Juhani Oivo has done it all, from hip-hop nights to dancehall clubs and italo-disco dances to dubstep raves, but for the last 15 years his main focus has been the Elektorni club/label. Elektorni has brought names like Al Wootton, Sub Basics, Henning Baer, Tin Man and many more to play in Oivo’s hometown Oulu in Northern Finland. The last year has also seen Elektorni club nights branch out around Europe in venues like OHM, Kafe Hærverk and Time is the new space. As a label Elektorni has released music from amongst others Mesak, Rolando Simmons, Picture, LAS and Ismistik. The carefully curated releases have gained support from deejays like Danny Daze and Helena Hauff. As with the guests at the club and releases on the label, Oivo’s deejaying is stylistically varied – specific yet free-roaming, Oivo likes to swerve from house to techno and dubstep to electro – all on vinyl. With his unique expression, Oivo has travelled around Europe playing cities from Tbilisi to Bergen, London to Vienna and featured on platforms like Noods, Mutant Radio, Operator and Retreat Radio. Even though nowadays his focus is on electronic club music you can feel his underlying hip-hop background haunting his sets and affinity for dub music in the abundance of low-end, percussion and reverberated soundscapes, as well as the occasional exclusive dubplate special.
