An open call on the infrastructure of care in nightlife
Club Care is Overflow’s new research programme exploring what nightlife environments, communities and organisations need to provide in order to support care, access and sustainable participation without flattening the intensity, pleasure or cultural freedom that make nightlife meaningful.
Rather than focusing only on what individuals should do to stay safe, regulate themselves or recover better, we want to look at the wider ecology around the night: the sensory environment, bodily and material needs, social relationships, organisational structures, labour, transitions, and the informal forms of peer care that already help people participate.
The aim is not to replace harm reduction, awareness or accessibility work, but to understand how these existing forms of care connect, where responsibility currently sits, and where it falls through the cracks.
Importantly, we do not see care as the opposite of intensity. Good infrastructures of care may be part of what allows people to participate more fully in nightlife’s positive potential: pleasure, release, belonging, collective experience and meaningful intensity, while still having the agency and support to step back, recover and re-enter when needed.
As a first phase, we are speaking with a small mix of ravers, artists, promoters, venue teams, awareness and harm-reduction practitioners, and others working across Berlin nightlife. We want to understand where care already works, where it is missing, how people move between intensity and rest, and what nightlife organisations should or should not reasonably be responsible for.
These interviews will help shape a wider public survey and, ultimately, an Infrastructure of Care for Nightlife: a scene-literate framework for clubs, promoters, collectives and cultural organisations to think about how people can participate fully, feel supported and sustain their relationship with nightlife over time.

Later living in Bristol she immersed herself in the music culture exploring drum and bass, dubstep and house. It was here she gained a passion for DJing which evolved over the next 10 years. You can see these influences in her music selection, blending jungly, breaks and soulful vocals in her mixes. She is also a wellness professional teaching spin, yoga and meditation. Most recently she has been able to explore her love for ambient music with the mixes she is creating for her yoga and meditation classes.Recently at YAAM Berlin, Ikii, Block1 · often with DJ Chromz, DJ Stelze, Alicia (UK), none of them here that night
