Zack Bissell

33 listings in 5 named rooms, over the last three years

Zack Bissell is a Brooklyn-based DJ, Producer, and multidisciplinary performer whose sets blend house, minimal techno, and left-leaning club music into tightly structured, story-driven journeys. A classically trained musician and vocalist from an early age, he was performing professionally by sixteen before spending a decade as a stage actor and singer in New York City. During that time he immersed himself in the city’s nightlife, developing a curatorial approach shaped as much by theatre and narrative pacing as by club tradition.

Mentored early on by Washington, D.C. DJ Marlon Bolanos, Zack learned to mix on Technics SL-1200s and developed a deep respect for vinyl culture and crowd psychology. In Bushwick, he became known for eclectic, community-driven events and collaborations with artists including Suzy Hotrod and DJ Mozart (Ben “Jah Jah” Robey of Ninjasonik), helping produce off-kilter parties and after-hours gatherings that blurred performance and dancefloor.

He later joined Apple’s Today at Apple program and events production team, where he helped develop DJ programming for retail spaces and produced sessions featuring artists such as Dee Diggs, CherishTheLuv, Just Blaze, Jasmine Solano and others. The role sharpened his understanding of how technology and environment shape the listening experience—an influence that continues to inform his work.

After logging hundreds of hours performing in virtual reality during the pandemic era, Zack returned to physical dancefloors with a New Year’s Eve 2024 debut set in Brooklyn, followed by appearances across New York and the launch of his “In Session” series at Broken Land. His mixes regularly chart on Mixcloud, with nostalgia trap reaching #1 on the Global Dance Punk chart.

Whether playing a club, art space, or hybrid performance environment, Zack approaches DJing as authored performance: long-form sets built around tension, release, and emotional continuity rather than quick-cut programming. Current projects include new releases through VerseOne Distribution and an expanding slate of narrative-driven mixes and live experiences under the Lab Obsidian banner.

Every one of these resolves on Discogs; the ones that do not are not printed. What Discogs files them under is not printed either — its label column carries mix series as if they were imprints.

The nights, the rooms and the bills are the listings themselves. The biography and the labels are Resident Advisor's. The records are Discogs'. Nothing on this page was written for it.
