    their own biography

    the whole biography
The prolific producer’s original style landed AD at the forefront of a major underground music movement, transcending genre barriers and breaking down walls as few other underground artists have. Their game-changing contribution to the electronic music landscape has been undeniable, garnering accolades such as ‘#1 Track of the Year’ at the Beatport Awards in 2011, the iTunes #2 ‘Best Electronic Album’ of 2011, hailed as the “hottest duo in dance music” from media outlets such as DJ Mag, awarded the 2010 ‘Track of the Year’ for their breakout hit ‘Without You’ by long-standing authorities like Resident Advisor (UK), Groove Mag (Germany), and #2 in Mixmag (US), and voted #6 Top DJ's in the world in 2012. The duo have also graced the covers of DJMag Canada, Now Magazine, DJ Times, Raveline Magazine and have been widely featured in the press, including The Guardian, Rolling Stone, Vogue, I:D, Nylon and Vibe Magazine; who ranked them #2 DJ/Producers in the world in 2013 (second only to Daft Punk), firmly establishing them as a rarity in the world of electronic music. Since the project’s inception, the band has been one of the most in-demand touring acts on the circuit, performing at nearly 150 events annually on a seemingly never-ending world tour. Since their installation as residents at DC10 in Ibiza (arguably the most revered club on earth), AD has taken their immersive and unique style of DJ’ing to esteemed nightclubs such as Fabric and Panorama Bar, have performed at trendsetting international festivals like Movement (Detroit), Ultra Music Festival (Miami/Brazil), EDC (Las Vegas), BPM Festival (Mexico), Exit Festival (Serbia), Parklife (UK/Oz), Creamfields (Buenos Aires), Global gathering (UK), Burning Man (Black Rock), Lollapalooza (Chicago), Coachella (California) and Tomorrowworld (Belgium) to name but a few. In 2012 They reached yet another milestone when the duo were welcome guests on the legendary BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix and at the BBC’s hallowed Maida Vail studios, joining a rich history alongside the likes of The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. Art Department’s debut release Vampire Nightclub / Without You arrived in 2010 sounding fully formed, a track so unique that it set the electronic music world ablaze placing the project firmly at the foundation of a new era in underground dance music. Since then the pair honed their original and remix production skills, most notably on White’s own No.19 Music, with their crown jewel being the impressive debut album The Drawing Board released on the prestigious Crosstown Rebels label. Art Department’s sophomore album, Natural Selection expanded upon their previous body of work, building a deeper and more experimental sound while staying true their original music style that won the hearts of their dedicated fans. Now Art Department enters the next chapter making the change in direction abundantly clear with the creation of the latest Fabric Mix compilation, the 82nd in the legendary series. Focussed more narrowly on the dance floor and a heavier, dubby house and techno sound, Jonny released the new Art Department mix in June 2015 and returned to Room 1 of the revered club for a debut and special launch party along side former partner Kenny Glasgow, Scott Grooves and No.19 co-founder Nitin. Jonny continues to successfully develop his beloved No.19 Music record label, which to date has released works from over 100 of the most influential electronic artists across the globe. As such, in its 6th year it has become one of the most sought after imprints in contemporary dance music. In recent months the label has seen a string of celebrated producers showcase their talent, with the likes of Guy Gerber, Mathew Jonson, Jamie Jones, Martinez Brothers, DJ Tennis, Radio Slave and Dennis Ferrer all providing remixes for AD’s Natural Selection LP. Art Department, continuing to push his own creative boundaries and explore new ways in which he can help cultivate underground music culture, has found his latest efforts materialize in the form of two new vinyl-only imprints. The first, Social Experiment, is the name used for the brand of highly successful No.19 Music record label showcases that have been one of the most in-demand events at the aforementioned clubs and music festivals around the world. The second imprint, named Sunday Money, will serve as yet another opportunity for Jonny to provide even more unknown and established artists with a platform to release a slightly different style of electronic music, more heavily focused on collectors of deeper, "post-minimal" house and techno. This Autumn will also see Jonny begin work on an issue close to his heart - Music Against Animal Cruelty, a non-profit organization with one simple objective: to save African wildlife. Along with long-time friend and co-founder Wade Cawood, MAAC will act as a broker between musicians, industry insiders and music fans alike, helping to save animals facing the dangers of a diminishing population or extinction. As an additional contribution, the Social Experiment imprint will form a crucial part of fundraising efforts in its guise as a non-profit record label, with all proceeds being donated to MAAC. Now, as 2015 draws to a close, Art Department enters its next phase and continues to evolve, with Jonny alone at the controls. Never one to rest on his laurels, Art Department will continue to explore new sounds and ideals, bringing his reimagining of a project loved by so many to the world stage with no end in sight.
Their RA profile lists Crosstown Rebels, No.19 Music, The W Label, Social Experiment Records and 1 more.

