  • DAX J

“A global pillar of the techno scene, continuously pushing the underground forward.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
A global pillar of the techno scene, continuously pushing the underground forward. Few artists have carved out a legacy quite like Dax J. Born in London, the DJ and producer rose from backroom parties to headlining the world’s biggest techno institutions, all while staying true to the underground and cultivating a distinctive sound that is unmistakably his own. Armed with exceptional technical skill, deep knowledge of rare and obscure records, and a meticulous focus on cutting edge sound design, Dax J has established himself as a singular force at the forefront of modern techno. His unwavering dedication has earned him consistent recognition, including multiple Top 100 placements in Resident Advisor, DJ Mag, and Groove Magazine polls, as well as nominations for Best Techno DJ, Best Breakthrough DJ, and Best British DJ from Mixmag, DJ Mag, and the DJ Awards. He is well known for his marathon closing sets, including legendary 10 hour performances at iconic clubs such as Berghain and Bassiani. As a prolific producer and label owner, his trademark sound remains in constant rotation among the scene’s most respected DJs. This signature style was first fully realised on his highly acclaimed 2015 debut album Shades of Black, released on his own Monnom Black label. Mixmag named it Album of the Month, Hardwax called it “brilliantly banging,” and it reached No.1 on Juno Records’ charts. In 2018, he followed with the multi-faceted Offending Public Morality, which earned BBC Radio 1’s “Biggest Record of the Week” and featured in the year-end Top 50 Albums lists of DJ Mag, Tsugi, and Apocalypse Mag. That same year, his debut Radio 1 Essential Mix landed him in the BBC Hall of Fame, while Be.At.TV named his 4-hour closing set at NeoPop Festival the “Best DJ Set of the Year”. Dax J continued his evolution with the 2021 album Utopian Surrealism, which Groove Magazine placed in their Top 5 Albums of the Year, and the track “Simulated Reality” was featured at the Beijing Contemporary Art Expo. In 2022, he released Soul Enforcer, a powerful response to the war in Ukraine, described by Resident Advisor as a “highlight showing off Dax’s range.” Most recently, his 2024 album War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength — a bold Orwellian reference — received widespread critical acclaim, with Juno calling it “Basic Channel on steroids.” The initial pressing sold out within its first week. At this point, it’s hard to imagine what more he could possibly achieve. Already cemented as one of the leading figures in techno, as a DJ, producer, and label head operating at the absolute highest level, one thing is certain: his passion for the music burns brighter than ever, and his relentless drive to push the genre forward in bold, unexpected directions shows no signs of slowing. Dax J remains a true visionary, leading the way for everyone who celebrates the depth, darkness, and limitless diversity of electronic music.

    the whole biography
Raised in Bristol, Jack Wallis’ earliest musical influences were shaped by dubstep, punk, and UK techno, shown by his early releases on Darwin’s label SPE:C. Following his move to Berlin in 2017, he and The Lady Machine established Unterwegs, an imprint dedicated to releasing music from like-minded talents, including Decka's pressurized, raw, and driving techno productions. Since then, he has released on top-tier labels such as Semantica, Tar Hallow, KEY Vinyl, AMTK+ and Token. Pushing the boundaries of modern-day techno, his music has earned consistent recognition, with multiple sold-out records and a growing portfolio of remix commissions for esteemed artists such as Dimi Angelis. He now runs a second label with artist Roseen ‘Frameworks’ releasing their debut album "Imaginary Places" in 2023. Rooted in a deep commitment to techno's original essence, Frameworks has continued to expand with releases by Ray Kajioka, Alexander Kowalski, and remix appearances from Don Williams, DISX3, and Border One. The label is approaching its 10th release, due in early 2027. With regular appearances at the Berlin institutions Berghain and Tresor, his fervent love for analog in the studio translates also behind the decks. DJ’ing only with vinyl since the beginning of his career, Decka’s sets highlight both his clear-cut technique, his extensive knowledge and true passion for techno.

MARRØN is always trying to exceed the limits of himself and the crowd, with his fast but extremely rhythmic sound driven by his roots. Highly inspired by the powerful and strong-willed Marrons who freed themselves from slavery to live freely in the primeval forest of Surinam. Starting his musical evolution with Afro Deep, characterized by its African beats and used these elements to connect with techno music. The freedom and diversity of techno persuaded him to really dig into the underground scene and create a name of his own. This sound contains African groove and a powerful but atmospheric techno sound with which he aims to hypnotize the crowd to stay on the dancefloor for hours.

