If you want to trace the beginnings of DJ Pete's status in Techno culture, you have to go back a very long way. He emerged as a DJ in the pioneering days of the Berlin scene during the late 80s. As a producer he made his name with the first release on Chain Reaction in 1995, a sub-label of the Basic Channel imprint, together with René Löwe aka Vainqueur as Scion. Scion also released the first commercially available CD ever produced with the then newly developed software Ableton Live in 2002 and later continued their collaboration as Substance & Vainqueur on the label Scion Versions. Substance, the acclaimed alias DJ Pete uses for his own productions has a back catalogue of highly influential solo efforts and an impressive string of acclaimed remixes for pivotal Techno artists like Juan Atkins, Regis, Kessell, Orphx, Robert Hood, Rhythm & Sound, Monolake or Shed, among many others. DJ Pete earned similar respect behind the decks, combining highly individual yet refined mixing skills with both his vast encyclopedic knowledge of Techno history and an unquenchable thirst for new sounds that carry the potential to push all boundaries. Beyond that his energetic sets also incorporate elements of pure Techno, the Hard Wax tradition and powerful House tracks. His seemingly unlimited scope is informed by frequent Dynamic Tension nights at Tresor in the late 90s with Surgeon and his residency at Berghain since its opening, as well as countless successful gigs at the most crucial nights of the scene's international circuit. He is also known to merge Techno with Dubstep and selecting Reggae, particularly while working the mighty Killasan sound system as core DJ member of the seminal Wax Treatment events. DJ Pete's lauded signature style also benefits from his numerous experiences as part of the cherished live acts TR-101 (an improvisational live act in collaboration with Sleeparchive), Scion (either with or without vocalist Paul St. Hilaire), and gigs with many other likeminded DJ innovators. A typical DJ Pete performance is always delivering an array of programming, sequencing, layering and live effects that goes well beyond a mere presentation of tracks. She's a resident of Berlin based collectives Dissident and TILT. Her work envisions the dance floor as a common ground of light and dark, always holding space for the freaks, hoes, gays, thems and dolls. For Crypto, the club is a refuge that breaks barriers – between abstract and functional, moon and sun, right and wrong. A place that brings people together through frequencies and movement. One nation under a groove.* Spending 10+ years of finessing her abilities in selection, mixing techniques and crowd control, Crypto’s power lies in the way she leads the dance floor from collective immersion to euphoric peaks and back to tunnel zone. Expect a candid dance floor and sultry madness while she's zoning out in the booth, pouring her heart right in front of you. Still a dedicated club kid, joining her community on nights free of duty... Crypto’s connection to club culture keeps staying strong and growing deeper, weekend after weekend. On her journey through club culture, Crypto used to be a promotor, worked at digital and vinyl distribution Word And Sound and wrote music reviews. Combined with handling the books herself for more than 10 years, she unlocked deep insight into what makes the industry tick. Across Europe, Cryptofauna made appearances at various venues, including Panorama Bar and Säule as well as Tresor, OHM and RSO in Berlin; POING in Rotterdam; Macadam in Nantes; FVTVR in Paris; and Club RAUM, Radion and Lo-Fi in Amsterdam. Mays is one of the first Ukrainian DJs who started playing proper techno for big crowds in the 2000s. Back then, Ukraine had only rare musical geeks who discovered the genre. So Mays helped pioneer the techno wave in Ukraine, no doubt. Ruslan Mays in Ukraine is a resident of the “VESELKA” parties, a regular guest of the “∄” and Arsenal XXII clubs and some big festivals, including ICKPA and Povitrya. As you might have guessed, these days he is still known as a proper techno DJ who owns a fantastic masterpiece of playing. Over 20 years of experience as a vinyl playing DJ, cements him as a real guru of the techno arts.
