Who they are
“Cultural Expressions from the capitalistic influenced world got mostly banned.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Cultural Expressions from the capitalistic influenced world got mostly banned. Lots of Records were rare and often had to be smuggled in. Listing with friends a Radioshow or watching TV from western sector of Berlin became always risky event. The Mauerfall 89 changed that conditions totally. Openminded and touched by the common liberate feeling of the early nineties, able to digging records free and ready listing to all that unknown music out there, he started buying and collecting records, tapes and discs. Around 1994 ,with his friends he started a club in Beeskow in an abandoned warehouse called „Treibstoff“. Guys like Norman Nodge, Andre Lodemann, Sammy Dee, Tom Clark played there. 16 years old Franky got his first regular playing experiences as Dj in Frankfurt/ Oder in a club called „Kulturfabrik“ . The Residency „Yaburizuguri“ was set once a month and 500 people all subcultures were dancing to the eclectic sets mixing House, Drum & Bass, Trip Hop, Jazz, Hip Hop and Rock music to a whole journey. 1999 he moved to Berlin for studying Cultural Anthropology, Sociology and Politics at Humboldt University and became luckily friends with people like Chica Paula, Dandy Jack, Villalobos, Zip, Sammy Dee, Max Lodebauer and Michel Grinser. Charing the same passion for all kinds of music they asked him to play at their Private Parties, Birthdays and Afterhours. In the surrounding of Berlin clubs like WMF, Old Panoramabar producing electronic music became more and more his interest. Together with Daniel Ramm they founded the Projekt Pikaya in 2001. Four years later they released their first production. During the Fusion Summer Festival 2005 Franky played their song 'Grüne Raufaser' to Luciano who liked it a great deal and released him in September 2006 on Cadenza Label. Since April 2006 Daniel and Franky have worked as live act in clubs all over Europe. Pikaya live acts became well known in short time and gave them the opportunity to play gigs in front of thousands of people at DC 10, Privileg, Space, Panorama Bar, Tenax, Cocorico, Fusion Festival (2009 / 2011)… Franky’s passion of DJ ing music in long sessions was never out of his focus. 2006, luckily Franky found his creative home base in Gregor Krämers „Club der Visionäre“ and established here the Residencie called „Karawane“, where DJ s and Musicans like Ion Ludwig, De Walta, Luca Torre, Edward, Konstantin, Rene Audriard, Adil Hiani, Alex & Digby, Bella Sarris, NSI, Andre Lodemann, Roman Flügel, got invited to play their first session in this special and unique institution of berlin electronic dance music scene. Among bigger events like O2 Parties (2008), Berlin Beats and Boots, Thaibreak (2010), Rave on Snow (2010) - Franky Greiner played over the years in almost every location of Berlin s underground nightlife like Tresor, WMF,103, Anita Berber, Bar 25, Chalet, Kater Holzig & Blau, Wilde Renate, Horst Kreuzberg, Watergate, Weekend, Griessmühle, Farbfernseher, Paloma Bar, GoldenGate, Suicide Circus, Bar Tausend, HRD Bar, San Remo, Pfefferbank, Cookies, Used to play often all night long session he is able to accompanies evening jazz events that end up in dancing parties with Housemusik. One good example was his DJ live supporting of Mark Scheibe's Orchestra in the Admiralspalast Berlin (2011). 2012 he took a little break from clublive, finishing his Magister Studium at Humboldt University. Inspired by analyzing culture from the sonic and technology perspective - he wrote his examen about „Elektronische Musik als Akustikdesign.“ Updated with new inspiration and knowledge - different new projects poped up. All to do with sound. 2013 he got the chance to work for Ralf Kroner the founder of DD Distribution as Artistconsulting and for Arturia as Sounddesigner. Nowadays Franky Greiner is still Dj ing and Producing music under the credo that sound is a social thing, and a ton says more than thousand words….Their RA profile lists Music For Freaks, Perlon, Cadenza Records, raum...musik and 6 more.Recently at Sonnenraum, Kater, Golden Gate · often with Vero Standke, Johnny D, Hagel, none of them here that night
