Lavender Suarez, aka C. Lavender, is a Berlin-based sound artist, electronic musician, and sound healing
practitioner whose work explores the somatic impacts of sound through psychoacoustics, ritual, and
embodied listening. Working with synthesizers, percussion, gesture controllers, and spatial audio she creates
immersive sonic experiences that engage sound as a deeply physical and transformative force.
Bandcamp has called her a “drone expert,” describing her music as having “curative powers” while remaining
“confrontational, primed to change you whether or not you want it to.”
Lavender has worked regularly with spatial audio including her composition “Oneness,” for a 192-speaker
Wave Field Synthesis system that was supported by the Foundation for Contemporary Arts. She was the first
Spatial Audio Artist-in-Residence at Sonic Acts (Netherlands) in which she composed the piece “Dissipation
Traces.” Her work has also been developed through residencies at Elektronmusikstudion (EMS) (Sweden),
Pioneer Works (USA), Harvestworks (USA), Wave Farm (USA), A+E Lab (UK), and Kurimanzutto Gallery in
collaboration with The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (USA).
Lavender is the author of the critically acclaimed book Transcendent Waves: How Listening Shapes Our
Creative Lives (Anthology Editions), a contemplative artist’s workbook exploring how listening can spark
creativity, foster self-awareness, and cultivate mindfulness. The book draws on her experience in Deep
Listening as an assistant to Pauline Oliveros, her academic background in art therapy, her experiences
teaching sound healing and meditation, as well as her work teaching the science of sound to youth
communities. Transcendent Waves considers how listening can deepen our connection to the world around
us and become an evolving source of creative inspiration.
C. Lavender’s music can be found on the labels Editions Mego, iDEAL Recordings, RVNG Intl., Ecstatic
Peace!, and Old Technology among others.
Previously based in New York City, C. Lavender relocated to Berlin in 2026.

Major themes of his intense musical universe are childhood experiences, physical eruptions, psycho mechanisms and absurdities of human destiny.
“Joke Lanz is one of the most prolific and profound artists working in the border zones where performance and body art meet Improvisation and Noise.” (The Wire)
“Joke Lanz has always been a master of contradictions – sound poet and sonic vandal, noise provocateur and collage craftsman, prankster and philosopher.” (Chain D.L.K. / July 2025)
