“Relaxer is the project of Daniel Martin-McCormick, fka Ital, member of Black Eyes, Cry and Gaze and co-founder of Dripping.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Relaxer is the project of Daniel Martin-McCormick, fka Ital, member of Black Eyes, Cry and Gaze and co-founder of Dripping. Rooted in the US punk/noise underground of the late '90s and early 2000s, Martin-McCormick's music embodies a sensual, visceral edge that reflects and extends that legacy. His hardware live sets, honed over a decade of tours, are exhilarating, white knuckle rides, while his DJ sets fluidly cross genres and eras with a cathartic sense of urgency. He's been a repeat performer at Berghain (where the Relaxer project made its live debut), De School, Unsound, Nowadays and many others. On his first five self-titled EPs and albums "Concealer" (Planet Mu), "Coconut Grove" (Avenue 66) and "Hedonic Fatigue" (Climate of Fear), his productions stretch out, weaving strands of wormhole techno, minimal, noise, UK hardcore continuum and fractured ambient into a rippling, mesmeric tapestry. More recent club-focused EPs "Licking" and "Candy" (Lovers Rock Recordings) sharpen the blade, amping up his music's animalistic snarl and erotic undertones. 2024's "Break" saw him working in drum n bass-techno hybrid form after a special live set was commissioned by NY dnb cult fav party Headznite. It was released by experimental fav 29 Speedway, with two remixes from DJ Marcelle. Following his composition studies with Morton Subotnick, Relaxer's music has also evolved a new modality: alongside his club works there have been concerts of long form durational works featuring spoken word and richly spatialized sound design. His debut performance in this new style was a standout at Sustain-Release Year Seven. These works were released in the Summer of 2022 as "Force Field: A Guide for the Perplexed" on Club Night Club. "In Softening Air," the follow up, is out on Lovers Rock Recordings. Behind the scenes, Martin-McCormick has been a consistent force shaping the US underground. He is the co-founder of Dripping camping festival and NY-based event series. He was a key member of Sustain-Release from its inception and co-director from 2017-2021, founded the labels Lovers Rock Recordings & Climate of Fear, was one of the first residents at Bossa Nova Civic Club. Best known for his Level parties, Andrew Devlin has been booking some of the city's best house, techno, and hip-hop DJs for almost 10 years. His DJ sets reflect the party's vibe--equally focused on the party people and the record heads, serving up cutting-edge music with no pretense. A typical Devlin DJ set can span NY deep house, psychedelic minimal, UK bass music, and an odd Drake track. Many DJs claim to have range, but few blend Call Super and Barry White at peak time.Last at Mansions in Aug · often with NIGELTHREETIMES, Alien D, No Sir, none of them here that night

“Lauren Flax has been a lifelong musician, starting to play the drums at 8 years old before continuing on to guitar and bass in high school.”

the whole biography
Lauren Flax has been a lifelong musician, starting to play the drums at 8 years old before continuing on to guitar and bass in high school. She began her DJ career in the underground dance and rave scenes of Detroit as a resident at the Motor Lounge, playing every Tuesday night along with resident DJs Mike Servito, DJ Dilemma, Jason Kendig, and Derek Plaslaiko. Flax played the very first Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000 on the Motor stage. While originally starting off as a jungle DJ, Flax evolved her style into a variety techno, house, and electro music. Flax moved to Chicago in 1999, where she honed in on music production while continuing to DJ. By 2002, she relocated again to Manhattan, which shortly followed the release of her first remix, "Much Finer" for Le Tigre. In 2018, Flax was introduced to DJ Haus by fellow Detroit musician and friend Jimmy Edgar, to which he quickly signed a record, resulting in "Dance Trax Vol. 16" (2018). In 2019, Flax joined the mostly Detroit-born New York collective The Bunker New York,[1] on which she released "One Man’s House is Another Woman’s Techno EP" (2019). The EP was highly successful and sold out quickly. Flax met with Brooklyn-based record label 2MR in 2019, curious to explore beyond the realm of dance music. She remixed 'Breathe' by label-mate Pale Blue, and that ended up inspiring Flax's new style of music. After the remix was released, Flax took to writing a 6 track EP, merging genres of ambient, acid house, and much more, set to come out in Summer 2021. Flax started touring the United States and Europe as a solo artist in 2019, performing live analog sets, pushing the boundaries of what a DJ is defined as.House on 39, Techno on 22, Acid House on 13 and Electro on 17. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on WRKTRX (3), Aliens On Wax (1) and House Of Efunk Records (1); their RA profile also lists Defected Records, !K7, Toolroom Records, Nervous Records and 6 more. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileoften with Sevyn 0000, Austin Kunis, Costume Design, none of them here that night

