Cosmo Vitelli is a French DJ, producer and label head based in Berlin, whose musical world stretches across post-punk, krautrock, leftfield electronics and club music. Emerging from Paris in the late 1990s, he developed a distinctive approach shaped as much by underground rock as by dancefloor culture, later founding I’m a Cliché as an outlet for adventurous and uncompromising electronic music. Across his productions, edits, DJ sets and curatorial work, Cosmo Vitelli has built a career around restless exploration and a sharp instinct for sounds that sit just outside the obvious. On Friday, October 16th, SELF.CONTROL. returns with Cosmo Vitelli, CYRK live, Moderna and more.

Who they are
“Cosmo Vitelli hasn’t slept since 1973.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Cosmo Vitelli hasn’t slept since 1973. Instead, he’s replaced slumber with the tireless exploration of dance music, sharing his finds as an accomplished DJ and label manager but also as an esteemed producer, with heaps of records, remixes and edits under his belt. After spending his childhood between West Africa and Central France, a young Cosmo Vitelli moves to Paris in the early 90s. More indie kid than clubber, closer to rock, post-punk, and krautrock than techno, he plays guitar in various rock bands until he figures out he’s having more fun fiddling with a 4-track recorder and a sampler than with guitars. He releases his first in 1998 on Etienne de Crécy’s Solid, followed by a string of EPs and remixes that are now part of the DNA of this golden era for French electronic music, notably his album Clean which Virgin releases in 2003. After a stint in the ruthless world of majors, Cosmo Vitelli creates I’m a Cliché in 2004. His fiercely independent label stands out to this day in the underground electronic music landscape for its uncompromising approach, simultaneously paying tribute to venerable figures and taking risks by exploring music from the margins, with a distinctive knack for finding talented artists before they break through (such as Simian Mobile Disco, Azari & III, Moscoman and Red Axes). In parallel, he’s rekindled his love for guitars and pop music with Bot’Ox, Vitelli’s side-project with Julien Briffaz of Tekel. They released EPs on labels such as DFA and DC Recordings, LPs on I’m a Cliché and toured extensively, even scoring a gig at L’Olympia in Paris. Currently based in Berlin where he’s relocated his studio, Cosmo is back to releasing music under his own name. He’s already released two EPs on I’m a Cliché and an LP of edits and reworks, as part of the Edit Service series. When he is not in the studio or travelling for gigs, he curates No Weapon Is Absolute along with DJ Sundae for a monthly show on London’s NTS radio. 2019 is set to be a busy year for him, with an LP for Malka Tuti to be released in two parts, one in Spring and the other in Fall, along with an EP on Ivan Smagghe’s Les Disques De La Mort in September and a new release in the Edits Service series also in the works.House on 56, Electro on 39, Techno on 18 and Leftfield on 11. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on Dischi Autunno (1) and I'm A Cliché (1); their RA profile also lists Astralwerks, Kompakt, DFA Records, DC Recordings and 5 more. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at Renate, ciao ciao Bar, Sameheads · often with High Light, Chuggy, Ondula, none of them here that night

Either performing live with a hardware set-up, or deejaying, CYRK crafts driving, eyes-down grooves, propulsive basslines, and sleek melodic atmospheres. A sound that’s both raw and refined. Their studio work has led to releases on acclaimed labels such as Gerd Janson’s Running Back, Jen Cardini’s DISCHI Autunno, Cormac’s Polari, Italo Moderni and Jorkes’ Freeride Millennium amongst many others. September 2021, CYRK released their debut album, “Escaping Earth”, on Childhood —the label founded by Blitz Club’s Muallem. June 2022 “Freundschaft”, a collaborative album featuring co-productions with Steffi, JakoJako, Anthony Rother, David Carretta, Jensen Interceptor, Nite Fleit, Alienata, and Ravn Jonassen. 2026 has opened on a high note with CYRK reigniting their TIME ZERO label. The response was instant: vinyl copies of their “Not Human” EP sold out immediately, signalling a renewed appetite for TIME ZERO’s vision and reaffirming CYRK’s pull at the sharp end of the scene. Behind the decks, the duo takes you from the darkest corners to unfelt cheerful heights. This Detroit-influenced fusion of house, acid, and electro, rooted in a deep love for Italo disco, lit some of the world’s most revered dancefloors including Panorama Bar & Tresor in Berlin, Wonderfruit Festival Thailand, À La Folie -Paris, Blitz – München, FAUST – Seoul just to name a few.Their RA profile lists Vakant, Tronic, Running Back, Cultivated Electronics and 6 more.Recently at Tresor / Globus, Kater · often with GLOBUS, TRESOR, VCO, none of them here that night

