    their own biography

    the whole biography
Joris Voorn sits at the epicenter of the Dutch electronic music scene, the most renowned and instantly recognisable artist from Holland, representing underground house and techno on a wider global stage. For a country with a population of just seventeen million Holland’s contribution to world electronic music is unsurpassed. While house and techno trace their roots to the marginal and mainly black American underground, its taken a relatively small country in the European lowlands to flip electronic music on its head and turn it into the global powerhouse it is today. In 2016 few could deny that Amsterdam is the global capital of electronic music and few artists embody the melting pot of musical influences that define the city’s underground techno scene more than Joris Voorn. Joris is the embodiment of the modern-art and tech-savvy touring DJ, with both feet planted in firmly in the underground techno world, but a keen eye for contemporary art, photography and a long-standing love of architecture (you only need to check his Instagram or EP covers to see where this all comes together). Born in the Dutch town of Tilburg, the son of a composer and a music teacher, Joris gained international recognition with his breakout ‘Muted Trax EP’ on Keynote which was followed quickly by his universally acclaimed ‘Lost Memories EP’ on Sino the following year. Its follow-up ‘Lost Memories Part 2’ in 2004 included the standout track ‘Incident’ which became an immediate and firm fixture in the sets of many of his now-peers including Carl Cox, Derrick May and Laurent Garnier and was one of the standout tunes of that summer at clubs everywhere from The Sub Club to Circo Loco. Since then he has gone on to release three hugely critically acclaimed artist albums, ‘Future History’ (released on on Sino in 2004), ‘From A Deep Place’ (released on Green in 2007) and the most recent ‘Nobody Knows’ voted electronic album of the year 2014 by Billboard Magazine in the US. He has backed these up with dearly loved mix compilations for Belgian techno bastion Fuse, Australia’s Balance series and most recently London underground superclub fabric. In 2005 he founded the founded ‘Green’ the first of two labels which he runs with long-time collaborator Edwin Oosterwal. This has provided a platform for Joris’ two most recent albums, plus some of his biggest hits including 2013’s ‘Ringo’ and his 2016’s ‘Looks Fake Obviously’. The second label ‘Rejected’ has given him an outlet for more straight-up house tracks aimed squarely at the dancefloor such his various installments in the ‘Dusty House’ series of Eps plus somewhere to release tracks from his peers such as Deetron, Anton Pieete, Ian Pooley and Steve Rachmad. These two labels represent the opposing ends of the ‘Spectrum’ of underground music that Joris is proud to champion. In fact, this word is so synonymous with the wide range of underground musical styles that inspire and inform both Joris’ DJing and production work that he decided to call his forthcoming radio show and event series ‘Spectrum’, allowing him to fully explore the full reach of his extensive musical tastes and share them with a wider audience. Throughout the years Ibiza has always played an active part in Joris’ summer touring diary, from early gigs at We Love on Sundays at Space, through to his more recent La Familia nights at Ushuaia with Nic Fancuilli, in 2016 Joris has in the enviable position of holding not one but two key residencies in Ibiza, at ANTS at Ushaia alongside the likes of Maya Janes Coles and Kolsch, and El Row at Space alongside Eats Everything, Paco Osuna and Groove Armada. Outside of Ibiza, Joris is a regular fixture at all of the key clubs and festivals on the global underground circuit performing multiple weekly shows at events across Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Australia, Russia, Brazil, Colombia, Israel, Detroit, Chicago and New York. These include clubbing institutions such as fabric (London), Output (New York), Womb (Tokyo), Fuse (Brussels), Faust (Paris), Warehouse Project (Mancheser), elrow (Barcelona) fabrik (Madrid), Zouk (Singapore) and Spazio 900 (Rome). As far as festivals are concerned Joris has a long-running relationship with both the Awakenings and Strafwerk/Digital events series in his native Holland while further afield he can be found playing at festivals such as Parklife (Manchester), Movement (Detroit) Tobacco Dock (London), Ultra (Miami), Mysterylands (Amsterdam), Hideout (Croatia), Electric Zoo (New York) and BPM (Mexico).

