Web DJ is an audiovisual performance developed by Shanghai-based musician and new media artist Jiafeng. Using the browser as an instrument, he searches, layers and mixes online videos and web-based sound tools in real time. Recordings from different places and contexts meet across multiple tabs, forming unexpected rhythms, harmonies and interruptions.

As sounds and images slip out of their original contexts, browsing becomes a form of composition. Moving between deliberate choices and accidental connections, the performance explores how we navigate, listen to and make sense of the internet—and what happens when an activity usually experienced alone becomes a shared live event.

Jiafeng

Since 2018, Jiafeng has developed his own approach to browser-based live performance, which he calls Web DJ. Instead of using conventional DJ software, he performs entirely inside a web browser, moving between YouTube videos, field recordings, online generators, live streams, acapellas, and music from different genres and regions.

Hirley Yang

Hirley Yang is a singer and songwriter from China, currently based in the UK. Working across Alt Pop and Madopop, her music explores queer identity, intimacy, and personal stories. In 2022, she released her original EP Hell Is Better.

Because our venue is a floating houseboat accessible only by water, and this event features an intimate digital audiovisual setup, we require all guests to read and acknowledge the following safety guidelines before boarding:

Shuttle & Boarding: Access to the venue is strictly via the designated boat taxi. Please follow all instructions from the skipper during boarding, transit, and disembarking.

Environment & Equipment: As this is a live digital performance, there will be cables and electronic setups on board. Please move mindfully, be aware of the boat's natural sway, and maintain a safe distance from the artist's equipment to prevent accidental disconnections or damage.

Water Rules: Leaning heavily over the railings, swimming, or throwing items into the water is strictly prohibited.

Capacity & Weather: To maintain the boat's physical balance, please follow the crew's instructions regarding weight distribution. In case of adverse weather, activities will be adapted indoors.

Liability Release: By attending, you acknowledge the inherent risks of a waterborne venue. The organizers and venue are not liable for any personal injury, accidents, or loss/damage to personal property (especially mobile phones or personal electronics dropped into the water) that may occur during the transit or the event.
