His long-standing relationship with the notorious Techno institution has formed the backdrop to his success, providing an invaluable platform that has allowed him to become one of the most in-demand DJ-producers of the current generation. Those who have witnessed him perform will note not only the diversity in his track selection, but also his ability to create a room rather than just play to it. Though intense and powerful, his DJ output reflects a certain kind of fervour, capturing an artistry and emotion that can often appear absent from the Techno genre. He also possesses a wonderful understanding of how to adapt his music to the circumstances, a competence that means he can be found at both large-scale festivals and small intimate club settings around the world. Much of his early career was marked by marathon sets – a signature that played a considerable role in nurturing his skills and reputation – but even the more compressed sets he shares today evidence an intricate narrative and sense of flow that defines him as a DJ. It was these inherent abilities that led him to compile the fabric 66 compilation in 2012, before winning the BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix of the Year award in 2015. Over recent years his focus has been on touring – but his early works, most of which were released via Ostgut Ton, have become landmarks in the imprint’s history. 2009’s “Dawning”, the first of his collaborations with Marcel Dettmann, kickstarted the label itself and remains a stand-out track in its discography. Other releases of particular note include “Subzero”, taken from his Before One EP, and the Compression Session EP (2010). For many, however, it is his album One (2009) that best captures Klock’s talents as a producer. Still today, this seminal record forms a reference point for all Techno long-players. His skills as a remixer have also seen him rework tracks by a wide variety of artists, including Kerri Chandler, Depeche Mode, Robert Hood and Kenny Larkin. Additionally, Klock also runs Klockworks, a label he founded in 2006 as a home for his more raw and minimal productions. The focus, however, has shifted over recent years, with the label becoming a medium for him to present his more diverse personal tastes and support developing talents. Trevino, DVS1 and Etapp Kyle have all released on the imprint during the earlier stages of their careers. The growth of the label has been aided by a series of showcases at various international locations, including London’s Village Underground, New York, Barcelona, Detroit and Berlin, with more on the horizon.Their RA profile lists BPitch, Ostgut Ton, Rekids, Memo and 6 more.Recently at Berghain, Philharmonie Berlin · often with Fadi Mohem, Budino, JakoJako, none of them here that night

Widely associated with Berlin and institutions Berghain and Hard Wax, Dettmann has remained true to his roots by consistently seeking to innovate electronic music, particularly in regards to integrating visual art and techno. Raised in the former GDR, Dettmann developed his passion for electronic music early, counting new wave, post-punk and industrial music as his strongest influences – long before discovering techno and eventually immersing himself in it. Since the early 90s he has been a fixture in Berlin as both an artist and DJ, becoming a resident at OstGut in 1999. He has also held a residency at OstGut's successor Berghain since its opening in 2004 until today. Dettmann’s productions for his own MDR imprint and Ostgut Ton, as well as his compilations and mixes for fabric, Music Man, !K7 and Dekmantel sit between contemporary techno and pre-techno, providing a unique aesthetic at once reduced and rough, emotional and unpredictable.Their RA profile lists Music Man Records, BPitch, Ostgut Ton, Rekids and 6 more.Last at Berghain in Mar · often with Steffi, Quelza, nd_baumecker, none of them here that night
“Born in East German Leipzig, raised in Brandenburg, Norman got bitten by the techno bug after the wall came down.”

