When it comes to music and everything beyond, Lai Raw’s mission is one of constant cultural exploration and evolution. Growing up in the balmy south of Spain his sound is informed by the warm and melancholic flavours while his love for breakbeats and skippy grooves stems from his time in London where he studied audio engineering. Now residing in Berlin, Lai Raw built a reputation in the local hip hop scene and successfully gathered a following with his collaborative project Dope est Dope, where he manages to combine elements from hip hop, lofi, pop and electronic beats. Solo releases on Krekpek Records and Dezi-belle solidified his presence in the instrumental beat scene while productions for artists such as Lucio101, Sero or Babe Sila allowed him to propel himself further more mainstream realms. His #RAWSAUCE series, a collection of club edits, signifies a shift towards a faster paced, dancefloor oriented sound, something he had been studying through his passion for Vinyls and DJing with his collective 195.bln. With a repertoire that spans from soulful, groove-based hip-hop to Lo-Fi, UK garage, and bass music, Kalla orbits around sub frequencies and handmade, unique beats. Trained in piano by a jazz pianist for over a decade, followed by classical pianists and music producers, Kalla’s productions are characterized by a blend of various genre influences, spiced up by his distinctive chord voicings. A positive spirit, smiles, and laughter during performances make him stand out in his home base of Berlin, where it may sometimes seem like sadness and being dismissive are key to exposure—especially when it comes to DJing. Usually equipped with his Ableton Push and at least one keyboard to jam with, it’s easy to tell that Kalla enjoys what he is doing—making you dance or vibe with him. Formerly known as derkalavier, he continued to release solo piano music and compositions under the name Samuel Bosch, while re-establishing himself as a producer under the name Kalla, starting in 2023.often with DJ Desires, KaraKara, Shifty Rogue, none of them here that night