    the whole biography
Chinedum Nwosu’s relentless passion for the finer elements of electronic dance music has seen her win over hearts and minds in every aspect she has turned her attention to - from her transformative DJ performances, authoritative productions and exquisitely curated labels - Intacto and now the newly formed Music That Moves (MTM Records). Like only a handful others in the scene, her name signifies a strength of purpose and commitment to quality that is rare in the world of dance music. Based in Amsterdam and with Nigerian roots, Shinedoe has graced some of the world’s most significant DJ booths - from her countless performances in Berlin's Berghain to underground festivals and clubs all over the world. Beginning her journey as a DJ at 19 years old, Shinedoe has drawn inspiration from originators like Jeff Mills, Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Carl Craig, Kevin Saunderson and Orlando Voorn. With her deep connection to the sounds of Detroit, Chicago and the often unsung Amsterdam scene, her DJ sets blend these influences with a warmth and style that few can hope to emulate - her mixes take dancers on a sensual, explorative trip to the beyond. Having honed her considerable skills at her own Inmotion parties in Amsterdam from 2001 (now renamed ‘Intacto Nights’), Shinedoe shared the stage with techno and house royalty, whilst making a huge impact on Amsterdam’s burgeoning scene with her forward-thinking booking policy. Shinedoe radiates a positivity that at times can seem in short supply elsewhere in electronic dance music. Dive in to her extensive back catalogue of productions and it’s clear she has established a sound that is recognisably her own - both timeless and unique. Her releases stretch back over a decade to when her debut track Dillema dropped on Dutch label 100% Pure in 2004. It was clear nothing was going to hold her back - the track was picked up by everyone from the techno elite to the bedroom DJs and ravers who couldn't get enough of its tough, funky and infectious groove. A series of killer 12s would follow, both on her own Intacto imprint and labels such as Ibadan Records, Cocoon, Bpitch Control - to name but a few. Key moments included the Fuse Presents Shinedoe mix that dropped in 2007 on Music Man, which added extra heat to her already hot reputation. Having also contributed stellar mixes for XLR8, Groove magazine, Electronic Beats, and Data Transmission, Shinedoe also delivered exceptional remixes for the likes of The Knife, Orlando Voorn, Pantha Du Prince, Terre Thaemlitz, and Booka Shade. Since its founding in 2004, Intacto has gone from strength to strength under the guidance of Shinedoe and co-head 2000 and One (Dylan Hermelijn). Now with around 100 releases to its name, the label represents a distinct approach to electronic music - rooted in respect, quality and professionalism, yet wildly courageous and adventurous in its releases. Intacto was heavily populated by Shinedoe’s productions - including three albums (Sound Travelling, No Boundaries and Illogical Directions) that won plaudits across the board. Yet in in 2018, Shinedoe founded Music That Moves, a new label exclusively focussing on her own musical vision. MTM is the home for precision techno with soul - literally music that will move you in every sense, and another reminder as to why Chinedum Nwosu is one of the most engaging and inspiring artists in electronic music. Music That Moves (MTM) Founded in 2018, Music That Moves is the latest venture by Amsterdam-based techno maven Shinedoe. Having been jointly responsible for the long running and hugely influential Intacto label with partner in crime 2000 and One, Chinedum Nwosu’s new label is a vehicle for her own special musical vision. Focussing entirely on Shinedoe productions, Music That Moves is the home for precision techno with soul - literally music that will move you in every sense.

    the whole biography
Under the Priori moniker, Québecois musician Francis Latreille has established himself as a crucial voice in underground techno. Across a sprawling discography, including two full length albums, several eps, and a host of collaborative projects, Priori builds a hyper-detailed world steeped in science fiction and fantasy, residing somewhere between the biological and the synthetic, the actual and the possible. Priori’s meticulously crafted dance music is full of fractalizing patterns, ear-prickling textures, and crystalline melodies that emerge and flicker in stunning detail; it is evocative, enchanting, and always moving. Priori is also an accomplished mixing engineer who has worked with James K, Bambii, Maara, Ex-terrestrial, Roza Terenzi, D.Tiffany, Regular Fantasy, Ramzi, URA and many more. As one half of NAFF recordings and the Jump Source recording studio, Francis is steadily shaping the course of underground electronic dance music in Canada and abroad. On May 30th, 2024, released his third full length album. Entitled This but More, the record sees Priori sidestepping the club in favor of a more contemplative space, yielding electronic compositions layered with acoustic instrumentation and spectral processing. The album includes a booklet of suggested stories by Devon Hansen and animated visuals by Jack Anderson.

