Shyam Anand, otherwise known as Snad, straddles the line between Chicago-style house and European-influenced minimal. On releases for labels such as Smallville, Minibar and Running Back, the Berlin-based DJ/producer translates classic house rhythms into a clear, organically flowing soundscape. On his latest release under his alias Spandrel, “Healing Waters”, he layers dreamy pads and speed garage basslines. Snad will be DJing at Panorama Bar this club night alongside his Running Back colleagues Gerd Janson and Roman Flügel. With Beyond The Veil, Belgian Fuse resident Altinbas has just released his Ostgut-Ton debut EP (disclaimer: self-promotion). In tracks like “Entanglement”, he weaves elastic percussion patterns with contemplative soundscapes into an emotionally charged narrative featuring expansive dub textures. Performing live is the Ostgut-Ton act Tobias., whose phenomenal track “Street Knowledge” has just been reissued by Logistic to marks its 20th anniversary.

Who they are
“In the case of Tobias Freund, all the answers are there, yet they will most probably not apply to anybody but him.”
their own biography
the whole biography
In the case of Tobias Freund, all the answers are there, yet they will most probably not apply to anybody but him. Sure, it might help to gather encyclopedic knowledge through the years about music ranging from Post Punk to Stockhausen and all points in between (and much beyond), but if you are not able to shape that into a personal artistic vision, it is very likely that your potential audience might prefer the artists your very knowledge consists of. In the works of Tobias Freund, inspirations are more to be suspected than to be pinned down. You feel they must be there. They just have to, if only for lack of better explanations. Still, his works are so original and individual that they have become a part of said knowledge themselves. Nobody else sounds like him, they just try to. He owns his sound. Certainly, it might help if you know what you are doing in terms of creating music. Tobias Freund’s process of learning what you are doing stretches back to 1980. Since then, he worked as engineer in the high-end studio of German producer legend Frank Farian for many years, getting to know everything on the mixing desk you could tweak. And he gathered more analogue hardware than others have plugins installed, and got to know it as well. And when he felt he was ready to become an artist himself, he knew exactly what to do with the ideas he had in mind, and thus his music made an impact right from the very start. Transferring his overground work into underground output, his aliases since the early nineties read like an inventory of German electronic music: Metazone, Zoon, Phobia, and especially Pink Elln. Then he put the full stop behind his first name and started releasing tracks that refined the live approach to his broad variety of music between Acid, Ambient and Techno to reduced but jacking grooves that displayed as much attention to detail as to floor impact and became an integral part of the defining sounds emanating from Germany to rule the clubs worldwide since the turn of the millennium. And it might help as well to extend your abilities to the work with other artists. Tobias Freund already started this as part of the electronic cassette circuit in the 80’s in groups like Vo Ese or Hypnobeat, but a decade later his much loved group Sieg Über Die Sonne (with Martin Schopf aka Dandy Jack) graced the clubs with twisted and multi-faceted Techno Pop, and when it went on hiatus two decades later the project NSI. (with Max Loderbauer) and the Non Standard Productions imprint were initiated, to quickly become an institution for groundbreaking explorations in freeform electronic experimentalism. And there is Odd Machine, a joint venture with Ricardo Villalobos and Uwe Schmidt (aka Atom™) in particular, with whom he also forms a live and recording act that puts the weight of their experience into according action, Atom™ & Tobias. His latest collaboration is with his wife Valentina Berthelon named Recent Arts, an audiovisual project that explores the performance of audio and video in real time. He produced and remixed international stalwarts like Efdemin, Ellen Allien, Los Updates, Delano Smith, Margaret Dygas or Aérea Negrot, on seminal labels like Sähkö, Playhouse, Ongaku, Cadenza, Perlon, Logistic, Wagon Repair, Mule Musiq, and, of course, Ostgut Ton. And this is just an excerpt. With