“Atish plays from the soul with a smile on his face.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Atish plays from the soul with a smile on his face. His charm flows as freely as his grooves, and his infectious personality is poured into every performance. The links he makes are not just musical but personal, too, as he communicates the highs and lows of life through his sounds. As an unmistakably warm person, he has quickly built up a dedicated fan base that feeds off his passion and energy. The Atish experience is about more than just dancing - it's about connection. There is an intimacy and elegance to the music Atish plays whether it's deep house, Romanian minimal, artful techno, or emotive progressive house. Melody unites it all - whimsical keys and curious synth patterns that stir a wide range of emotions and get lodged deep in the memory. For Atish, the challenge is to lead an audience into unexpected new worlds: they won't know how they got there but will be delighted when they arrive. It's a subtle skill he has mastered while never taking himself too seriously. His own productions have come on cultured labels like Anjunadeep, Satya, and Stil Vor Talent. The Manjumasi Music label he co-founded with Mark Slee in 2016 deals in house with real heart and musicality. The aim is simply to work with artists whose music they admire; to give a leg up to those who deserve it, then watch them grow, whether with his label or elsewhere. He is similarly open-minded and candid on social media and recently wrote some software to analyze a year's worth of playlists before discussing the results. He's also keen to demystify the often shadowy and secretive world of DJing and production and open it up to all, which is why he started his own unique party series, Late Night Tonite. Each event started with a sit-down interview with the guest and a conversation about the creative arts before the dancing began. That now dormant concept led Atish to start his own mentorship program during the Covid lockdowns. He continues it to this day, with students enjoying one-on-one coaching, feedback, and advice sessions in which he shares what he has learned about all aspects of the industry. In truth, this career chose him rather than the other way around: as a long-time and obsessive music collector, he was happy enough to play on the side around his software engineering day job. But he was making such a mark on the parties he played that word got out and the bookings kept on coming. He decided to throw himself into music rather than live to regret the missed opportunity and hasn't looked back since. Atish has forged his own path and proven that DJs need not hide behind the music. Instead, Atish is right there to share the moments with you.

Content with shouldering the pressure that comes with lofty praise and hailing from Tel Aviv, a city with an astounding lineage of dance music greats in Guy Mantzur, Guy Gerber, Shlomi Aber, Sahar Z and confidant Guy J, this wunderkind has carved out a path of his own while staying true to his heritage. With a hypnotic and emotionally charged style that blends early 2000s progressive with house grooves and elements of contemporary techno, Khen possesses a truly idiosyncratic sound that transcends genre. Going back to when it at all began, Khen immersed himself in the world of dance music at an early age under the tutelage of his older brother. When not busy learning how to play the piano, 6-year-old Khen mixed records using two cassette decks. When he stood before a set of Technics 1210s for the first time, he was yet to blow out the candles on the day of his 9th birthday. He was also gifted with an almost unsettling production talent and was encouraged to start spending time in the studio at age 11. Instantly spellbound by the process, he spent all his spare time in front of a Moog synth instead of the playground. A buzz amongst the house and techno faithfuls in Tel Aviv started building, and the scene began to yearn for the young prodigy to showcase his productions on a dance floor. He obliged and ended up playing his debut club show at merely 15 at Tel Aviv’s legendary Dome venue. After years of honing his skills both in the studio and behind the decks, his music hit the ears of Guy Mantzur in 2011, who promptly signed him to his Plattenbank imprint. Proving to become a catalyst event, the then 22-year-old Khen regained his determination to pursue music. Since then he has released on labels in the likes of Nick Warren’s Hope, Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat, Guy J’s Lost & Found, Jeremy Olander’s Vivrant, John Digweed’s Bedrock and microCastle. On the club end, the most coveted DJ booths in the world he once yearned to stand in are now his second home. With his allure growing beyond the shores of his home country in recent years, he has visited revered venues in the likes of Bahrein, Sound, Monochrome, Ministry of Sound, Pacha, Chips, Halcyon, Schimanski, Silver & Smoke and more. He saw his international breakthrough in 2016 when he released his critically acclaimed debut album ”One Day of Independence” on Guy J’s Lost & Found. The LP saw support from the likes of Pete Tong, Noir, Dubfire, Joris Voorn, Hernan Cattaneo, Jeremy Olander, Paco Osuna and made the coveted number 1 spot on the overall releases chart in mere days. Khen started 2017 with a debut US tour at Schimanski in New York City, Sound in Los Angeles and Halycon in San Fransisco and released massive debut EPs on Vivrant and Bedrock. Infinite praise from industry institutions such as DJ Mag and Mixmag followed, and it was no surprise the influential Dancing Astronaut named him an ”Artist to watch in 2017” alongside Yotto, ANNA and Enrico Sangiuliani. Mixmag opted to feature him in their “Impact” segment that highlights high momentum talent and has previously played host to budding superstars Lauren Lo Song, Cristoph, Peggy Gou and Julia Govor to name a few. With this in mind, there’s no wonder that he caught UK legend John Digweed’s eyes and ears. ”Baby Steps” was Khen’s debut on Digweed’s power house label Bedrock, and you can surely have a worse coming out party on a new label. Two of the three tracks cracked the overall Beatport Top 100 and stayed at the top of the charts for weeks and left the Bedrock fan base longing for more. Going from strength to strength in 2017 with a lot more to bring to the table, all signs point to 2018 becoming an even bigger year for Khen. With an arsenal of remixes on Noir, Bedrock and originals on Lost & Found as well as other unnamed labels, the crown is there for the taking for this phenom pegged as the next big thing.
