    their own biography

    the whole biography
His debut EP is regarded by many as seminal, launching his career along with several early Downwards releases, causing a ripple of excitement through the techno cognoscenti of the time. Surgeon has been prolific since, with three albums on Tresor and numerous Counterbalance and Dynamic Tension EPs as well as his 'Breaking The Frame’, ‘From Farthest Known Objects’ and ‘Luminosity Device’ LPs “Over the course of his career, the Birmingham resident has perfected a unique and uncommonly effective production style. His is a tough techno sound with an industrial murk about it but also plenty of funk, swing and a sophisticated sense of dub-space learned in part from his Chain Reaction contemporaries in Berlin. Proving that hard can also be smart, sensuous and danceable, the influence of Surgeon on the 2010-ruling Ostgut/Berghain sound – DJs/producers like Marcel Dettmann, Shed et al – is substantial”. (Fact Magazine) Further evidence of these multi-functional production skills can be seen on Surgeon's impressive remix CV, working with the biggest names in techno (Dave Clarke, Luke Slater/PAS, Green Velvet, Hardfloor, the Black Dog etc), Thom Yorke (Radiohead), Glasgow post-rock outfit Mogwai, old masters Faust and Coil, as well as artists such Moderat, Shed, Traversable Wormhole and Scuba. Over the years Surgeon has shown his versatility as a musician with releases under his own name on FatCat, NNA Tapes and Editions Mego which break all the usual boundaries of electronic dance music. Recently dubbed by Fact magazine as “arguably the finest techno DJ in the world”, Surgeon is also naturally one of the most in-demand, with DJ mixes for Warp and Fabric and a schedule spread across Europe and Japan. He has played every key club/event/festival going; helped pioneer Birmingham’s House of God; and, held a 3 year residency at Tresor (Berlin) during its all powerful 1990s peak. He is also one half of the much loved BMB (British Murder Boys) with Regis as well as performing improvised live sets solo and with Lady Starlight, with Speedy J as ‘Multiples’ and alongside Daniel Bean as ‘The Transcendence Orchestra’ Contemporary Surgeon sets are notable for experimentation with new DJ technologies embracing cutting edge hardware and software solutions, increasingly blurring the line between a DJ set and a live performance. Surgeon is a selector of some skill and one of the most inventive, intuitive DJs out there. Using techno as a vehicle to carry his artistic message, he also mixes up everything from contemporary bass music/dubstep to Rephlex-esque electronica to create a coherent, intense and righteously banging whole. More recently live improvisation has become a more important part of all of his performances.
Their RA profile lists Tresor, Dynamic Tension, Token, Ilian Tape and 6 more.

  • Temple Rat

“Temple Rat’s music is more than just a sequence of rhythms; it is a meticulously crafted world defined by cinematic depth and organic, emotionally driven storytelling.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Temple Rat’s music is more than just a sequence of rhythms; it is a meticulously crafted world defined by cinematic depth and organic, emotionally driven storytelling. Based in Berlin, the project is the alias of Yuxin Mei, a Chinese composer and multi-instrumentalist who has spent years honing a sound that bridges the gap between ancient Eastern textures and the raw intensity of contemporary electronic music. In her artistic practice, Mei explores the relationship between space, environment, and sound. While the Erhu remains a central pillar of her work, her productions weave a rich tapestry of Chinese woodwinds, percussion, and traditional flutes. By utilising self-built sound-design tools and intricate field recordings, she crafts a distinctive sonic identity that leans on deep listening and experimental spatial-audio techniques. This philosophy extends beyond the club into the world of interactive installations and cross-cultural curation, notably through her collectives “Er Ting Ba Fang” (耳聽八方) and “Jia La.” Since her acclaimed EP Composition of Air on Siamese Twins Records, Temple Rat’s evolution has been marked by a constant desire to push boundaries. Her work has received international praise for its ability to balance traditional delicacy with modern industrial grit, leading her to iconic clubs including Berghain, Macadam and RSO. Her recent discography expands with the 2026 release of Some Leaves Must Fall 聽其自然 on the label Buttheads, a project that further explores her signature blend of organic instrumentation and sophisticated electronic structures. On stage, Temple Rat is known for her atmospheric performances, whether in her machine-heavy live shows or her eclectic DJ sets. She remains dedicated to the transformative power of sound, ensuring that every performance acts as a bridge between the heritage of the past and the sonic possibilities of the future.
Their RA profile lists Qilla Records, Siamese Twins Records, FuFu Records, Scandal and 2 more.

