Artist, producer and DJ Hugo Capablanca likes to call himself an “eternal dilettante”, for a reason. A rebel, an outsider, but also a mainstay of the Berlin underground for well over a decade —now relocated to Lisbon— Hugo has been recently described by RA as an “underground music hero playing by his own cosmic rules”, and there might be quite some truth to that. Over the years Capablanca has extensively toured worldwide, graced the most revered DJ booths (from Panorama bar in Berlin to Bassiani in Tbilisi, Vent in Tokyo, or Public Records in NY), and shared stage with legends like DJ Harvey, Tom Of England, Andrew Weatherall, and Optimo, to name a few, yet his name remains somehow a bit of an IYKYK thing. His DJ sets, studio productions and live performances —be it under his own name or together with Marc Piñol as C.P.I.—reflect a very distinctive psychedelic energy, fusing rather diverse sonic styles and genres that generate surprising dynamics.
