their own biography
the whole biography
Launching to prominence out of Herrensauna's infamous underground parties, CEM has forged a singular path as an fierce club DJ unafraid of turning the dancefloor moody. CEM's unique brand of emotive hysteria was forged in Herrensauna's hedonistic Berlin furnace in the last few years, and as one of the party's three core members, he has been at the heart of the operations since its inception. With the party attracting more and more attention for its critical contribution to Berlin's queer community, as well as their raw italo-metal aesthetic, the opportunity came to move into Tresor, where it has cemented its place as a unique addition to Berlin's nocturnal topography. CEM's role in all this is twofold—firstly, as curator of the party's unique mix of frenetic DJs and industrial-edged live performances; and secondly, as one of the resident DJs. The sheer pace of Herrensauna's preferred grade of techno is offset by his enigmatic presence and selection. It's a crucial edge of the party, and it's rightfully brought CEM to the world's attention. With a preference for UK-tweaked tracks from across the contemporary milieu of harder club works, nor with a fear of breakbeats or sullen moments, he's a rare species of DJ that seeds intensity in even the most hesitant of movers. And with a background in queer club culture going back a decade to his hometown of Vienna—side-by-side with a punk upbringing—CEM's well versed in the essential metrics of unrelenting after dark commotion.Recently at KREUZWERK, Kraftwerk Berlin, MUENZE · often with MCMLXXXV, Juliana Huxtable, Luigi Di Venere, none of them here on Friday

From running a label and events series, to curating and designing most of his own visual content, his ethos has always been DIY with a strong focus on quality. He has numerous solo EPs and singles under his belt on a diversity of labels such as Hardgroove, Symbolism, AWRY and Sungate, some of which have included an equally diverse array of remixes from the likes of Mark Broom, Luke Hess, Tripeo, Deniro and more. However, Deano’s Knowledge Imprint remains the primary outlet for his own productions, and over the years it has also garnered a reputation for putting out music from some of the scene’s most exciting young artists from around the world. In conjunction with this, he has hosted and debuted many of these artists for events in his country while at the same time also played host to some key veterans. Deano is an official resident of Cape Town’s Mødular Club (the venue where he often runs his own nights) and makes regular appearances at Johannesburg’s And Club for long-standing techno organization TOY TOY. He has become known for his selection that can span from house to techno and everything in between and has therefore played at a wide range of Cape Town’s most well known festivals and events. As one of the most iconic artists of her generation, Ellen Allien embodies the core ethos of techno: a visionary who looks to the future for inspiration, carving out her own niche and presiding over an empire that has infused techno, rave, and dance music culture with her unique DNA. Ellen Allien’s journey through the years is a blueprint for a healthy underground community and grounded career in music. Her playful mind and openness to sharing knowledge, imbues her art with an energy and inspiration that’s been highly influential to the subculture across art, design and fashion in her native Berlin. Ellen’s eternally creative mind has led to the production of ten albums, to join her extensive back catalogue of singles, EPs and remix work for seminal labels like Warp and Mute. Most recently she’s collaborated with Italian band Ash Code to bring together dark wave and techno in a seamless dancefloor marriage, remixed Lebanon Hannover and Rosa Anschütz, as well as contributing tracks to compilations from Gegen and Serendeepity. In 2023 she celebrated the 20th Anniversary of her seminal album ‘Stadtkind’, her most recent album AurAA delivered emotional techno resonating far beyond the dancefloor. A dynamic selector who prides herself on her extensive knowledge of music and dance floors, she’s travelled the globe as a DJ playing at every major club on the circuit, and commanding the big stages at festivals from Europe to South America. Ellen runs her days long ‘We Are Not Alone’ raves at RSO in her beloved hometown Berlin, bringing the party worldwide as UFO Rave, and she hosts in-store record shop gigs as Vinylism. In her role as head of BPitch, and UFO Inc., Ellen channels her ceaseless passion for digging into A&R, seeking out and nurturing new talent, alongside established artists and friends. She has signed new artists to her labels, including German trans-media artist Rosa Anschütz, Dutch electronic producer extraordinaire Dollkraut/DJ Europarking, and supports the growth of future talents like Métaraph and Shaleen through the booking agency. Steering the label to become one of the most important platforms for underground electronica. BPitch operates in a league of all its own, influencing the scene at home, but with a global reach. Ellen Allien’s constant forward focus led to the conception of a brand new record label, UFO Inc. in 2018; as an incubator for rough, ravey, raw techno – providing an additional space for Ellen to release her tougher productions, purely for the dancefloor. 2020-22 presented an extremely difficult situation for Ellen and the rest of the global electronic music community as clubs and festivals were shut down. Unable to tour, she conceived the hugely successful Balcony Streaming sessions, hosted from her home in Berlin. The livestreams allowed her to continue DJing and engaging with her fanbase, while also supporting music from a wide range of artists, new and old. During this time, she channeled her curatorial experience into an expansive three-part (expanded to six in 2023) compilation series. Named after her We Are Not Alone parties, the collection comprised tracks from artists that embody the ethos; club music with a rugged aesthetic and an unapologetic dancefloor focus. Volumes four-six were released together with a film and installation as AFTER DARK with Ellen’s longtime collaborator the director/photographer Stini Roehrs.AFTER DARK exhibition premiered at the Hamburger Bahnhof modern art museum in Berlin in July, with a new soundtrack by Ellen.Their RA profile lists fabric Records, Mute Records, Warp Records, Spectral Sound and 6 more.Recently at RSO.BERLIN, Tempelhof Airport, Komplex Berlin · often with Spekki Webu, OLHA, Carmen Electro, none of them here on Friday