“Gabrielle Kwarteng’s journey continues to be one of passion, dedication and fate.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Gabrielle Kwarteng’s journey continues to be one of passion, dedication and fate. Born and raised in New York, Kwarteng has withstood shifting sands in dance music to represent a curatorial presence with a deep knowledge of music history, driven by a dedication to regenerating its culture. In an era of everything at once, Kwarteng is a DJ who weaves stories for the dancefloor that often look to the past, while always focusing on possible futures. In an era of sonic singularities, Kwarteng’s flexibility and curiosity is a virtue; her long-awaited debut at Dekmantel Festival in 2023 resulted in no less than three sets across the weekend, each possessing contrasting energies. Elsewhere London’s iconic Fabric have championed Kwarteng on multiple occasions, programming her into their prestigious 25th birthday celebrations alongside the likes of Ben UFO and Ricardo Villalobos. At Berghain, she has appeared with even greater frequency as part of some of the fabled club’s most crucial parties, including CSD, Silvester, as well as smoothly piloting seven-hour closing sets in Panorama Bar. Such reverberations have reached far beyond the club; FKA twigs extended a personal invite to soundtrack her 2024 Met Gala afterparty. Taking place at The Standard, Kwarteng played just a few blocks uptown from the Soho Grand ballroom, where she had once furtively begun her first DJ residency, less than a decade earlier. The roots of this keen musicality run deep. Born in Brooklyn to Ghanaian parents but raised in the Bronx, Kwarteng’s childhood was soundtracked by a mix of first-wave Highlife, Afrobeat and disco. Outside her own front door, in a thriving neighborhood of diverse American experiences, entire sounds and scenes expanded and exploded as pop-culture began to mutate in new ways, both online and off. Crossing to Manhattan for school, the tempo changed entirely as rock, hip hop and experimental music filled Kwarteng’s ears, accompanying her intense study. Juggling academia with the beat became part of life, and she was later presented with the Mixcloud Online Radio Award for Best Eclectic Show, broadcasting on then burgeoning online radio station, The Lot. An early and completely unexpected acknowledgement of an instinct for music that traversed genre expectations, it laid down the foundations for her later move and return to Europe, and a commitment to trusting her creative instincts. Here, Kwarteng has not only become a fixture in established, open-minded musical spaces everywhere from Berlin, London, Amsterdam and Paris, but is equally called upon to establish the energy of new ventures, such as Horst Club in Belgium. Her resplendent selections have made connections further still, on tour in Australia, South America and soon to include Asia. Listening and dancing to Kwarteng, whether in a cavernous rave hall, a sweat-soaked underground club or amid the temporary pleasures of a festival, is an experience that feels at once familiar but always energizing. Fluidly slipping through a mix of heady 80s and 90s US house, disco interpretations that traverse diaspora and eras, and the futurist pulse of physical, emotive techno, Kwarteng expertly matches the requisite energy of contemporary queer rave culture. This understanding led to an invitation to make a storied Glastonbury festival debut at the legendary Block 9, the deepest pleasure center within the nocturnal NYC Downlow, before returning in 2024 for a back-to-back set with Shanti Celeste, this time on the wider scale of the Silver Hayes stage. Wherever she performs, Kwarteng’s expertise serves to not only continue the championing of Black American genres such as house, techno and disco, but equally, to explore the continuum of global dance music as a whole. Having laid the foundations for a unique musical journey, it’s a level of respect that’s tangible on any dancefloor. In these increasingly sacred spaces, Gabrielle Kwarteng’s personal passion translates into collective ecstasy. The dig continues.

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Gerd Janson is running the German label Running Back together with Thorsten Scheu (aka Glance). As many kids who have grown up in the early 90s in the South West of Germany, Gerd Janson was a regular guest at Mannheim’s legendary Milk Club. Although this venue was most popular for putting jungle on the map in Germany, Gerd always used to wait eagerly for the early morning hours when the pace slowed down and US styled house was the ruling sound. In the following years, his deep love for house and disco music was fed in Frankfurt’s Wild Pitch Club by Heiko MSO and Ata. In 1998, Gerd Janson finally had his first DJ residency at Darmstadt’s Café Kesselhaus. Gerd Janson has been serving the hottest house and disco cuts at Frankfurt’s Robert Johnson where he has been hosting the Liquid club nights together with DJ heavyweight Thomas Hammann for the past few years. Without a doubt, Gerd Janson is one of the hottest talents on the German DJ circuit. The word has spread, and so he’s travelling a lot as a DJ now. And when not spinning records he’s known as a prolific music journalist writing for Groove magazine or Spex …, or he’s busy working at the Pentagon Recordstore in his hometown Darmstadt and as part of the staff for the Red Bull Music Academy. Recently, he even started doing shitty remixes for acts like Antena or DJ Designer Imposter and released a compilation of weirdo 80ies jams together with Jazzanova on Sonar Kollektiv. Don’t you like that? Red Bull Music Academy Radio Bio: One of our most treasured Academy team members, Gerd Janson is the quintessential DJ’s DJ, unearthing the gems that get other music lovers hot and excited. The man has his plate full. Whether at the helm of the long-running Liquid club night at Frankfurt’s Robert Johnson with DJ comrade Thomas Hammann, dishing out simmering analog House as co-owner of label Running Back, or penning many a story for Germany’s Spex and Groove magazines, not to mention his scholarship of American studies, he seems to run on more powerful batteries than the rest of us. Enjoy this adventure through magic dance music new & old, with special guest appearance by Kool DJ Pink Alert. It’s risky, but it’ll make you frisky.