Tobias Freund a lot of things fall into place. He knows sound from the inside out, thus he is able to develop his own as well as lend his expertise to others. And even if the studio might be his favourite instrument, he knows so much about any hardware to produce electronic music that he can push the music forward any way he wants to. There is no need to divide his works into avant-garde or club contexts, because he effortlessly merges his whole spectrum into a performance that is all him, transforming the complex textures and gripping rhythms that make his music so fascinating into experiences where listening and dancing are one, and a whole life of music leads to ever new innovations. As it happens. On the spot. Tobias Freund may be non-standard, but he sure set many.Their RA profile lists Cadenza Records, Ostgut Ton, Wagon Repair, Logistic Records and 6 more.Recently at Gaswerksiedlung, Berghain, Tresor / Globus

As a DJ, Altinbas is known for simultaneously honing in on minute details and zooming out to the bigger picture, crafting captivating journeys that explore the common threads and connective tissue between his carefully-selected cuts. Through his online mixes, his own curated parties at Fuse, and his dense touring schedule through many of Europe's club capitals, he's become known for a sound built on layered beats and rapidly shifting dynamics, where even familiar tracks feel fresh in the fabric of his sonic narratives. Honing his skills as a producer for years, he's developed a densely-layered style built on sculpted sound design and impactful grooves that's been captivating and reverberating across the international dance scene. Renowned for the level of craftsmanship in his productions, Altinbas' works have found a home on labels like Ostgut Ton, Token Records, SK11 and Non Series. “GiGi FM is a multidisciplinary artist, DJ, dancer, and music producer whose journey began in the underground squat raves of South London.”

the whole biography
GiGi FM is a multidisciplinary artist, DJ, dancer, and music producer whose journey began in the underground squat raves of South London. Now based in Berlin, GiGi has grown into a dynamic force in electronic music, captivating audiences at iconic stages and festivals worldwide. Whether blending techno, bass, and breaks or creating immersive ambient soundscapes, GiGi FM’s sets are a masterful exploration of versatility and emotional depth, transporting dancefloors into states of ecstasy. Now in her sixth year as a resident on NTS Radio, GiGi FM continues to explore sonic dimensions and share her unique musical palette. Her show is a space for deep inner journeys, weaving emotional storytelling through sound. Over the years, she has hosted esteemed guests such as Donato Dozzy, Voices From the Lake, Jako Jako & Mareena, and Vladimir Ivkovic, with many more to come. Each episode reflects GiGi’s ability to curate a shared space for introspection, transcendence, and collective experience through music. Movement has always been central to GiGi’s creative practice. A professionally trained dancer (Paris Opera & Alvin Ailey), she approaches music production as an extension of the body, often incorporating gestural techniques to create sound. Her 2022 EP Magnetite on Bambounou’s Bambe label was crafted using a MYO motion sensor, where arm gestures layered sounds in real time, embodying the interplay between physicality and sonic expression. This innovative approach flows into her self-released series, Kiwi Synthesis Diary, beginning with Vol. 1 in 2021, a deeply personal project born from using Ableton as a journal. Its successor, Kiwi Synthesis Diary Vol. 2 (2023), marked the launch of her own label, Sea~rène, a platform for euphoric, boundary-pushing soundscapes. Her most recent release, Movimiento (2024), expands on this narrative. The EP celebrates the transformative energy of dance, blending vibrant club rhythms with introspective sound design. It’s a body of work that encapsulates GiGi’s ethos: to create music that moves both body and mind. Deeply influenced by astrology, philosophy, and the cosmos, GiGi FM’s artistry bridges sound, movement, and metaphysics. In addition to her DJ sets and productions, she is developing a live ambient project linking meditation, reflection, her own poetry, and productions to craft deeply immersive experiences. Whether on the dancefloor or in moments of stillness, GiGi’s work invites audiences to connect with themselves and the universe around them. In 2025, GiGi FM continues to tour globally, including her first Australia tour and an extensive US tour, while releasing new music and curating innovative projects. Ever-evolving, she remains dedicated to crafting music and experiences that inspire reflection, transcendence, and joy.Their RA profile lists Bambe and Sea~rène.Recently at Berghain, Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart, Else · often with Efdemin, Quelza, Virginia, none of them here on Saturday