Born in East German Leipzig, raised in Brandenburg, Norman got bitten by the techno bug after the wall came down. In 1994 he started to promote several events and launched his career as a DJ. At these parties, he got to know Marcel Fengler and Marcel Dettmann and literally became their mentor for all things techno. Marcel Dettmann eventually pitched him to Berghain’s management and he returned to DJing and became a resident instantaneously. Since then, he plays Berghain once a month, specialising in the almost forgotten art of warming up at the beginning of a night. In 2005 he also started to produce his own tracks. His maturity proved to be very beneficial in terms of his artistic vision, as he made up his mind about what he likes and what not a long time ago already. Unsurprisingly, his outings on Dettmann’s MDR label, as well as his track “Native Rhythm Electric” for Ostgut Ton left a deep impression with headstrong techno lovers. With his dusty funk, static hiss and the rich thump of his kick drums, he managed to get himself recognised as one of techno’s more unique auteurs. Norman Nodge cites Detroit techno (Jeff Mills, Rob Hood, 430 West), Chicago House (Relief, Dance Mania) and Techno (Luke Slater, Peacefrog, Mark Broom) as his most essential influences. Hence, it is not surprising that he fuses the old with the new and the soft with the tough when he plays out. “It is my goal as a DJ to make people dance without walking on trodden paths of recent trends. I want to sensitize dancers for unusual sounds, old and new.”Their RA profile lists Ostgut Ton, Marcel Dettmann Records, Octopus Music, Synewave and 6 more.often with Franziska Berns, Amanda Mussi, Elisa Bee, none of them here that night

Wise portrays a deep sense of knowledge and maturity, devising atmospheric soundscapes with a raw but modern touch, captivating the listener from beginning to end. His sets demonstrate this to full effect, consistently maintaining a powerful sonic trademark via a low end focused, yet intricate and enchanting selection. Indeed, the capacity to dip in between deeper realms of sound and rhythmic exploration aids the artists preference towards longer sets. Before discovering the world of electronic music, Wise came from a background of drum and percussion which was guided by his Iranian father, a former professional drummer. This influence plays a key part in shaping the foundation of techno that he crafts. Subsequently, exposure to Europe’s dancefloors further triggered his passion, allowing him to understand the importance of the interaction between the physicality of sound on the human body. Fast-forward to 2024, this notion gave birth to his label ‘Moving Pressure’. Conceptually, as the title already hints at, the imprint focuses on the capacity of sound to guide movement and emotion, to weave into the fabric of our physical being. Concretely, the first release features a 4 tracker by Wise himself and will proceed by showcasing his sonic vision through self and external releases. The artist’s 'quality over quantity’ mindset has seen him become a mainstay on influential labels such as Mote Evolver and his pure but passionate approach to music has given him the honour of gracing institutions such as Berghain and Bassiani and earned him a residency at the esteemed underground Eerste Communie parties hailing from The Netherlands. “Gabrielle Kwarteng’s journey continues to be one of passion, dedication and fate.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Gabrielle Kwarteng’s journey continues to be one of passion, dedication and fate. Born and raised in New York, Kwarteng has withstood shifting sands in dance music to represent a curatorial presence with a deep knowledge of music history, driven by a dedication to regenerating its culture. In an era of everything at once, Kwarteng is a DJ who weaves stories for the dancefloor that often look to the past, while always focusing on possible futures. In an era of sonic singularities, Kwarteng’s flexibility and curiosity is a virtue; her long-awaited debut at Dekmantel Festival in 2023 resulted in no less than three sets across the weekend, each possessing contrasting energies. Elsewhere London’s iconic Fabric have championed Kwarteng on multiple occasions, programming her into their prestigious 25th birthday celebrations alongside the likes of Ben UFO and Ricardo Villalobos. At Berghain, she has appeared with even greater frequency as part of some of the fabled club’s most crucial parties, including CSD, Silvester, as well as smoothly piloting seven-hour closing sets in Panorama Bar. Such reverberations have reached far beyond the club; FKA twigs extended a personal invite to soundtrack her 2024 Met Gala afterparty. Taking place at The Standard, Kwarteng played just a few blocks uptown from the Soho Grand