Hailing from New York, he was seduced by techno when Jeff Mills held residency (as well as his own first) at Limelight in the early 90s. Producing from the mid-90s onward, he released his first 12"s on Damon Wild's Synewave and his own Infrastructure imprint. A chance meeting in 1996 brought him together with Regis (Karl O'Connor). The two worked as Portion Reform, releasing uncompromising music on Downwards, making him the only non-Birmingham producer to appear on the label. He later moved to Berlin in 2007, still working with Regis, and now Silent Servant (Juan Mendez), putting his focus on Sandwell District. Since, the label come collective, skyrocketed into cult status - decentralizing the artist ego, blurring the lines between the artist, label and dj; re-arranging the DNA of modern dance music.Their RA profile lists Ostgut Ton, Tresor, Droid Recordings, Synewave and 6 more.Recently at Tresor / Globus, Spreefeld Bootshaus, RSO.BERLIN · often with TRESOR, GLOBUS, Sanna Mun, none of them here on Friday

As the resident DJ of Grounded Theory, one of its founders, curator of its celebrated events, and a DJ of worldwide renown for ability and tastes, Henning Baer forged his enviable résumé with his own hands. Since its beginning in 2009, Grounded Theory has grown from a bracing new idea in Berlin techno to an institution of artistic nightlife both at its home and around the continent. Directed with acute vision and unerring judgment, its philosophy extracted from Henning’s long years at the front lines of electronic music, it remains diverse and cutting edge. Mirroring Henning Baer's DJ sets, Grounded Theory combines music from different eras and areas, remaining rooted in techno while shedding light on sounds less frequently heard on Berlin dance floors: forward UK music, experimental electronics, and underground techno names from across the globe, both new and established. Henning Baer is asserting greater independence with innovative new production styles on a recent EP for Taanstaafl Planets. The launch of his own MANHIGH imprint buttresses the foundation of his own work, to be built up alongside a select few whose productions meet the curatorial acumen of one of techno’s finest ears. After esteemed releases on Sonic Groove, K209 and elsewhere, fans worldwide have much to look forward to from a label whose standards match those of Grounded Theory. Already a respected artist, Henning’s diligence has transported him from the counter to the shelves of Hardwax and from the floor to the booth of Berghain in regular appearances. Now he is building further upon these impressive accomplishments, profoundly shaping contemporary techno from recent memory into the foreseeable future.Their RA profile lists Sonic Groove, NonPlus+, K209, Non Series and 5 more.Recently at RSO.BERLIN, Else · often with Olivia Mendez, Alarico, Akua, none of them here on Friday

There’s an ineffable feeling that one has after a Jesse G set, often evidenced by an upward turning of a lip corner, a child-like sense of discovering something new, or a renewed understanding of the word “fun.” Proficient at working a crowd, Jesse G wants you to feel whatever you want to feel during her sets, as long as it’s something. Known for her energetic, genre-spanning sets that surprise and delight crowds, the Berlin-based Techno DJ’s big sound is a playful wide range medley of deep, metallic and trippy to groovy, jacking, percussive sounding Techno with diverse rhythms and UK bass influence. Growing up in Wiesbaden, Germany as a child of Filipino and Sicilian immigrants, Jesse found music to be a lingua franca that connected her with her surroundings. Her early introduction to music was through R&B, Italo Pop, and Rap and her deep curiosity and engagement with music in all its forms still guides her today. Describing DJing in her words as „a way to express how she hears the world“, her exhilarating sets borrow from a diverse range of sonic spaces and one can often detect influences from different genres such as bass music, breakbeat, house, reggaeton and dancehall alongside her meticulous and expansive feel for varied techno grooves and rhythms. Her distinctive sound is also informed by an encyclopedic understanding of electronic music and her craft honed over her nearly six years as an integral member of the staff at the hallowed Berlin record store, Hard Wax. In addition to holding down residencies at RSO Berlin and Tresor, she has brought her sound to venues such as De School, Berghain, Open Ground, and Blitz Club; and graced festivals including ADE Het Weekend and Nachtiville.Recently at OHM, Kater, RSO.BERLIN · often with Berghain, NORA (BR), Sept, none of them here on Friday

