Edition Hawara launches its new sublabel Hawara International with a listening party dedicated to its debut release: Takashi Shima's For Light Tanning, part of the Sun Tan Club series.
Originally produced by Shima — keyboardist of the band Piper — the record was designed for a very specific purpose: the pursuit of the perfect summer tan. Released with tanning instructions, oil recommendations and a promotional tie-in with Hawaiian Tropic, it drifts between ambient, new age and lifestyle soundtrack music, built as an elegant backdrop for beaches, pool parties and other seasonal rituals.
Long forgotten outside a small circle of collectors, For Light Tanning returns as a strikingly thorough document of late-1980s leisure culture — an album that leaves little room for ambiguity about its intended use. Whether it actually improves your tan remains, to this day, unverified.

Jonny Nemetz is a Vienna-based DJ, label founder, and vinyl enthusiast with deep roots in the city’s underground scene. As a member of the event collective Deephousemafia, he made his mark in the Austrian house community, both behind the decks and through Pep Sounds—the label where he also released music as part of the Pepita Project. Today, he co-runs Label Edition Hawara with two friends, a boutique label dedicated to reissuing Austrian funk, soul, and jazz gems from the 1970s and ’80s.
