he lands his second residency. After the OSTGUT closing in 2001 André releases the legendary Mix Compilation ANDRÉ GALLUZZI: IM GARTEN and creates a new event series called SUBMERGE, running for two years. Famed for his intoxicating 10-hour sets and playing regularly at AMNESIA, IBIZA, André finds his place at the newly opened BERGHAIN. In 2005 he takes up a studio cooperation with GUIDO SCHNEIDER resulting in various releases on CADENZA, COCOON or HIGHGRADE, including their favored track ALBERTINO in 2007. Looking for a new playground, André establishes the label ARAS in 2011; a platform for him and up-coming talents to broadcast innovative and unconventional sounds. The same year André releases his third mix compilation STADT STRAND FLUSS, followed by joint productions with DANA RUH on OSTGUT-TON and COCOON. One year later André launches the party event WE PLAY VINYL, a statement of dedication and support for vinyl records. Taking inspiration from his second home base London, he creates several productions for CADENZA, COCOON and BAR 25 in 2013. In January 2015 he released his debut solo album ALCTRAZ on ARAS. Maayan Nidam, also performing as THE WAVES is an artist in flux, continues to change, evolve and challenge boundaries both in her Berlin studio and on stage. She has built a reputation as a fine producer, live performer & DJ who favours a subtle approach towards mesmeric moments. Her DJ sets, predominantly based in stripped-back, deep sounds, utilise an intriguing vinyl collection, using obscure interludes for re-contextualisation. This approach makes for some magical moments on the dance-floor, where a night’s highlight may come from the most unlikely of tracks. As a musician obsessed about sound and the technology behind its creation, her workflow places a strong focus on the studio environment. Triggering chain reactions between guitar pedals, drum machines, modular synths and acoustic instruments, generating sounds in unpredictable, exciting ways. As THE WAVES, Maayan has developed a solo live set that allows her to further her studio experiments and take them on the road. Magda's realm as an artist spans far beyond the typical role played by DJs and producers. With an open mind, Magda will try her hand at whatever feels right: from producing high-quality Tequila to tech collaborations, fashion and art, Magda has created a truly unique, multifaceted expression of herself. Born in Poland and raised in Detroit, Magda has soaked up the various characteristics of her surroundings, resulting in a widely-cultured perspective, tuned to see beauty and potential in the most derelict and depressed of places. As a teenager partying in Detroit, it wasn't long until Magda was fully immersed in the city's underground scene. In 1998, she was dropped straight into the deep end; she joined Minus and began touring the world as Richie Hawtin's opening DJ. Whilst this was a perfect platform for Magda to show off her talents and develop a fanbase, it brought with it the constraints of an established reputation. Magda was defined as a DJ under the Minus umbrella, but since has forged her own path. Magda's touring schedule is amongst the most high-profile and demanding around, with regular bookings at many of the world's very best house/techno clubs and festivals. She's proved herself as a consistent, adventurous and top-quality performer, with a knack for bringing tracks together in unexpected ways. As well as notable accolades such as a BBC 1 Essential Mix and playing at Timewarp's live streamed 20th anniversary, Magda has been behind some stand-out commercial mixes. 'She's A Dancing Machine', released in 2006 through Hawtin's label, was truly seminal. It intricately layered 70 tracks into 16 sections and displayed an almost unprecedented level of energy for a minimal DJ mix. She was later invited to record a mix for Fabric esteemed CD series, and adopted a similar patchwork approach to brilliant effect. Her latest, two-disc mix compilation, out through the Balance series in February, gives equal measure to the experimental and club-focused aspects of her DJing. Incorporating music from the likes of Shackleton, Murat Tepeli and Marcel Dettmann, Magda takes the listener on a thrillingly unpredictable listen. Though solo Magda releases are relatively rare, there's no doubt her ability extends beyond the booth to the studio. In the fall of 2010, Magda revealed her debut on Minus, 'From The Fallen Page'. It combined her love for Italian horror composition, Detroit techno futurism and straight-forward dancefloor functionality into a quality body of work that still sounds fresh today. She has also remixed the likes of Plastikman and Depeche Mode. Collaboration has become a vital part of Magda's studio work. Cornerbred is the project she shares with partner Daniela Huerta. Offering a respite from normal DJ sets, it revels in avant-garde and real-life concepts, utilising a broad sound pallet and lending itself to live performance. The pair have recorded mixes on Soundcloud and sites such as Oki-ni, the hour-long sessions covering a wide array of styles, sounds and periods, from 80s electro to more atonal works. DTR (Define The Relationship) is Magda's edits venture with Nyma, dedicated to 'reshaping, reintroducing and reviving early influences as a homage to the past, present and future'. So far, LL Cool J, Chaka Khan and Jody Watley have been under the DTR microscope with fascinating results. On top of all this, Magda has proved herself as a label boss, running the long-standing and successful Items & Things imprint with Marc Houle and Troy Pierce. The label thrives on the off-kilter and the uncommon, unearthing new artists and sounds that push boundaries. Thirty releases in and Items & Things proudly count the likes of Jimmy Edgar and Rework amongst its roster. With a new event series and much more in the works, 2015 is an exciting year for Magda and her fans. Her Maria Pascuala Tequila brand and design work also continue to open new avenues, each of them explored with the stamp of quality Magda has come to represent.