ballroom, where she had once furtively begun her first DJ residency, less than a decade earlier. The roots of this keen musicality run deep. Born in Brooklyn to Ghanaian parents but raised in the Bronx, Kwarteng’s childhood was soundtracked by a mix of first-wave Highlife, Afrobeat and disco. Outside her own front door, in a thriving neighborhood of diverse American experiences, entire sounds and scenes expanded and exploded as pop-culture began to mutate in new ways, both online and off. Crossing to Manhattan for school, the tempo changed entirely as rock, hip hop and experimental music filled Kwarteng’s ears, accompanying her intense study. Juggling academia with the beat became part of life, and she was later presented with the Mixcloud Online Radio Award for Best Eclectic Show, broadcasting on then burgeoning online radio station, The Lot. An early and completely unexpected acknowledgement of an instinct for music that traversed genre expectations, it laid down the foundations for her later move and return to Europe, and a commitment to trusting her creative instincts. Here, Kwarteng has not only become a fixture in established, open-minded musical spaces everywhere from Berlin, London, Amsterdam and Paris, but is equally called upon to establish the energy of new ventures, such as Horst Club in Belgium. Her resplendent selections have made connections further still, on tour in Australia, South America and soon to include Asia. Listening and dancing to Kwarteng, whether in a cavernous rave hall, a sweat-soaked underground club or amid the temporary pleasures of a festival, is an experience that feels at once familiar but always energizing. Fluidly slipping through a mix of heady 80s and 90s US house, disco interpretations that traverse diaspora and eras, and the futurist pulse of physical, emotive techno, Kwarteng expertly matches the requisite energy of contemporary queer rave culture. This understanding led to an invitation to make a storied Glastonbury festival debut at the legendary Block 9, the deepest pleasure center within the nocturnal NYC Downlow, before returning in 2024 for a back-to-back set with Shanti Celeste, this time on the wider scale of the Silver Hayes stage. Wherever she performs, Kwarteng’s expertise serves to not only continue the championing of Black American genres such as house, techno and disco, but equally, to explore the continuum of global dance music as a whole. Having laid the foundations for a unique musical journey, it’s a level of respect that’s tangible on any dancefloor. In these increasingly sacred spaces, Gabrielle Kwarteng’s personal passion translates into collective ecstasy. “I started out in a bar called Drama in Kreuzberg, which has been an important hang out for the scene and one of the first bars ever to feature its own djs at the weekend.”

I started out in a bar called Drama in Kreuzberg, which has been an important hang out for the scene and one of the first bars ever to feature its own djs at the weekend. The Drama has been one of the few locations featuring house music, instead of techno dominating all the other clubs and bars at that time. I used to play a lot of soulful vocal house and quickly became a resident at Globus/Tresor, as well as at the gay Saturdays at Café Moskau. „My motivation is and has been a mixture of fun and communication. Verbally as well as non-verbally. I love to create and play with different moods and atmospheres. I’m still fascinated by the fact that music can release a huge amount of energy and how music creates fun, jollying anyone along without any reason or principle. Music and bass in particular can make people happy!“ Since 1997, when I have been a resident at Globus/Tresor, I gradually opened up stylistically and didn’t feel the need anymore to go along the lines of the techno and house division. Since 2001 I regularly played at the gay/lesbian „Dance with the Aliens“ parties at the old OstGut and consequently at the end of 2004 I became a resident at the new Panorama Bar / Berghain. In the meantime I developed a varied style ranging from new and classic House to Techno including a lot of Disco, Afrobeats..... It is fundamental to my work as a DJ that I manage to let the music, the crowd and myself run freely. I have to turn off my head and go with the flow. This always is the challenge and if it works it is big fun. The crowd and i have to get kind of cosy with each other. And if I manage to build my set up and down, to go to lots of different places, it is perfect!Their RA profile lists Rabid Records, Diamonds & Pearls, Ostgut Ton, Hotflush Recordings and 1 more.Recently at Berghain, Kaos Berlin · often with Lakuti, Fadi Mohem, MARRØN, none of them here that night
“Growing up in Munich, the talented, energetic and dedicated artist quickly found her feet in music.”