“A leader in global dance music, Louie Vega has painted an award-winning career from a palette mixed with everything from house, salsa and afro-beat, to jazz, hip hop, gospel and soul.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
A leader in global dance music, Louie Vega has painted an award-winning career from a palette mixed with everything from house, salsa and afro-beat, to jazz, hip hop, gospel and soul. What distinguishes the Grammy winner and 7-time nominee as one of the best living house music deejays is his ability to evolve alongside the times, distill the current musical landscape through his unique taste and put his own timeless spin on all the music he creates. “Little” Louie Vega, as he is sometimes affectionately known, was born in the Bronx into a musically gifted family (his father is a jazz saxophonist and his uncle, Salsa King Héctor Lavoe). The “Little” moniker is ironic, given the fact that by the 80s he was deejaying at clubs he wasn’t even old enough to attend, holding residencies at Studio 54, Devil’s Nest, Heartthrob, Roseland and playing at the Palladium, Area, 1018 and other seminal New York City Clubs. Soon Vega was producing his own remixes, which included Information Society’s “Running”, “What’s On Your Mind”, Noel’s “Silent Morning”, Cover Girl’s “Because Of You”, and Debbie Gibson’s “Only in my Dreams.” Then in 1991 he joined Atlantic Records and recorded an album — hitting the mainstream. Teaming up with an up-and-coming Marc Anthony, he produced “Ride on the Rhythm” co-written with India & Derek Whitaker. An immediate club hit, the single put Vega and Anthony on the map. The duo would rock the club circuit with their success culminating when they opened for Tito Puente at his 100th Album concert at Madison Square Garden. One of the keys to Vega’s success is his refusal to be boxed into any one category, marked by the various styles his songs play with and by his fruitful collaboration with other artists. More success came in 1991 from the production team he created with Brooklyn-based deejay Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez. Masters at Work, as they were called, were responsible for the critically acclaimed albums “Nuyorican Soul” and “Masters At Work - Our Time is Coming. ” Not to mention the duo found the time to remix and/ or produce for Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Madonna, Jamiroquai, Tito Puente, India, Janet Jackson, Tania Maria, George Benson, Black Eyed Peas, Femi Kuti, Jocelyn Brown, Los Amigos Invisibles, Bebe Winans and Earth Wind & Fire. Vega, always hungry for a challenge, expanded into a new role of record label owner. Featuring a roster that included Anané Vega, Luisito Quintero, Elements Of Life & E.O.L. Soulfrito (his live bands), Mr. V, Boddhi Satva, Hugh Masekela, Roberto Roena, Lisa Fischer, and Cindy Mizelle, Vega Records has released over 180 singles and 11 Full Length CD / Albums. In addition, Louie Vega has released over 30 compilations (with over 2 million cds sold) on the industry’s most revered imprints, including Ministry of Sound Recordings, Defected Records, Kingstreet, Azuli, Division (Italy), BBE, Concept, R2, and Strictly Rhythm records. Like his businesses, Vega’s music also flourished. In 2006, he received a Grammy Award for his remix of Curtis Mayfield’s “Superfly” on Rhino Records. Then, not more than a year later, Cirque Du Soleil approached him and the house-music group Blaze to compose and produce a song for a once in a lifetime event. Anané Vega sang the lead and the Elements Of life band performed the song “One Dream” to the acrobatics and art of Cirque Du Soleil during the 2007 Super Bowl Pre-Game Show to over 70,000 people at Miami’s Dolphin Stadium. The performance was viewed by 145 million television viewers. …Yet as we move through the twenty-tens, Louie shows no signs of slowing down… Vega’s global fandom requires the famed producer extraordinaire to be in many places at once. Radio was a natural extension to his dj performances. In 2010, Vega and Kevin Hedge started a show, Roots NYC Live Radio Show on WBLS 107.5 (New York’s longest running and biggest R&B and soul radio station). Rated the #3 radio show in New York on Friday night, they air every Friday from 10PM – Midnight (stream live www.wbls.com). To keep the music flowing on all continents, Vega can also be heard every Friday from 8pm – 10pm at House Fm on the Dance Ritual Radio show with (www.housefm.net) in London, and every Saturday since 2010 at 10pm via KAYA FM’s Dance Ritual with Louie Vega (www.kayafm.co.za) in Johannesburg, South Africa. Ever