'CURRENTS' are not just the electrical energy flowing through our musical machines, but also the currents of time and ocean which moved us and our entwined lineages across land and water.

The first volume of CURRENTS is a limited series of three live, electronic music nights for artists working with their sonic heritage, curated by Memeshift of sōydivision and sibling experimental label L-KW.

Premiere sonic couriers: BAERK., Leng Seong and Memeshift, transmuting a range of maternally-blessed cassette warmth, DV cam video and synthesized computer memory.

His debut GADOGADO (Mixtape) (apnoe / RAUFASER TONTRAEGER, March 2026) is a document of six years in motion, a border-crossing collection of productions that maps the journey so far. New material is in progress: tranceinducing, polyrhythmic and informed by raw field recordings, among them Gamelan cassette tapes from his mother's collection, an archive of inherited sound re-translated into hybridised, highintensity club music. As BAERK., he has performed across Europe and Southeast Asia, from sweaty underground clubs to a set on Mount Batur, one of Bali's active volcanoes.

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Gweilo is a new offering from the artist Leng Seong, and is best regarded as a prolonged act of subterfuge. In this playfully baffling addendum to the artist's previous work, Seong explores his relationship to the archetype of the trickster–a mythical figure best characterized by their tendency to challenge the natural order of things by breaking, redefining, or simply existing outside of traditional rules. Misdirection becomes the artist's process rather than his aim, and provides a radical means of experimenting with sonic, visual, material ephemera from wide ranging ancestral, personal, and pop cultural sources. While Seong–perhaps unsurprisingly–prefers to leave this work undefined, it fits neatly into his oeuvre as a lucid reflection on the spaces traveled between cultures. Partially inspired by the Malaysian folktale Sang Kancil, the album shifts at the pace of the titular lesser mouse deer, fleet of foot and quick to evade. Seong and collaborators Perera Elsewhere, Mauli, Abigail Toll, Tengal Drilon and Uxile tirelessly race between genres, blending hip-hop's rhythmic intensity with the ethereal qualities of electronic soundscapes and warm-yet-moody vocal samples. Across this 10 track journey energetic upbeats preface almost manic shifts to softer rhythms. We are invited to keep pace as Gweilo marks the path with 808s, Chinese choir samples, anime-inspired chants, and indecipherable vocals. It is through these perplexing signs that Seong reveals language itself as a favored tool in the tricksters box. Gweilo is bookended by two tracks exploring the failures and frustrations of language as a means of transmitting cultural heritage. Even the most recognizable documentary vocal samples are distorted and presented as forms of secret knowledge. Seong uses language to destabilize the spaces between the ear and the tongue and suggests that mere listening will always lead you astray. Keen listeners who experience Gweilo live will certainly realize that this work was fundamentally conceived as an audio-visual experience. Textile sculptures and live video manipulation reveal the artist's practice as fundamentally performative. Just as Seong himself refuses to be identified, Gweilo embraces each and every opportunity to shift its shape. With a watchful eye on convention and no claim to heroism, Seong approaches these shifts with the same preternatural cool required of the prey to outwit the predator. Each act of misdirection is a gesture by the artist towards his belief that self-discovery and survival may equally require us to inhabit the role of the trickster.

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Morgan Sully (US/DE) is a Berlin-based experimental musician descended from the great American portrait painter Thomas Sully, shaped by an itinerant life spanning the Pacific Ocean from Kalimantan/Borneo, Hawai’i and Southern California. Morgan’s current practice moves between live electronics, curation, and the thoughtful resynthesis of his sonic heritage: cassette tapes of Sundanese degung and Malaysian pop are filtered through echoes of Autechre and Aphex Twin; footwork and jaipong mutations blessed by the Queen of Keroncong — Waldjinah — live alongside 90s rave mixtapes of desert techno, Chicago house and acid squelch. Memeshift's sets are dense, playful and feral - often departing from his braided musical lineage, arriving somewhere between diasporic melayuncholia and archipelagic celebration. His independent research practice is grounded in two closely held questions: how music travels and mutates across musical traditions, and how the tools we use to make music carry their own embedded assumptions and possibilities. These questions find their most developed expression in Latent Sonorities — a collaborative research project he initiated with musician and performing artist Bilawa Ade Respati, composer and researcher Khyam Allami, and Morphine Records’ Rabih Beaini, developed in partnership with Berlin’s Rumah Budaya Indonesia. The project produced a freely available sample pack and tuning files drawn from the Javanese gamelan instruments in RBI’s collection — tools designed to help producers work beyond the constraints of 12-tone equal temperament. Co-released with Yogyakarta’s Yes No Wave and accompanied by a live album, concert series, and contextual guide, Latent Sonorities was the subject of a feature interview with Ableton and has been taken up by musicians, researchers and students internationally. His debut album Echoes (Chinabot, 2024) — described by The Wire as “a gently vaporous hulk of melancholia” — collapses decades and continents through field recordings, sampled cassettes, and DIY electronics, asking whether a coherent sense of home can be assembled from the fragments of a diasporic life. Sully has performed at Cafe Oto, presented at CTM Festival and various other festivals and gatherings internationally. In 2021, with L-KW and Sōydivision, he co-developed Pasar Alkisah, an ambitious, 48-hour online festival in collaboration with Indonesian folk-doom metal band Senyawa featuring nearly 200 multimedia works from over 40 other music labels spanning 18 countries to co-release the band’s album Alkisah. The international project was featured in the New York Times, NME, Create Digital Music and more. In 2022, he co-curated the long-running Soy&Synth series for improvisors across southerly, Global Majority diasporas. Soy&Synth is now past its 50th edition with an amazing new curatorial team co-curated by Irene Trejo, Eyal Vexler from AL.Berlin, Eiliyas from Black Communion, Ghaliz Fakhir Haris, Ariel William Orah and Pedro Oliveira. He currently stewards L-KW, a Berlin-based label and release channel for collaborative and research-led music projects, often with Sōydivision, but not always.