“A triple threat who lights up a room when behind the decks, in the studio and on stage, TORIBIO is a lifelong student of rhythm.”

the whole biography
A triple threat who lights up a room when behind the decks, in the studio and on stage, TORIBIO is a lifelong student of rhythm. Analyzing melodies and chords with a musician's ear, the Dominican-American artist blends different genres and moods in all his creative pursuits–DJing, producing, singing, playing instruments, and even his skills on the mic. Thanks to a childhood spent playing in church and jazz drumming, the Florida-born, New York-based act has a natural sense of harmony. He takes on the role of musical cartographer in his Afro-Latin band, Conclave, whose debut album was named one of Resident Advisor's best in 2021 and praised by both Rolling Stone and the New Yorker. Acting as the ensemble's bandlander, vocalist, and key instrumentalist, TORIBIO connects jazz, soul, and house from various cultures with style and grace. His speciality in sonic connections are especially tangible in his DJing. Gliding from pan-Latin club to raw electro to jazz to old-school funk, his sets are a masterclass in building energy and tension. Whether playing Boiler Room or clubs in Mexico City and Tokyo, he knows how to work a crowd with selections and transitions that are as precise as they are powerful. As a producer, his edits and originals are DJ weapons, rinsed by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Rich Medina, and Theo Parrish. His original tracks have been remixed by the likes of Louie Vega, Joe Claussell, and DJ Spinna. Known for fostering community through movement, his Brooklyn block parties (Public Service NYC) embody the spirit of New York’s dance culture while his newly formed imprint B.D.A. is quickly becoming known for bringing these vibes to vinyl. the whole biography
Lovie's musical discovery began in the digital music age: a young lover of local radio and after-school MTV marathons, her early mixes took shape in the form of burned CDs she made for her friends. After relocating from her hometown of Washington, D.C. to New York in 2020, Lovie's unique selection of soulful, spiritual music swiftly ushered her into New York's local music scene. At the taste-making Brooklyn radio station, Lot Radio, she gave birth to her homey platform, summer school radio. For five years Lovie's radio mixes—now being offered as one of the station's few weekly residencies—have thumbed through the intimate corners of her music collection. She saunters through slow-groove disco, dusty '70s funk and groovy '80s jazz at a studied pace that makes it easy to marvel at every timeless chime, trill, and drum beat. She's as tempted by the bedroom pop of Clairo as much as the cosmic funk of Lonnie Liston Smith. Outside the Lot, Lovie presents summer school radio as soothing listening sessions around Brooklyn, providing warm balms for city fatigue with artists like alt-jazz harpist muva of Earth and New Age legend Laraaji. As co-founder of Soul Connection with long-time friend and collaborator, Honey Bun, she imbues the power of friendship and Black femme empowerment into sumptuous house music and '90s R&B spun with the patience and musicality associated with the East Coast house tradition. Connecting the mind, to the body, to the soul, her club sets inspire the warmest, most community-minded dance floors you'll find in the city. Her diligence to the craft, musical curiosity, and deep focus on the listening experience earned her a spot on Mixmag's Top 25 Breakthrough DJs of 2024. She now holds a coveted residency at Brooklyn club public records, and has played at art centers like MoMA, Brooklyn Academy of Music and The Beacon Theater, where she opened for Kamasi Washington. Her work has also brought her to international gigs at Paris's Djoon, London's Spiritland, and more. Whether playing on her stomping grounds or rocking dance floors overseas, Lovie creates honey-sweet dance floor memories you'll want to replay again and again.Recently at Nowadays, Eavesdrop · often with JADALAREIGN, Jenifa Mayanja, Analog Soul, none of them here that night