the music innovator, in 2013 Vega released Elements of Life – Eclipse on the legendary Fania records. The record, 4 ½ years in the making, keeps the style of Vega’s earlier albums intact (African, Jazz, Latin, World), but is mixed with Soul, R&B, Gospel and Blues sounds. Featured artists on the album include Anané Vega, Josh Milan, Lisa Fischer, Cindy Mizelle, Ursula Rucker, Jose Mangual Jr., Luisito Quintero, Oveus Maximus and an all-star cast of musicians. The album’s occasion was momentous because it was the first ‘new artist’ album Fania released in years. In Vega’s words, “…It really comes full circle now, being able to be on the label my uncle Héctor Lavoe was on and the Fania All Stars who are all great inspirations for me. Fania Records is to Latin music what Motown is to R&B and Soul, so to even be a small page in this encyclopedia of music is a dream come true.” 2016 was a monumental year for Vega. His emblematic 2016 album Louie Vega Starring… XXVIII was nominated for a Grammy award for Best Dance / Electronic Album. After 30 years in music, Vega has reached a distinct and unmatched level in his career. He knows where global sounds live and hide. And he skillfully capitalized on relationships with the leaders of those sounds by understanding what they represent and how they can be infused. There are few times in an artist’s career where their sonic pallet and connections with other artists reach a level of pure magic. This album is the latest testament to Louie’s growing legacy as a master bricoleur. Starring...XXVIII is a dual disc conceptual record featuring over twenty-five artists on twenty-eight different songs. Collaborators on the album are George Clinton & Funkadelic, 3 Winans Brothers & the Clark Sisters, Josh Milan, Ananè Vega, Lisa Fischer, N’Dea Davenport, Caron Wheeler, Monique Bingham and more. The record is Louie Vega’s first solo album and a contender for his magnum opus. And music critics aren’t the only ones celebrating Vega’s influence and impact. Kanye West released his seventh studio album, “The Life of Pablo” to ravishing fanfare and spectacle. One of the album’s standout tracks and fan favorite was “Fade,” which finds West diggin’ in the crates to sample two Vega and Barbara Tucker classics - “Deep Inside” by Hardrive featuring Barbara Tucker and “I Get Lifted” by Barbara Tucker. the whole biography
Born in the quiet village of Skene in southwest Sweden, the Moroccan/Chilean DJ and producer grew up in a world of structure and devotion before a new sense of purpose pulled him toward Stockholm. There, the co-founder and organiser of the Ritmo Liminal club concept shifted from collecting records to releasing his own and stepping behind the decks. His sound found its pulse: a blend of introspection and rhythm that lures you in rather than shouting for space delivering sounds that whisper, thump, and unfold like a slow-burning revelation. With a growing discography, El Mansouri’s productions move between deep, driving rhythms and rich, ambient textures that celebrate negative space. Galapagos, his collaboration with Swedish icon Dorisburg, leans into the latter, offering a more expansive, big-room feel, recognised by dance music pioneers. El Mansouri’s previous release, Tja Hej Salam on Aniara Recordings, showcased his ability to craft hypnotic, intricate tracks, while his contribution to Nous Klaer’s Paraels III compilation further demonstrated his range. Mattias’ journey began with cracked software and a pull to play, experiment with, and bridge different pockets of the dance music world. Rhythm became his foundation, first from following a curiosity for certain drum patterns and eventually laying them as the skeletal groove in his productions. This ethos bleeds into his DJ sets, which are as thoughtful as they are unpredictable. Seamlessly weaving house, techno, disco, funk, and global sounds, he crafts moments of tension, intimacy, and surprise, keeping listeners in suspense over what comes next. A resident at Stockholm’s revered Under Bron/Trädgården, El Mansouri has found a home in one of Sweden’s most important incubators of electronic music talent. This residency has shaped him as an artist, providing a space to refine his sound and connect with a vibrant community. Beyond his home turf, he has played at some of the world’s most respected festivals and clubs, including Panorama Bar and a standout back-to-back set with Hunee at Draaimolen. Mattias brings an honesty to his work that pulls away the curtain and invites us into his unique flavour of hybridism — music with underground depth and far-reaching appeal.