Long form storytelling and a curious digger’s mind, his taste and personality as an artist is driven by honesty and connecting with people by speaking from the heart. Free spirit is the closest description, a wide spectrum of techno that moves through psychedelic passages, touching on the past and the present and turning it into a shared experience. He has appeared at open airs and indoor spaces worldwide, from festivals like Rural and Labyrinth in Japan, Parallel, Houghton, Horst, Dekmantel, Draaimolen and Magnetic Fields to clubs and collectives such as Panorama Bar, Tresor, Precious Hall, Transmissions and a residency at 宀 Minh in Hong Kong. “In Fernando Zapico, one can find a rare combination: a producer with a talent for creating timeless pieces of electronic dance music, who at the same time is able to shine bright as a selector and club DJ.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
In Fernando Zapico, one can find a rare combination: a producer with a talent for creating timeless pieces of electronic dance music, who at the same time is able to shine bright as a selector and club DJ. What is it about Z@p that has made him such an idiosyncratic spirit in a sea of fresh DJs and producers emerging on a daily basis? One could look at his background; after all, being native to Uruguay, a grail of modern dance music with a rich legacy to learn from, definitely helps. Yet a strong infatuation with club culture and electronic music since the early 2000´s in the Montevideo scene has fostered him to develop and progress on a consistent basis. This same fascination led him to meet and become affiliated with the crew behind Phonotheque, a club and collective of which he is now a lifelong resident. Yet Nando is not just a representation of a culture but a representation of himself, of his edge. Perhaps this edge is the way to look at his music. Operating within a framework of conventional dance music, Z@p, as a DJ, is universally aligned to deliver his signature sound in various settings for various crowds. The beats are all-consuming, tension builds and releases organically, and there is not much left but to dance the night away under his skillful lead. But once you get sucked into the atmosphere, dissonance, carefully placed disruptions, otherworldly basslines, resonating acid, bended vocals, and seemingly contradicting narratives appear and start taking you on a whole other trip. Listening to an experienced and well-versed DJ express himself and utilize his skills, you’re bound to go on a layered and complex journey that is both captivating, empowering, and thought-provoking. Since 2015, the Uruguayan started touring Europe more and more frequently until 2018 when he finally bit the bullet and moved to Berlin permanently. Nowadays, he is a resident of both Phonotheque and Cartulis Music, two institutions pushing electronic music forward in the Americas and Europe, respectively. He continues to tour and be a frequent guest at some of the best clubs in the world, yet somehow he manages to be a tour de force when it comes to production, consistently putting out tracks that electronic music fans all around the world treasure and appreciate. These releases under some of the most influential labels of our time, such as My Own Jupiter, Time Passages, and Cabaret Recordings just to name a few, have set new standards for contemporary dance music to aspire to.
Their RA profile lists Cabaret Recordings, Cartulis Music, Time Passages, My Own Jupiter and 1 more.