With residencies at TRESOR, OSTGUT and BERGHAIN and releases on labels like CADENZA; COCOON, OSTGUT TON and HIGHGADE, the co-founder of TAKSI Rec. and label head of ARAS can look back at quite a history. Born in 1973 in Frankfurt, Germany, André becomes dedicated to the fascinating world of rhythm early on. Working as a bartender in a club he gets the chance to fill in for the DJ at sweet 14 - an experience that changes the course of his life. Excelling behind the decks, he is a regular in a variety of clubs by the beginning of the 90`s. In 1994 he starts working for the renowned record distributor Neuton, where he meets PAUL BRTSCHITSCH. One year later André and Paul found the label TAKSI. Becoming a resident at Berlin’s famous TRESOR in 1996, André moves to the German capital. With the opening of OSTGUT, the parent club of well-known BERGHAIN, he lands his second residency. After the OSTGUT closing in 2001 André releases the legendary Mix Compilation ANDRÉ GALLUZZI: IM GARTEN and creates a new event series called SUBMERGE, running for two years. Famed for his intoxicating 10-hour sets and playing regularly at AMNESIA, IBIZA, André finds his place at the newly opened BERGHAIN. In 2005 he takes up a studio cooperation with GUIDO SCHNEIDER resulting in various releases on CADENZA, COCOON or HIGHGRADE, including their favored track ALBERTINO in 2007. The same year André releases his third mix compilation STADT STRAND FLUSS, followed by joint productions with DANA RUH on OSTGUT-TON and COCOON. One year later André launches the party event WE PLAY VINYL, a statement of dedication and support for vinyl records. Taking inspiration from his second home base London, he creates several productions for CADENZA, COCOON and BAR 25 in 2013. In January 2015 he released his debut solo album ALCTRAZ on ARAS. Gerd Janson is running the German label Running Back together with Thorsten Scheu (aka Glance). As many kids who have grown up in the early 90s in the South West of Germany, Gerd Janson was a regular guest at Mannheim’s legendary Milk Club. Although this venue was most popular for putting jungle on the map in Germany, Gerd always used to wait eagerly for the early morning hours when the pace slowed down and US styled house was the ruling sound. In the following years, his deep love for house and disco music was fed in Frankfurt’s Wild Pitch Club by Heiko MSO and Ata. In 1998, Gerd Janson finally had his first DJ residency at Darmstadt’s Café Kesselhaus. Gerd Janson has been serving the hottest house and disco cuts at Frankfurt’s Robert Johnson where he has been hosting the Liquid club nights together with DJ heavyweight Thomas Hammann for the past few years. Without a doubt, Gerd Janson is one of the hottest talents on the German DJ circuit. The word has spread, and so he’s travelling a lot as a DJ now. And when not spinning records he’s known as a prolific music journalist writing for Groove magazine or Spex …, or he’s busy working at the Pentagon Recordstore in his hometown Darmstadt and as part of the staff for the Red Bull Music Academy. Recently, he even started doing shitty remixes for acts like Antena or DJ Designer Imposter and released a compilation of weirdo 80ies jams together with Jazzanova on Sonar Kollektiv. Don’t you like that? Red Bull Music Academy Radio Bio: One of our most treasured Academy team members, Gerd Janson is the quintessential DJ’s DJ, unearthing the gems that get other music lovers hot and excited. The man has his plate full. Whether at the helm of the long-running Liquid club night at Frankfurt’s Robert Johnson with DJ comrade Thomas Hammann, dishing out simmering analog House as co-owner of label Running Back, or penning many a story for Germany’s Spex and Groove magazines, not to mention his scholarship of American studies, he seems to run on more powerful batteries than the rest of us. “Where words fail, music speaks.