Growing up in Munich, the talented, energetic and dedicated artist quickly found her feet in music. Her career kick-started in the late 90s thanks to a wave of early hit singles, and she soon began to tour as a DJ, discovering a real passion for life in front of the crowd. Inspired by the warm and analog tracks of the 80s and 90s, her DJ sets combine this sound with modern a in an exciting fusion, layered with spontaneous live vocals adding a unique third dimension. With a careful mixture of peaks and also moments of reduction, she commands attention in her hybrid DJ / Live performances. Her song-writing and production projects continued to grace the charts and hold her in great respect in the scene. Her full length album, 'Twisted Mind', was released in 2008 on Rough Trade, co-produced with Eye- Q Records' Steve B-Zet; a wonderfully musical cross-over album that found its way into Film and TV airplay. The album was a positive blend of electro-pop, a project which saw Virginia touring live on stage with a 5-piece band. Viriginia co-wrote a wealth of productions and guest appearances, alongside the likes of Steve Bug, Butch, Abe Duque and most recently with Panorama Bar resident Steffi, on her album 'Yours & Mine'. Beginning with a vocal-led collaboration, 'Reasons', on Jus Ed's acclaimed label Underground Quality in Oct 2010, they have since gone on to produce some very exciting results. Steffi's album focuses two tracks around Virginia's vocals which she feels really reflect her true musical direction - the tracks 'Yours', a rousing hit in the making, and the touching 'You Own My Mind' (both released on Berlin's Ostgut Ton in Feb 2011). Virginia's rich, colourful and vibrant voice has brought a golden touch to her widespread and highly respected release catalogue, and she continues to collaborate with some of electronic music's key players. Always developing her own production skills, she released her first solo production "Loch& Hill" on Ostgut Ton, 8th of april 2013. Another Ep for Ostgut Ton was released september 2014. And her first studio album "Fierce For The Night" was just released in may 2016.Their RA profile lists Poker Flat Recordings, Ostgut Ton, Underground Quality, Abe Duque Records and 6 more.Last at Berghain in Mar · often with Steffi, Quelza, Kikelomo, none of them here that night

Alan Abrahams AKA Portable AKA Bodycode has been in motion his whole life—growing up in South Africa, coming of age in London, decamping to Lisbon and finally settling in Berlin—and his deeply syncopated brand of electronic dance music has evolved with every step of the journey. His formative years were spent in an impoverished Cape Town township ironically tagged “Beverly Hills”, and to the backbeat of the first wave of Chicago house records he emerged out of the ruins of a post-apartheid South Africa. Inspired musically, yet frustrated geographically, he relocated to London in 1997. In London, Abrahams began recording as Portable, the experimental, atmospheric project that acts a living link between the indigenous sounds of his youth, and those first records whose futuristic aesthetic broadened his horizons. He founded the Süd Electronic label with his partner Lerato and released a string of 12" releases. A succession of full-length albums followed - Cycling and Futuristic Experiments #005 on Background, Version on ~scape records, and the Powers of Ten for Süd Electronic in 2007. A rich and expansive record, Powers of Ten further explored his African heritage through a new lexicon of sonic influences, acquired from his time living in Portugal. Upon moving to Lisbon, Abrahams conceived of Bodycode, a more dancefloor-centric project that complements Portable’s headier textures with a more body-moving aesthetic. As Bodycode, Abrahams harnesses his desire to “unlock the psyche via the body,” layering tech-funk with wisps of melody, heady effects, and a liberal wash of otherworldly vocal samples. Somewhere between the beats for the body and melody for the soul, Abrahams believes, lies the Bodycode. The result was Bodycode’s first full-length, The Conservation of Electric Charge, a whirlwind of percussive, multi-layered techno released on Spectral Sound in 2006. After a three-year absence, Abrahams resurrected the moniker for second Spectral full-length, 2009’s Immune, an intricately textured album of vocal-laced house. “I just felt it a good time for a warm, nurturing aesthetic,” says Abrahams of Bodycode’s shift in tone, “We need that right now.”Their RA profile lists Perlon, Musik Krause, Circus Company, LMD and 4 more.often with livwutang, Bobolino Rosso, CCL, none of them here that night