“Audrey Danza builds music like a place you can enter.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Audrey Danza builds music like a place you can enter. A Swiss DJ, producer and label head of Proxima, she shapes a sonic universe that is psychedelic, emotive, darkly seductive and driven by sharp club instinct. Her sound moves between acid pressure, industrial grooves, ’90s house textures, hypnotic percussion and retro-futurist atmospheres, creating something both physical and cinematic. Based in Berlin and resident at Geneva’s Motel Campo, Audrey has brought her singular vision to dancefloors worldwide, from Europe’s most revered clubs — including Berghain / Panorama Bar, Robert Johnson, Fabric and Circoloco — to further reaches across Asia and Australia. Her latest release, *Next Stop*, marks her first self-released vinyl EP on Proxima — a direct, club-focused statement rooted in acid techno, where driving basslines, distinctive percussion and warped, spacey textures lock into high-pressure grooves. Whether behind the decks or in the studio, Audrey Danza blurs the lines between DJ, producer and curator, crafting experiences that linger long after the final track. Selected discography Audrey Danza - Flora Formulas (2024) Audrey Danza - Quantum Liquidities (2024) Audrey Danza x DJ MARIA. - Inner Call (2025) Audrey Danza - Laughing in 4D (2025) Audrey Danza - Next Stop (2026)

