Bass heavy, hard-pushing sounds that focus on keeping dancers sweating and smiling are Ubax’s goals when she plays. Born and raised in London, Ubax grew up surrounded by the sounds of Jungle, Drum and Bass, UK garage, Grime and Somali music. But it wasn’t until she moved to Berlin that a mixture of nostalgia and longing to hear more bass music motivated her to get behind the decks. A graduate from the fourth round of the Femme Bass Mafia mentorship programme. Ubax is inspired by the sounds of of the African diaspora, SWANA, Latin America and of course the UK. These diverse sonic influences manifest in her sets, building a bridge between old skool tunes and new sounds.