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Where words fail, music speaks. Reserved and solitary, Léa found refuge in music since her childhood. Jazz, soul music or French chansons, family moments usually came and still come hand in hand with music and sharing the joint, somewhat meditative listening experience. An ardent curiosity for Electronic Music started rising in her highschool days, pushing her towards broadening the musical horizon and consequently DJing in parallel to her fashion and design studies. After a few years of exploring parties in Germany and Paris, she co-founded Spectrum Waves in 2017 - a parisian LGBTQ+ collective with tolerance, diversity, freedom, parity and respect at its core. The collective hosts events at Station Gare des Mines, a rehabilitated industrial wasteland and former railway station, to provide a safer space for minority communities, where freedom of expression is lived in all thinkable forms. Through its lineups and podcasts channel, Spectrum highlights emerging French and international DJs and producers. Léa is also at the forefront of promoting women in the Parisian electronic scene. Further commitments go as far as donating parts of the Spectrum earnings to different associations close to her heart such as aid to migrants and refugees, LGBTQIA+ associations or the fight against HIV. Through her collective, she has managed to create a perfect balance between her own desires, ambitions and her fundamental values. Name the unnameable, communicate the unknowable. Spectrum Waves also vastly helped shaping Léa’s musical comprehension and appreciation of Techno as an outlet, which is able to create the same meditative listening experience and togetherness she feels when listening to music with her family. Her sets stand out for their sharp selection and absolute coherence. A mental, groovy Techno fueled by organic, tribal elements – widely reverberating in its uniqueness and class. The creation of an intimate atmosphere and cohesion in each of her sets makes them stand out, equally so does the implementation of feelings and emotions while at the same time following a rather minimalistic approach in the music itself. A real digger at heart, she has a very wide range of styles and tempos, from techno to micro house, minimal, deep, or ambient - she knows how to adapt and read energies, giving what's needed at the right moment. Pornceptual, Eerste Cie, Power Dance Club or Meat free… Playing for collectives that match her values and commitments is crucial. She performs in renowned clubs and festivals such as Berghain, Tresor, Club Raum, De School, Bassiani, Basement NYC, Fold, Le Sucre, ∄ Kyiv, Awakenings, Dekmantel, Fusion, Whole Festival to name a few. “For as long as she can remember, Annegret Fiedler has created electronic melodies to soundtrack her daydreams.”
their own biography
the whole biography
For as long as she can remember, Annegret Fiedler has created electronic melodies to soundtrack her daydreams. Drawing on her early love for brooding New Wave and Post-Punk, she became Perel, an electronic producer, vocalist and DJ who spent much of the 2010s shaping her sound – and to just praise. As well as being the first German artist to sign to James Murphy’s seminal dance-punk label DFA Records, Perel has performed internationally as a live act and DJ, from the floors of throbbing techno clubs to major city festivals. Growing up in the East German state of Saxony, she learned how to write and produce songs, inspired by Apex Twin, Kraftwerk and The Cure, among others. Later drawn to Berlin and its underground club scene, she took on the persona of Perel, writing, producing and singing on solo material for labels like Running Back, Uncanny Valley, Kompakt and Permanent Vacation. In an ever-evolving club scene with myriad faces, Perel stood out by singing over her DJ sets, bridging the mood of her own live sound with her selections. Perel drifted into the orbit of the heads of DFA Records, who released her debut solo album Hermetica in the spring of 2018. Her sound has a natural kinship with DFA: playful basslines undulate as thumping house and techno synths drive home the message of her hooks and refrains, ghostly vocalizations that speak of romance, dread and power.Their RA profile lists Kompakt, DFA Records, Permanent Vacation, Running Back and 6 more.Recently at Berghain, ://about blank, Renate · often with Ksenyeah, Mangui, NYC RAVE GIRLS, none of them here on Saturday
“It all started with one of these Chicago Trax compilations on DM/STREETSOUNDS.”
