From Disco to Disco, from piano to electro & more: Eric D. Clark started his DJ career 30+ years ago. From Sunday church performances in California at the age of 10 as a classical & gospel piano prodigy to disco and electronica keyboard mastering, Eric trained his ears and hands until 1981 when he finally claimed his place behind turntables and took up residencies in Sacramento and San Francisco’s most famous clubs including; Vortex, Dancepark, 181, The Underground, Das Klub and The End Up. Six years later, Eric integrated the Parisian night life and played in an eclectic array of venues: galleries, straight and gay clubs, as well as early soul, break-beat, and jungle raves… By the early 90’s he started to regularly visit Germany on the look-out for new “underground” dance music. Soon his Whirlpool Productions trio (with Justus Köhncke & Hans Nieswandt) was born and took the European scene by storm, especially Italy, with hits such as The Cold Song and From Disco to Disco. Eric then began to explore other opportunities with solo releases including Fur Dancefloor on Ladomat and collaborated with numerous musicians including: Amanda Lear, Marla Glenn, Mandel Turner, Army of Lovers, Leo Garcia, Chicks on Speed, Gloria Gaynor, Giorgio Moroder, Mouse on Mars, Sex in Dallas, Angie Reed, Chaka Khan, Stereo Total, Juana Molina, Jesus di Ibiza, TLC… In 2007 Eric released E=dC² on Firm Recordings, and unexpectedly became a professor, teaching at The Stædel School for Visual Arts in Frankfurt alongside writing for Spex. 2014 marked Eric’s debut as a curator, as he set-up the exhibition "Vinyl never died" in Oslo’s Demons Mouth gallery. Eric D. Clark has played in Europe, South America and the USA in venues such as the Panoramabar (live) & Ostgut, Tresor, E-Werk, Maria, WeekEnd, along with current residencies at Paloma (“ALL Night!” & the “T”: a Sunday tea-dance), The Black Lodge, (“The Gist of Music” Thursdays), Suicide Circus (“encore une fois”), Kit Kat Club (“Electric Monday’s”), and Morphine Bar in Berlin, Cocoon in Frankfurt, La Scala in Paris, Pacha in Buenos Aires & Ibiza, the ICA in London, Celebretia in Milan, DNA Lounge & The End-Up in SF, at MELT, the Berlin & LA Gay Prides, several celebs events including Frieze Magazine launch, MTV Beach Party in Uruguay and Audiotool & Adobe events in LA, alongside holding residencies in a variety of clubs such as the Funky Chicken in Cologne. At the moment, Eric juggles DJ residencies in Germany and Croatia, managing his label Subcurrent, playing gigs around Europe and the USA, lending his vocal expertise and remixing score of dance tracks and designing EP covers. His newest releases include “Bored” with Stefan Braatz on Poker Flat Recordings (supported by Richie Hawtin, Ame, and Joris Voorn), “Daylight” with Mouse on Mars plus a few live shows including at the Elbe Philharmonie and MIchel Berger Festival, and remixes of “Walks” by Doc Martin and “Robot Love” by Chicks on Speed, among many more. Eric recently opened “UPSTAIRS at €RiX‘” in Berlin, a private gallery in his studio, he is also producing an E.D.C. column for Starship Magazine, and the introduction to the screening of Sun Ra’s “Space is the Place”. text by Nadia Says (Y.M.A.)

  • Lena Willikens

    Cologne · 7 bookings since Aug 2025

“Lena Willikens doesn’t play the hits.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Lena Willikens doesn’t play the hits. When she’s behind the decks, even her biggest fans often have no idea exactly what she’s playing, and that’s part of the magic. Like all DJs, Willikens of course has a passion for records and is always on the hunt for elusive bits of music, but as an artist, her work doesn’t hinge on any one track, or even a handful of tracks. She’s after something bigger, something that’s truly transportive for those on the dancefloor, and the tracks she plays – whether they’re bizarre slices of synth exploration, some ominously churning proto-industrial stomp or something else that simply defies classification – are all parts of a larger, more psychically satisfying whole. Born and raised in Germany, Willikens first honed her unique approach during a long residency at Düsseldorf’s Salon des Amateurs, a much-loved nightspot that has proven to be a hotbed of free-thinking DJ talent. Outside of the club, she also found a platform on Radio Cómeme, where her Sentimental Flashback radio show allowed Willikens to dive deep into all sorts of unusual musical wormholes. (The Cómeme label was also home to her first EP, 2015's Phantom Delia.) These days, however, Willikens' radio adventures happen on NTS, where she pilots the monthly Lightning Conductor program. Now based in Amsterdam, her curatory prowess prompted an invite from Dekmantel to put together the fifth installment of their acclaimed Selectors compilation series, and she also contributed a track to the label’s run of all-star 10th anniversary EPs. As a remixer, she's been tapped in recent years to rework the likes of Lena Platonos, rRoxymore, S U R V I V E, Simian Mobile Disco and Ana Helder, amongst others. And amidst all this activity, she's also been busy with Phantom Kino Ballett, a collaboration with artist Sarah Szczesny that lands somewhere between immersive audio-visual experience and performance art, allowing Willikens to indulge her transportive impulses in a completely new way. Nevertheless, it’s in the DJ booth where Willikens continues to make the biggest impact. As of late, she’s forged a particularly potent partnership with fellow sonic explorer and Salon des Amateurs alum Vladimir Ivkovic, the two engaging in a sort of mind meld that brings together their shared love of electronic music’s darkest and most bizarre corners. Regardless of whether she’s playing alone or in tandem with someone else, Willikens isn’t the kind of artist who adheres to straight lines. Expect different temperatures, different moods and a dollop of chaos, just to keep things interesting. Circuitous paths take precedence over direct routes, and although not even Willikens herself always knows the final destination, when she’s at the helm, the journey is bound to be thrilling.
