the whole biography
Martina Bertoni is an experimental cellist and composer whose work bridges the emotional and physical realms of sound, inviting listeners to explore the liminal spaces where perception, sound, and emotion intersect. Classically trained, Martina has developed a distinctive practice centered on electronic music, drones, synthesis, modern composition, and generative systems. Her compositions and performances expand and challenge perceptual relationships with control, spatiality, and emotional resonance. Martina’s creative process employs temporal and spatial proximities, utilising timelessness as a central compositional strategy. Through the articulation of sound-generated structures, her work investigates the relational and immersive potential of sound, fostering introspection and transformation. By crafting evocative emotional landscapes, she challenges normative listening paradigms and reimagines the experiential dimensions of space and sound. Following two self-released EPs in 2018 and 2019, Martina debuted her first full-length album, All the Ghosts are Gone (FALK, 2020). Her sophomore album, Music for Empty Flats (Karlrecords, 2021), received critical acclaim and was named one of A Closer Listen’s Top 10 Ambient Drone Albums of 2021. In 2023, she released Hypnagogia (Karlrecords), which garnered widespread praise for its immersive compositions. Her forthcoming album, Electroacoustic Works for Halldorophone, scheduled for release in February 2025 (Karlrecords), builds on her research into tuning systems and generative practices for the Halldorophone, developed during her residency at EMS Elektron Musik Studio in Stockholm. Beyond her artistic practice, Martina’s cello and original works have been featured in numerous soundtracks for films, series, and documentaries. She is also a Lecturer in Composition and Sound Design at the Catalyst Institute for Creative Arts and Technology in Berlin.Their RA profile lists FALK Records and Affine Dark Science.often with Abul Mogard, Rafael Anton Irisarri, Andrea Burelli, none of them here that night
