(written by Apryl Fuentes for Cult Classic Magazine Issue 03) "Adam, a.k.a. foreigner, is a Swiss knife of innovation, single-handedly teaching himself how to DJ and go on to produce some of LA's most memorable Afrodiasporic events. As I sat with him on the eve of Roadblock™️, his latest underground Afro/Caribbean operation, Adam shared some memories with me of growth between cities and the impact this had on his identity. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, raised in Caracas, Venezuela then NYC, the moniker, foreigner, speaks to the multiplicity of his experiences traversing the map. ...foreigner approaches parties with pure artistry and intentionality, utilizing spaces like blank canvases for experience… Events like Play™, Junkyard Jouvert, and his most recent Roadblock™, are his way of bringing people together on space with the common goal of cultural ownership and pride. ‘The way my philosophy is evolving, I really want to center people from the diaspora, specifically people behind the scenes and behind the decks. Oftentimes, in the underground scene, you hear Afrodiasporic music, but you’ll seldom see black people playing it. It just hit me at a certain point that there are so many talented black people in LA that create and play the music that inspires me, that are only limited to mainstream platforms, which are very scarce in LA.’ Adam Cooper is humble in admitting intentions to evolve his craft and contributions to his community. For foreigner, his visions exist beyond one party, it is his desire to provide space for carefree, black joy, and recontextualize diasporic unity, that make all his ideas boundless. This is an effort that won't end and he wants you to see he's coming up with this year. Chances are you might not know what to expect. foreigner is now, foreigner is here, foreigner is there, foreigner forever."often with Ethan Tomas, Rhythm Factory, Pelau, none of them here that night

In the span of her journey, Niara has become an integral thread in the renaissance of music, community, style, and expression in New York. Originally from Virginia, Niara's roots have heavily influenced her developing sound - from an array of massive basslines, melodic patterns, and throbbing kicks summed up in a soulful pulse. In New York, she's occupied spaces like Brooklyn Mirage, Good Room, House of Yes, Jupiter Disco, Le Bain, and Public Records spinning subgenres of House and Soul music. She's been proud to have shared decks with artists she admires such as Aluna, Easy Mo Bee, Full Crate, DJ Spinna, Rich Medina and more. Her gift has granted her access to the world, performing at festivals like Tropíco in Mexico or touring with Talib Kweli around the country and Switzerland. Niara has also toured for brands like Burberry and has DJ'd for other artists like Ari Lennox, Alxndr London, Masego, and Mosey Sumney. In 2020, Niara was featured in Essence magazine as a "spin doctor you need to know and cannot afford to be clueless about." In 2021, Niara made her second appearance on national TV on the OWN network. She performed original music for a tv special called Vital Voices of 2021, hosted by Oprah Winfrey. With many other notches on her belt, Niara is most proud of her evolving sound as she blossoms into her ideal producer. Her new residency NICHE is where you can trust her to experiment in her purest form. Expect her rhythmic selections to be submerged, vast, lush, and sometimes otherworldly.Recently at SILO, Jolene Sound Room Brooklyn, Black Flamingo · often with Cosmo, Eli Escobar, Belinda Becker, none of them here that night