With an unparalleled presence, style, and demeanor in the underground, DJ, producer and label head Xiorro is renowned for igniting revelry. Having begun his artistry in 2017 in Brooklyn’s then-vibrant underground, Xiorro’s current status as a Berlin-based DJ is illuminated by his impactful run in Brooklyn with ALKHEMY & the beloved warehouse and off-site rave series, The Black Hole, which he both co-founded. Now a fixture in Berlin’s fervent club scene, Xiorro has transitioned seamlessly into a resident role at RSO where he frequents regularly, picking up where he left off at with his residency when the club was known as Griessmuehle and located in Neukölln. Fueled by a relentless and unyielding dedication to the craft, Xiorro has forged a style which blends endurance with mixing prowess and a meticulous selection. For a secret that almost feels like a clandestine, the dance floor needs not to worry when in the hands of Xiorro, as he has solidified himself as a trusted armament of RSO where he’s recognized for his extended sets during the club’s renown club night weekenders. His ability to play long sets and adapt to the style of the night elevates him to a league of his own. Whether guiding the audience through an intimate, incorporeal experience or powering the dance floor with moving fervency, Xiorro’s versatility and adaptability shines through as an exquisite fusion of artistic finesse together with his Puerto Rican heritage. Moreover, what distinguishes Xiorro apart from others is not only his self-taught musical ear for composing otherworldly vibrations but also his innate sense of drive and groove. The way that Xiorro understands how groovy rhythms succumb to the drive and revel in the intensity of the increased tempo, makes him a luminary leaving an indelible mark in the hearts of listeners. The inception of Xiorro’s Whirlwind Trax label in 2019 stands as an attestation to his commitment to interpreting techno through his own lenses. With releases that showcase both Xiorro’s own work as well as the work of label affiliates, Whirlwind Trax holds a catalogue of tracks that are sure to set a soundsystem ablaze. In tandem with a mixture of a desire to create a memorable experience with an affinity for the sheer excitement of techno, Xiorro now works on the continuance of The Black Hole now evolving into the ULTRANOVA club night series at RSO in 2024. Creating a community for the outcast of the outcasts, Xiorro is now focused on cultivating his own community within the Berlin ecosystem through his newly inaugurated night.Their RA profile lists Whirlwind Trax.Recently at RSO.BERLIN, OXI, Latitude Record Store · often with Shaleen, Grace Dahl, Disguised, none of them here on Friday

Olympe4000 leads a new rave generation for whom the dancefloor is above all an open space where identities and music mix. It's always tempting to define a DJ by the tracks played. With Olympe4000, however, this approach seems limited, given her commitment to break down barriers between styles. In her sets, furious rhythms, unstoppable bass and techno breakbeats intersect. Behind her turntables, musical genres mingle. This eclecticism can be explained by the diversity of the venues where she usually plays, from raves to cult clubs, from France to the rest of the world. At the same time, Olympe4000 produces powerful electronic tracks that she likes to put into perspective with the issues shaking our contemporary societies. In June 2024, she released the split EP Hack Me I'm Famous, in collaboration with DJ Physical. On the 5 tracks that make it up, the two artists make us question our relationship with technology and our fundamental desire to exist in an ever-changing world. And because she likes to do things her own way, the producer releases these projects on her own record label, a laboratory created for the occasion, Adrenaline Quality, which sums up as much her militant state of mind as her desire to explore the rave spectrum. With its focus on unbridled, hybrid music, this structure is far from limited to Olympe4000’s music. On the contrary, its purpose is to amplify the projects of emerging artists, but also to offer music to “people who work and commute every day while scrolling through their phone, who just need to have sound in their ears and to party intensely on weekends to forget themselves”. Thought of as a complete creative platform, the label has already released EPs by Rehcorb or Lüma-G & piaconcept, as well as a various with Beats by girlz, which encourages women, non-binary and trans people to get involved in music production by organizing CAM training workshops. Above all, Adrenaline Quality strives to develop a mutant, activist rave aesthetic, in the image of its creator.Their RA profile lists Adrenaline Quality Records.Recently at OXI, OST, RSO.BERLIN · often with Florian Picasso, none of them here on Friday
