As one of the most iconic artists of her generation, Ellen Allien embodies the core ethos of techno: a visionary who looks to the future for inspiration, carving out her own niche and presiding over an empire that has infused techno, rave, and dance music culture with her unique DNA. Ellen Allien’s journey through the years is a blueprint for a healthy underground community and grounded career in music. Her playful mind and openness to sharing knowledge, imbues her art with an energy and inspiration that’s been highly influential to the subculture across art, design and fashion in her native Berlin. Ellen’s eternally creative mind has led to the production of ten albums, to join her extensive back catalogue of singles, EPs and remix work for seminal labels like Warp and Mute. Most recently she’s collaborated with Italian band Ash Code to bring together dark wave and techno in a seamless dancefloor marriage, remixed Lebanon Hannover and Rosa Anschütz, as well as contributing tracks to compilations from Gegen and Serendeepity. In 2023 she celebrated the 20th Anniversary of her seminal album ‘Stadtkind’, her most recent album AurAA delivered emotional techno resonating far beyond the dancefloor. A dynamic selector who prides herself on her extensive knowledge of music and dance floors, she’s travelled the globe as a DJ playing at every major club on the circuit, and commanding the big stages at festivals from Europe to South America. Ellen runs her days long ‘We Are Not Alone’ raves at RSO in her beloved hometown Berlin, bringing the party worldwide as UFO Rave, and she hosts in-store record shop gigs as Vinylism. In her role as head of BPitch, and UFO Inc., Ellen channels her ceaseless passion for digging into A&R, seeking out and nurturing new talent, alongside established artists and friends. She has signed new artists to her labels, including German trans-media artist Rosa Anschütz, Dutch electronic producer extraordinaire Dollkraut/DJ Europarking, and supports the growth of future talents like Métaraph and Shaleen through the booking agency. Steering the label to become one of the most important platforms for underground electronica. BPitch operates in a league of all its own, influencing the scene at home, but with a global reach. Ellen Allien’s constant forward focus led to the conception of a brand new record label, UFO Inc. in 2018; as an incubator for rough, ravey, raw techno – providing an additional space for Ellen to release her tougher productions, purely for the dancefloor. 2020-22 presented an extremely difficult situation for Ellen and the rest of the global electronic music community as clubs and festivals were shut down. Unable to tour, she conceived the hugely successful Balcony Streaming sessions, hosted from her home in Berlin. The livestreams allowed her to continue DJing and engaging with her fanbase, while also supporting music from a wide range of artists, new and old. During this time, she channeled her curatorial experience into an expansive three-part (expanded to six in 2023) compilation series. Named after her We Are Not Alone parties, the collection comprised tracks from artists that embody the ethos; club music with a rugged aesthetic and an unapologetic dancefloor focus. Volumes four-six were released together with a film and installation as AFTER DARK with Ellen’s longtime collaborator the director/photographer Stini Roehrs.AFTER DARK exhibition premiered at the Hamburger Bahnhof modern art museum in Berlin in July, with a new soundtrack by Ellen.

“If you want to trace the beginnings of DJ Pete's status in Techno culture, you have to go back a very long way.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
If you want to trace the beginnings of DJ Pete's status in Techno culture, you have to go back a very long way. He emerged as a DJ in the pioneering days of the Berlin scene during the late 80s. As a producer he made his name with the first release on Chain Reaction in 1995, a sub-label of the Basic Channel imprint, together with René Löwe aka Vainqueur as Scion. Scion also released the first commercially available CD ever produced with the then newly developed software Ableton Live in 2002 and later continued their collaboration as Substance & Vainqueur on the label Scion Versions. Substance, the acclaimed alias DJ Pete uses for his own productions has a back catalogue of highly influential solo efforts and an impressive string of acclaimed remixes for pivotal Techno artists like Juan Atkins, Regis, Kessell, Orphx, Robert Hood, Rhythm & Sound, Monolake or Shed, among many others. DJ Pete earned similar respect behind the decks, combining highly individual yet refined mixing skills with both his vast encyclopedic knowledge of Techno history and an unquenchable thirst for new sounds that carry the potential to push all boundaries. Beyond that his energetic sets also incorporate elements of pure Techno, the Hard Wax tradition and powerful House tracks. His seemingly unlimited scope is informed by frequent Dynamic Tension nights at Tresor in the late 90s with Surgeon and his residency at Berghain since its opening, as well as countless successful gigs at the most crucial nights of the scene's international circuit. He is also known to merge Techno with Dubstep and selecting Reggae, particularly while working the mighty Killasan sound system as core DJ member of the seminal Wax Treatment events. DJ Pete's lauded signature style also benefits from his numerous experiences as part of the cherished live acts TR-101 (an improvisational live act in collaboration with Sleeparchive), Scion (either with or without vocalist Paul St. Hilaire), and gigs with many other likeminded DJ innovators. A typical DJ Pete performance is always delivering an array of programming, sequencing, layering and live effects that goes well beyond a mere presentation of tracks. True to Techno's original claim, innovations in sound and technology are intuitively employed to achieve a floor sensation that manages to involve the crowd on as many levels as possible.
Their RA profile lists Scion Versions and Chain Reaction.

“Techno has always been about imagining the future and experiencing the excitement of change and discovery.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Techno has always been about imagining the future and experiencing the excitement of change and discovery. If anyone has lived up to this aspiration in recent years it would be Stefan Goldmann. Through every release and project he has brought a new edge to the table, with several of his tracks having served as genre-shifting blueprints – from his early reductionist works for the Classic and Perlon labels to Sleepy Hollow or Lunatic Fringe. Utilising an evolutionary approach which takes nothing for granted he is continuously infusing variation into the formal core of techno – from shifting meters to designing tuning systems to re-imagining the technological base of storing music. Radical yet playful innovation has consequently also become the criterion of Macro, the label he operates with Finn Johannsen. Stefan Goldmann performs regularly throughout Europe, Asia, the Americas and Australia. In addition he has expanded his artistic reach through a wide array of extraordinary projects outside of club culture, while maintaining an approach that remains essentially techno: investigating grid rhythm, sampling, vinyl culture or digitisation down to their cores. These encounters range from an intimate solo performance at Kyoto's iconic Honen-in Temple to performing the first ever electronic concert at Philharmonie Berlin's Grand Hall, in addition to curating a two-day festival for the eminent classical music institution. Commissions include the large-scale music theatre composition 'alif', site-specific concerts at LA's LACMA museum and CCK in Buenos Aires, collaborations with Ensemble Modern, scoring the award-winning documentary 'A1' and as well as a ballet for Nationaltheater Mannheim.  A special relationship has grown between Stefan Goldmann and Berlin's Berghain. DJing at the club since 2006, he also conceived the Elektroakustischer Salon nights, opening up the venue for experimental music, and writes a column for the Berghain program flyer since 2012. He has also published the book 'Presets' and has written extensively on the aesthetics of electronic music. Few other artists have expanded techno's formal range farther while simultaneously pushing the envelope of dance music.