their own biography
the whole biography
It all started with one of these Chicago Trax compilations on DM/STREETSOUNDS. As a reaction to his thirsting for more of these crazed beats from overseas and with a view to his tight budget, the greatest hits of these expensive imported 12” singles were soon released in the form of a compendium. This opened Pandora’s box, for very young Roman Flügel, too. Innocently given to him by his elder brother as a present (“He probably had no idea what he was about to unleash and just wanted to give me some new music”), the dazzle of the unrefined and feverish dance music, furnished with just a few drum machines and inexpensive synthesizers, turned the whole world upside down for the cultivated music pupil from Darmstadt. After several evenings at Sven Väth’s renowned Omen club, few kilometres further up north, and his mind was made up. Memories of the atmosphere at the legendary Warp or Underground Resistance label nights has put a smile on Flügel’s delicate face ever since – a man who would also make a fine figure as a literature lecturer, poet or thinker. “LFO’s bass, once they had set up their massive range of equipment, was unbelievable,” he says laughing. It didn’t take long before the well-trained ear tried out more than just classical melodies. Little by little, he collected a vast array of equipment, bringing forth his first sound experiments and enough courage to give a demo tape to indie fan (that’s what music magazines like Zillo used to call people like that back then) Jörn Elling Wuttke. The latter was a well-known face in Darmstadt’s music scene and often enthused about new electronic music. In him he had found the right partner and Wuttke could hardly believe his spellbound ears. DJs und Delirium record sellers Ata and Heiko MSO from Frankfurt felt the same. At first they thought someone was making fun of them. It sounded too authentic and unique. The music Flügel and Wuttke had presented to their label Ongaku and Klang Elektronik as Acid Jesus or, rather, Alter Ego, couldn’t possibly come from the little neighbouring town Darmstadt. In Frankfurt, that kind of sound made people think of Detroit. The rest is history and forged an almost holy alliance. Speaking of holy: a humid summer’s day, a crate of beer and a studio in a garage sufficed to found a new label by the name of Playhouse for Holy Garage and to create that certain “surprise” which still excites house clubs today. Comrades-in-arms such as Isolée, Don Disco alias Losoul and Ricardo Villalobos made the label the number one address. So they went on, history was written and the nineties flew by in a jiffy. His degree course in music was in the way: “It seemed obsolete somehow, just to be analyzing church sonatas all day when there were so many interesting things going on around me. When, on top of that, the only semester on modern music was cancelled that year, I decided to leave the university.” Luckily for us all, actually. The electronic intellectual’s productivity is virtually unparalleled and Roman Flügel, the producer, DJ and label co-owner of Ongaku/Klang/Playhouse has meanwhile become a gentle giant in the German electro scene. With his own personal style and the privilege of being independent from the usual constraints of the music industry. A free spirit instead of a sheep. His solo project as Soylent Green (see the latest “La Forca Del Destino” compendium) is just as much of a must as his Alter Ego project with Wuttke, rigorously affirming techno down to the very last detail. He and Wuttke also count as techno Teuton Sven Väth’s favourite producers, who booked the team to produce a series of his own music. Roman’s work as Eight Miles High and Ro 70 show his quieter side, while the remixes (e.g. for Daft Punk, The Human League, Primal Scream, Pet Shop Boys, Kylie Minogue) and tracks under his own name (just think of the Arcade rave of “Geht’s Noch”) are light dancefloor affirmations. Roman also champions the cause of this in his job as an entertainer. Tried and tested by the stadium and pop hit “Rocker”, Flügel and Wuttke can be proud of being able to set any auditorium in the world on fire with their live set. DJ Roman Flügel can say the same of himself. Be it his sets at Offenbach’s Robert-Johnson, Amnesia on Ibiza or Berlin’s Tollhaus Berghain/Panorama Bar: instead of disappearing in trivial and meaningless elevator clicks, he prefers to make his way through 20 years of “rave”. Contemporary music that includes bleeping house or quirky techno meets futuristic Italo-disco and electronica devoid of all provenance. There was a time when you’d call that kind of sound acid house, released cheaper by the dozen on compilations. It all turns full circle again. From the same Himalayan headwaters that feed the sacred Ganges, Shyam ‘Snad’ Anand has drawn tireless and pure inspiration for a music career spanning three continents in addition to the millions of hearts and minds who find warmth as they swaddle themselves in his "forward-thinking" musical tapestry. If Snad’s music is akin to a fine quilt or garment, it was delicately woven with years of real-world experience in Chicago, Berlin, and the Philly suburbs. Moreover, his ever-evolving connections to the Indian Underground make Snad a key player among the most enlightened circles who still travel the Silk Roads and who take their underground seriously -- wherever they call home.