Equally obsessive about Hi-NRG, New Beat, Dark & Nu Disco she quests through the dirtiest depths of the internet and record stores for rhythms so inviting that you can't help but bathe, kick and writhe in the sludge and dust with her. She's raised iconic dancefloors worldwide with a style that is an eclectic swag of sex, humour and psychedelia. A collision of expansive beats and seductive evolving moods that have hypnotized Berlin's audiences at Berghain's Panorama Bar for Italorama, Cocktail d'Amore, Salon zur Wilden Renate, Revier Südost, and Sisyphos to mention a few. Though she's “just a DJ, not a f***ing neurosurgeon”, she is the rock and caretaker of Wrong Era and Slow Motion organizations and parties all over the world; notorious, sweaty meet-ups for all the "not-too-hard tunz tunz" music lovers.Recently at Berghain, Kater, OST · often with MVHY, Curses, ACID BOGEN, none of them here that night

Moderna's style is described as a dark heady blend of Techno, Dark Disco, Elektro, and Acid with wrought darkened vocals that has become her signature distinction. Beginning at a young age in a noise band, 'The Static Cult', she quickly fell in love with her passion for an underground unique sound. After several years working closely with Indie electronic label Ghostly International she naturally moved on to her own works, which has gained worldwide recognition and underground appeal. She is sought after internationally with dj performances at clubs and parties such as Womb Tokyo, Rex Club Paris, Kater Blau Berlin, Poland’s Garbicz Festival and Topaz Deluxe, Bar Americas and Sunday Sunday in Mexico. Now residing in Berlin the Los Angeles transplant gained momentum in Europe while working on new productions, touring and focusing her energy on hybrid label and radio show ‘Brave New Rave’ which is the home of her debut Album "The Future Is Among Us" Out Now on all platforms. Her discography also includes 4 EPs with Mexican-based artist Theus Mago which are on French label La Dame Noir and Barcelona based label This Side Up. With the latest releases on Mexico based DURO. “Franz Scala’s sets are as diverse as the music he curates as label head of Slow Motion.”

Franz Scala’s sets are as diverse as the music he curates as label head of Slow Motion. Weaving smoothly between Italian Dance, Psychedelic Disco and Proto House, Franz quickly turns the dance floor into a vignette-tainted retro nostalgia rave fueled only by his music. Born in Italy and now a resident of Berlin for a decade Franz has his roots in noise rock and elettronica but was led by the record collectors passion into acquiring a taste for modern and not so modern dance floor music. He frequently inspires dancers in clubs all over Europe with his eclectic blend of spacey House, New Wave, Italo and Acid speckled with hints of Electro and Chicago House. Aside from producing on his own imprint, he has releases on World Unknown, Bordello A Parigi, Bahnsteig 23, Tusk Wax, Mechatronica or Discodromo´s Cocktail d’Amore Music. Franz is link to many events around the german capital such as the monthly Wrong Era, Italian Dance Wave and Italorama night in Panorama Bar, Magic Waves or New Dance Fantasy Festival. Beside long time collaboration with Sameheads he is regular dj at Griessmuhle and Salon zur Wilden Renate.
