goat (jp)
Formed as a quartet in 2013 by Koshiro Hino, goat’s original lineup consisted of guitar, saxophone, bass and drums. Today’s evolution offers a quintet that fluidly switches instruments depending on the song.
Disregarding traditional musical forms their melodies focus on muted sounds and harmonics from outside of the 12-tone scale. Their minimalist compositions are an exercise in persistent repetition, filled with contradictions - complex yet simple, mechanical yet sensual - operating in an almost trance-like state in their performances.
goat released their third album, Joy in Fear from Koshiro Hino's own imprint NAKID in 2023. Following the 2025 release of Without References / Cindy Van Acker, a collection of compositions created for contemporary dance, the Paris-based label Latency is set to release Without References (Variations) in 2026, featuring remixes by Ricardo Villalobos.

their own biography
the whole biography
Goat, previously comprised of guitar, bass, drums and saxophone, create music unlike many of the rock bands. In their percussive songs, they mute the melodic instruments to reinforce the beat, and make frequent use of harmonics played outside the twelve-tone. After going through a reshape in early 2017 with a new lineup, they have moved on to build compositions that explore rhythmic aspect even further, centering on intertwining patterns of repetitive rhythms. So far, they have released two albums from the label HEADZ; their debut album “NEW GAMES” in 2013, and second album “Rhythm & Sound” in 2015.Their RA profile lists HEADZ.Recently at Hošek Contemporary · often with @Ariel Schlichter, @Comunidad Sikuris Berlin, @Diane Barbe, none of them here on Wednesday