In 2025, she released the hazy, acid-infused EP I Wanna Feel You on Australian label Animals Dancing. Later that year, she released her debut LP In Dream on Dutch label Music From Memory, a lush, intimate soundscape of digital synths, acid bass, and whisper-soft vocals. “Lena Willikens doesn’t play the hits.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Lena Willikens doesn’t play the hits. When she’s behind the decks, even her biggest fans often have no idea exactly what she’s playing, and that’s part of the magic. Like all DJs, Willikens of course has a passion for records and is always on the hunt for elusive bits of music, but as an artist, her work doesn’t hinge on any one track, or even a handful of tracks. She’s after something bigger, something that’s truly transportive for those on the dancefloor, and the tracks she plays – whether they’re bizarre slices of synth exploration, some ominously churning proto-industrial stomp or something else that simply defies classification – are all parts of a larger, more psychically satisfying whole. Born and raised in Germany, Willikens first honed her unique approach during a long residency at Düsseldorf’s Salon des Amateurs, a much-loved nightspot that has proven to be a hotbed of free-thinking DJ talent. Outside of the club, she also found a platform on Radio Cómeme, where her Sentimental Flashback radio show allowed Willikens to dive deep into all sorts of unusual musical wormholes. (The Cómeme label was also home to her first EP, 2015's Phantom Delia.) These days, however, Willikens' radio adventures happen on NTS, where she pilots the monthly Lightning Conductor program. Now based in Amsterdam, her curatory prowess prompted an invite from Dekmantel to put together the fifth installment of their acclaimed Selectors compilation series, and she also contributed a track to the label’s run of all-star 10th anniversary EPs. As a remixer, she's been tapped in recent years to rework the likes of Lena Platonos, rRoxymore, S U R V I V E, Simian Mobile Disco and Ana Helder, amongst others. And amidst all this activity, she's also been busy with Phantom Kino Ballett, a collaboration with artist Sarah Szczesny that lands somewhere between immersive audio-visual experience and performance art, allowing Willikens to indulge her transportive impulses in a completely new way. Nevertheless, it’s in the DJ booth where Willikens continues to make the biggest impact. As of late, she’s forged a particularly potent partnership with fellow sonic explorer and Salon des Amateurs alum Vladimir Ivkovic, the two engaging in a sort of mind meld that brings together their shared love of electronic music’s darkest and most bizarre corners. Regardless of whether she’s playing alone or in tandem with someone else, Willikens isn’t the kind of artist who adheres to straight lines. Expect different temperatures, different moods and a dollop of chaos, just to keep things interesting. Circuitous paths take precedence over direct routes, and although not even Willikens herself always knows the final destination, when she’s at the helm, the journey is bound to be thrilling. • “One of the great tracks to be heard on R&S Records 1992 In Order To Dance 4 compilation was the deeply mysterious Neuromancer.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
One of the great tracks to be heard on R&S Records 1992 In Order To Dance 4 compilation was the deeply mysterious Neuromancer. The name SOURCE had not yet appeared on any R&S release list, yet the man behind the Source, immensely gifted Swede ROBERT LEINER, had been studio manager and engineer of the labels own recording facility for some time. Robert had been DJ ing from the age of 15 and had built his own recording studio in his hometown Gothenburg combining the two great passions in his life; electronics and dance music. His work for Swedish record companies and artists brought him recognition and an underground reputation in Scandinavia, however he relocated to Belgium in the early nineties to broaden his artistic scope. Roberts first recording for R&S was released as an untitled blue label promo and resulted from a live jam. It saw the light of day in the summer 1992 and immediately found its way to the worlds influential DJs; it is now highly sought after, as no more than a few hundred copies were ever pressed! But it was the 1993 album Organized Noise that really turned Roberts moniker SOURCE into a household name: throughout eight elaborated avant-dance tracks he delivered a unique blend of thunderous beats, sparkling acid and trance ingredients that was greeted with rave reviews and set alight dance floors all over the global techno village. This was dance music at its very best: uncompromising, organic and brimming with pure undiluted energy. Organized Noise launched Robert on the live front. Before he had been spinning in either techno or ambient mod now he was playing live in front of ecstatic audiences across Europe and the States. Nurtured by a wide variety of influences, Robert has never confined himself to a single genre. His interest in electronic music was aroused by artists such as Brian Eno, Can, Yello, Kraftwerk, Jean-Michel Jarre, George Clinton, YMO and Tangerine Dream but when acid and house started to happen he was one of the first DJs in Scandinavia to spin the latest discs from Detroit-, Chicago, New York and London. THE SOURCE EXPERIENCE (the Source banner was dropped when an English pop/dance combo carrying the same name threatened action) comes as the tech/trance emanation of the aspiration, as the eponymously titled double 12-inch which appeared late 1993 illustrated so well. Various reviewers hailed it as ROBERTS finest work, with Record Mirror using the phrase pure unbridled techno magic and Echoes discovering the long-lost singing robo-penis (!?) rearing in the breakdown of the track Elektra. On the other hand, the more subdued side of Roberts musical personality was first displayed on the 12-inch/CD Dream Or Reality. The track, taken from his album Visions of The Past and coupled with two brilliant alternative mixes, proved an impressive foretaste of this epic masterpiece, which since its release has acquired mythical proportions in the record collections of cognoscenti of electronic listening music all over the world. As Mixmaster Morris described the album in the January issue of i-D: Lighter than a soufflé, sleeker than a panther, this fine offering from the man behind Source drifts from airy techno to pure ambience with supreme confidence. NME coined the phrase Fireballs to melt the snow away. Robert next adopted his SOURCE EXPERIENCE guise for another devastating work: with an aural arsenal ranging from analogue terror tones to layers of digital refinement, Different Journeys and the single Point Zero contained the ultimate in sensurround techno. This widely acclaimed album launched Robert on a heavy schedule of live and DJ dates around the globe, which the inspirational Zyklus 12 inch has only helped to build upon! As both creator and DJ, Robert Leiner gives breathtaking visions of a far higher and different level than just the norm. His commitment to exposing us all to stimulating and challenging music marks Robert Leiner as a major figure in modern music, a fact that this is beyond discussion. In Roberts own words: it has always been there, you just have to discover it.!

Timnah lives, works and feeds the cats in the Northwestern extremities of Switzerland. Brought up in her parents’ jazz clubs and deeply influenced by her brother’s love for dub and soundsystem culture, she started DJing just after the massively feared Millenium Bug had threatened to offset our relation to time and space. Dedicated to drawing her own map of late 20th century sonic landscapes, she spent the early 2000s exploring 90s electronics including breakbeat, triphop, ambient techno, drum&bass, house and jungle. After a short but sweet excursion into producing in the early 2010s, Timnah dedicated herself fully to spinning the wheels and transversing genres, gravitating towards her current signature sound that spans immersive sound baths and intergalactic carpet rides in half-time. Timnah is a member of Amenthia Recordings and a recent addition to the A Walking Contradiction Collective.
