Born 1965 in Karl-Marx-Stadt he is part of an artist generation who works intensively in the transitional area between music, art and science. With a strong adherence to reductionism he leads his sound experiments into the field of electronic music creating his own code of signs, acoustics and visual symbols. NOTON is a label founded in 1994 by Carsten Nicolai as a small imprint becoming active in 1996 with the release of noto “spin” record. In the same year the collaboration with RasterMusic begun and by 1999 the two labels merged into Raster-Noton. By 2017 NOTON starts working independently releasing all back catalogue of Alva Noto and currently planning future releases. Diverse musical projects include remarkable collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ryoji Ikeda (cyclo), Blixa Bargeld or Mika Vainio. Nicolai toured extensively as Alva Noto through Europe, Asia, South America and the US. Among others, he performed at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Centre Pompidou in Paris and Tate Modern in London. Most recently Nicolai scored the music for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s newest film, 'The Revenant’ which has been nominated for a Golden Globe, BAFTA, Grammy and Critics Choice Award. His musical œuvre echoes in his work as a visual artist. Carsten Nicolai seeks to overcome the separation of the sensory perceptions of man by making scientific phenomenons like sound and light frequencies perceivable for both eyes and ears. His installations have a minimalistic aesthetic that by its elegance and consistency is highly intriguing. After his participation in important international exhibitions like documenta X and the 49th and 50th Venice Biennale, Nicolai’s works were shown worldwide in extensive solo and group exhibitions.Their RA profile lists Mute Records, Raster-Noton, Affin, Mille Plateaux and 4 more.Last at Neue Nationalgalerie in Aug 2025 · often with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Stephen O'Malley, J. „MO’ONG” SANTOSO PRIBADI AV w, none of them here that night

His long-standing relationship with the notorious Techno institution has formed the backdrop to his success, providing an invaluable platform that has allowed him to become one of the most in-demand DJ-producers of the current generation. Those who have witnessed him perform will note not only the diversity in his track selection, but also his ability to create a room rather than just play to it. Though intense and powerful, his DJ output reflects a certain kind of fervour, capturing an artistry and emotion that can often appear absent from the Techno genre. He also possesses a wonderful understanding of how to adapt his music to the circumstances, a competence that means he can be found at both large-scale festivals and small intimate club settings around the world. Much of his early career was marked by marathon sets – a signature that played a considerable role in nurturing his skills and reputation – but even the more compressed sets he shares today evidence an intricate narrative and sense of flow that defines him as a DJ. It was these inherent abilities that led him to compile the fabric 66 compilation in 2012, before winning the BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix of the Year award in 2015. Over recent years his focus has been on touring – but his early works, most of which were released via Ostgut Ton, have become landmarks in the imprint’s history. 2009’s “Dawning”, the first of his collaborations with Marcel Dettmann, kickstarted the label itself and remains a stand-out track in its discography. Other releases of particular note include “Subzero”, taken from his Before One EP, and the Compression Session EP (2010). For many, however, it is his album One (2009) that best captures Klock’s talents as a producer. Still today, this seminal record forms a reference point for all Techno long-players. His skills as a remixer have also seen him rework tracks by a wide variety of artists, including Kerri Chandler, Depeche Mode, Robert Hood and Kenny Larkin. Additionally, Klock also runs Klockworks, a label he founded in 2006 as a home for his more raw and minimal productions. The focus, however, has shifted over recent years, with the label becoming a medium for him to present his more diverse personal tastes and support developing talents. Trevino, DVS1 and Etapp Kyle have all released on the imprint during the earlier stages of their careers. The growth of the label has been aided by a series of showcases at various international locations, including London’s Village Underground, New York, Barcelona, Detroit and Berlin, with more on the horizon.Their RA profile lists BPitch, Ostgut Ton, Rekids, Memo and 6 more.Last at Berghain in Dec 2025 · often with Berghain, Säule, Budino, none of them here that night

the whole biography
Polygonia is a multidisciplinary music and art project by Munich-based artist Lindsey Wang. Drawing from a background in acoustic instruments and a strong interest in cultural diversity, she creates colourful electronic music enriched with complex sound design and intricate yet compelling rhythms. Her work is defined by a dynamic fusion of genres, resulting in a distinctive sound that moves beyond fixed categorisation. Elements of techno, bass music, breakbeat, house, electro, grey area, IDM and beyond intertwine throughout her productions. This genre-fluid approach is evident in releases such as her album Dream Horizons (2025) on Dekmantel and the Otro Mundo EP (2023) on Bambe, while nature continues to serve as a recurring source of inspiration. In both DJ and live sets, Polygonia explores a wide emotional spectrum, adapting her performances to time and atmosphere. Since 2023, She is holding a residency at Munich’s BLITZ club. Beyond her solo work, she co-founded the IO collective and label in 2018 and launched her own label QEONE in 2022. In 2021, she formed the electric jazz trio Lyder and continues to explore the intersection of electronic and jazz through her collaboration with drummer Simon Popp. In 2025, she also co-founded the audio software company DSP Dealer.Their RA profile lists Nous'klaer Audio, Midgar, Reclaim Your City, Lowless and 6 more.Recently at Berghain, OHM · often with Berghain, nd_baumecker, Amanda Mussi, none of them here that night
“Techno has always been about imagining the future and experiencing the excitement of change and discovery.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Techno has always been about imagining the future and experiencing the excitement of change and discovery. If anyone has lived up to this aspiration in recent years it would be Stefan Goldmann. Through every release and project he has brought a new edge to the table, with several of his tracks having served as genre-shifting blueprints – from his early reductionist works for the Classic and Perlon labels to Sleepy Hollow or Lunatic Fringe. Utilising an evolutionary approach which takes nothing for granted he is continuously infusing variation into the formal core of techno – from shifting meters to designing tuning systems to re-imagining the technological base of storing music. Radical yet playful innovation has consequently also become the criterion of Macro, the label he operates with Finn Johannsen. Stefan Goldmann performs regularly throughout Europe, Asia, the Americas and Australia. In addition he has expanded his artistic reach through a wide array of extraordinary projects outside of club culture, while maintaining an approach that remains essentially techno: investigating grid rhythm, sampling, vinyl culture or digitisation down to their cores. These encounters range from an intimate solo performance at Kyoto's iconic Honen-in Temple to performing the first ever electronic concert at Philharmonie Berlin's Grand Hall, in addition to curating a two-day festival for the eminent classical music institution. Commissions include the large-scale music theatre composition 'alif', site-specific concerts at LA's LACMA museum and CCK in Buenos Aires, collaborations with Ensemble Modern, scoring the award-winning documentary 'A1' and as well as a ballet for Nationaltheater Mannheim. A special relationship has grown between Stefan Goldmann and Berlin's Berghain. DJing at the club since 2006, he also conceived the Elektroakustischer Salon nights, opening up the venue for experimental music, and writes a column for the Berghain program flyer since 2012. He has also published the book 'Presets' and has written extensively on the aesthetics of electronic music. Few other artists have expanded techno's formal range farther while simultaneously pushing the envelope of dance music.Their RA profile lists Classic, Ovum Recordings, Cocoon Recordings, Perlon and 6 more.Recently at Philharmonie Berlin, Berghain · often with Berghain, Oracy, Tijana T, none of them here that night