“Janina is a Berlin mainstay.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Janina is a Berlin mainstay. She is one of those rare artists who became a household name by the power of her sheer will and talent. An intuitive house and techno DJ who’s clocked up two decades behind the decks, Berlin born and based Janina brims with as much enthusiasm today as she did when she got her start at Club Der Visionäre in 2004. That start became a residency, and it’d be the first of several notable club postings that Janina has intermixed with a stacked, city-vaulting gig schedule. In 2024 she continues her long-standing Tresor residency, and she’s set for an exhilarating new chapter with the launch of a record label, the release of her debut productions and hosting for the first time her own events in Ibiza. Berlin’s enigmatic scene of the early noughties was Janina’s entry point to clubbing. A teenager at the turn of the Millenium, formal education became background noise when she discovered Tresor, and more importantly, those infamous BeatStreet parties. At the core of these daytime sessions were Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos, Cassy and Magda, and they swiftly stepped in with the teachings that would feed Janina’s eventual vocation. “This time was one of the most beautiful things to happen in my life. I wouldn’t be where I am now without these parties. It was all about the music and nothing else. You completely lost your sense of time and I became addicted to this way of living - people coming together for the same purpose and creating this unique energy.” What’s immediately apparent with Janina is her deep connection to her records. Collecting vinyl since she was 15, with an illuminative, taste-broadening stretch at DNS Records accelerating her passion for it, she now sits on a stack of over 10,000. We’re long into the click-keen digital age, but Janina still favours and prioritises in store digging, spending hours flipping through records and weaving through the decades. Avid record digging has certainly benefited Janina when it comes to having ample ammo for her many residencies. From holding a spot at Club Der Visionäre for the best part of a decade, she moved to Moscow in 2013 and became part of the fabric of its thriving techno scene with a weekly slot at Monasterio, playing alongside Ben Klock, Robert Hood, Chris Liebing, DVS1, Marcel Dettmann, and Kenny Larkin, among others. “The Moscow move is easily one of the best decisions that I’ve made for personal growth and progressing as a DJ. It was the first time I’d lived away from home. It reminded me of Berlin in the early 2000s.” A move to Ibiza brought a residency at Sankeys for the Unusual Suspects crew which she’d hold down for three fulfilling seasons. Tresor was next to tap her, with Janina being billed alongside Joey Beltram, James Ruskin, The Advent and Robert Hood, as well as being offered to host her own nights on the Globus floor which had her embrace house, inviting DJs like Fumiya Tanaka, Cassy, Thomas Melchior, Troy Pierce and Sammy Dee. London then came calling, with a savvy move to the city quickly landing her a residency at E1 which she’d run alongside Tresor. E1 would be another outlet for her techno kicks, with line-ups also featuring Juan Atkins, Scuba, Ellen Allien and Function. It’s an addiction to the emotional effects of music and the togetherness within club culture that spur Janina. A gifted selector, her trajectory is and always has been ego-free, putting the music way above anything else. From within the walls of Berghain, Panorama Bar, Space Ibiza, Tresor, Club Der Visionäre, Ibiza Underground, DC10, REX, Culture Box, Hoppetosse and any other hallowed clubs that she’s played, she simply seeks to create what was seen at the parties that soundtracked her youth. In 2024, Janina enters a new phase. Willing to improve the electronic landscape, she’ll launch her Triplevisions showcase for the first season in Ibiza and hosting her own events. Busy mastering her sound, the process has involved an intensive production and live performance course at Mathew Johnson’s production school Freedom Engine Academy. The label will also be a home for new talent, with her being especially keen to throw her years of experience into nurturing emerging artists. While she plays across both genres, within any set she proficiently sticks to just one, depending on the booking. “I’ve always loved to play house and techno. When I play house, I like to stay in that flow, that feeling, the tempo…and the same applies for techno.”Recently at Club der Visionaere, Tresor / Globus, Sonnenraum · often with Main Running Order, Lenny Mailleau, RAHA, none of them here that night
