Pursuing a contemporary and propulsive style of techno, his sets balance surgical focus with unvarnished expression - alluring loops stacked in crisp layers, brooding inescapable intensity, and a near-erotic tension that rises without ever surrendering its grip, leaving the room drenched in sweat and suspended in melancholic euphoria. Yonti made his debut at Berghain’s legendary SNAX party at just 23 and soon became a regular at the institution. Jacob Meehan is a Chicago-raised, Berlin-based DJ, producer, and cultural curator whose sound blends the soulful groove of American house with the untamed edge of Berlin. Rooted in Chicago’s legacy, from WLUW 88.7FM to Gramaphone Records to Smart Bar, his style channels the lessons of Derrick Carter, Frankie Knuckles, and Michael Serafini into playful sets that move between house, techno, disco, and ambient. Since relocating to Berlin in 2016, Meehan has become a vital figure in the city’s queer nightlife as co-curator of Buttons and WHOLE Festival, shaping spaces where curiosity and community collide. Alongside the dance floor, he explores ambient music as a resident at KWIA listening bar and through yoga nidra sessions that expand his relationship with sound into the wellness realm. Meehan also curates the ambient stage at WHOLE. His productions resonate eclectic energy: “Hier” (Major Records) introduced his voice as a producer, while “Old Reliable” — features archival gay porn audio from Chicago’s Bijou Theater — landed on a Nervous Records compilation curated by The Carry Nation. Recent studio work includes a collaboration with NYC’s Physical Therapy, with more releases around the corner. This autumn and winter, Meehan is deep in the studio, working on a wave of new music set to define his next chapter. The Skudge universe has come a long way from the anonymous and humble beginnings to world-wide recognition through the labels Skudge Records, Skudge Presents and Skudge White. Right from the start, the main output has been on Skudge’s own label. This resulted in a Berghain live set right after the first release of Skudge Records. A steady string of vinyl releases followed, with remix EP’s in conjunction of their own work. Their unique take on music also produced EP’s on Dekmantel and Indigo Area as well as remixes on a wide array of talented artists such as Donato Dozzy, Anthony Shake“ Shakir, Instra:mental, Ben Sims, among others. The fine sense of loops, detail and taste have reached people for almost a decade.