    their own biography

    the whole biography
As DJ Awards’ 2016 Electronic Live Performer, Matador is a revolutionary live artist with a shining reputation for versatility, whilst never compromising on quality. Accolades have been showered on the Dublin-born producer, from proud ambassador of the NEVE 5088 Console, and Richie Hawtin’s PLAYDifferently MODEL1 mixer, his tenure as an ENTER resident at their worldwide events, to his consistent spot in RA’s Live Artist poll, bringing him rapid worldwide acclaim and a devoted worldwide fan base of clubbers and peers alike. Still thirsty for new worlds to conquer, Matador, aka Gavin Lynch, recently took on a new role as label boss for his RUKUS imprint. Matador’s breath-taking explosive live shows result in packed crowds and an equally packed touring schedule including key bookings at top clubs and festivals such as Awakenings, Tomorrowland, Sonus Croatia, Ultra, and Output, DC-10, Space Ibiza, Stereo Montreal. Playing to ecstatic thousands at sold out shows worldwide is a far cry from his early years. Raised on Motown, Matador then grew up with Guns N Roses, Pink Floyd, Orbital, Kasabian… As a teenager inspired by electronic giants Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer and Jeff Mills, he listened faithfully to the Essential Mix, collecting records and learning to DJ on any pieces of equipment he could afford. His drive to learn more led him to a sound engineering course at Dublin’s Sound Training Centre, with an emphasis on electronic music production, and an obsession was born. ‘Whilst electronic production is my first love, it has been incredibly important to have knowledge of instruments in their purest form both in a studio and in a live environment.’ Along with early interest from Cocoon and Perc Trax, an encounter with Richie Hawtin boosted him from aspiring DJ on the Dublin underground club circuit to a key component of Hawtin’s Minus imprint. His success was assured by his string of successful releases there such as ‘Kingswing’ and his ‘Spooks’ EP, and by his innovative, ever-evolving live shows. His relationship with Hawtin continues to be a fruitful one, having been enlisted as an ambassador for his PLAYDifferently Model 1 analog DJ mixer in 2016. Last year also saw Matador founding his RUKUS label. ‘I’ve always loved the idea of taking my tracks from conception in the studio all the way through to release,’ he says. Initially creating an outlet for his own music, this year he invites exciting new and established talent to the imprint, as he extends his range as label boss. In 2016 he unveiled his newest live show at Loveland (ADE 2016), and he promises to add more new elements into an already complex and acclaimed performance in 2017. Unusually multi-talented outside music, Matador’s many interests and skills have fed back into his DJ career. His early twenties were spent training as a chef to the point of a promising career in Dublin’s Michelin starred restaurants. Following his Dad’s advice of ‘find something you love doing and you’ll never work a day in your life’, he split his time between the kitchen and the decks, before cooking became a much loved hobby and music his life’s work.

“Born and raised in Tokyo, Alice Iguchi is a DJ currently based in Brooklyn, New York.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Born and raised in Tokyo, Alice Iguchi is a DJ currently based in Brooklyn, New York. After arriving in 2015, Alice found a sense of belonging in the underground house and techno music scene in New York City. Her foray with DJing began in 2017, and music has since become her international language of choice, expressed through an eclectic fusion of sounds. Alice recounts that her first recognition of music as a child was listening to jazz in her father’s car in Japan. As she developed her own tastes in music as a teenager, she ventured into playing guitar for a Tokyo rock band. At age 19, Alice’s musical influences expanded to artists who experimented with electronic elements like Radiohead, Bjork, and Massive Attack. When she started exploring other countries at 20, Alice became exposed to the international world of house and techno music. Additionally, the sounds that made an impression on her then and continue to inspire her now include percussive instruments from street performers that she encountered throughout her travels. As a DJ today, Alice has established a distinct sound rooted in her Japanese origins layered with the musical influences that she has amassed from the various stages of her life. The signature aspects of her music cleverly blend oriental tones, jazz-infused grooves, and organic percussion, at times with intentionally placed vocal hooks. Alice has an incredible ability to take her audience on a mesmerizing curated journey, be it with vibrant house, driving melodic techno, or deep sultry tunes suited for daytime, nighttime, or afterhours. In 2018, Alice established a residency at Do Not Sit On The Furniture while living in Miami and also performed at numerous events during Art Basel Miami and Miami Music Week. Upon moving back to Brooklyn in 2019, she has regularly been invited to play at New York City’s iconic clubs like the Brooklyn Mirage, House of Yes, and Elsewhere. Alice has performed at renowned global venues such as the main stage of the Brooklyn Mirage in New York City, Flash in DC, Womb in Tokyo, and the infamous Sisyphos in Berlin. She has shared the stage with Bob Moses, Guy Gerber, DJ Tennis, Maceo Plex, Joris Voorn, Rodriguez Jr., Einmusik, Blondish, Matthias Meyer, and Francesca Lombardo, among other notable artists. During 2023, Alice toured through Asia and made appearances in certain European cities, broadening the reach of her original sound and continuing to stir up the underground electronic music scene around the world.

“Born in East Germany to a renowned photographer and a classical musician, she began DJing in 1996 and quickly rose to prominence as part of the growing underground techno scene around Leipzig and Halle/Saale.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Born in East Germany to a renowned photographer and a classical musician, she began DJing in 1996 and quickly rose to prominence as part of the growing underground techno scene around Leipzig and Halle/Saale. Her dedication to her craft and natural talent swiftly paid off, leading her to substantially shape the electronic music scene of Eastern Germany from that point on. In 2006, Mira moved to Berlin, Europe’s capital of electronic music, where she found her musical home at the legendary Bar25 and, later, Kater Blau. It was here that Mira rose to fame throughout Europe and the world, becoming a defining representative of a distinctive sound that was going global. Deep and soulful while always maintaining a continuous, sensual groove, Mira’s sprawling, hypnotic sets became the soundtrack for many an endless night. The centerpiece of Mira’s residencies at these clubs has been her yearly birthday event, ‘Katzen Tanzen auf’m Tisch,’ which runs for three days straight every December in Berlin. Curated by Mira from a selection of old friends and new faces, the series has hosted a multitude of then-unknown artists who have since gone on to tour the globe. Alongside these legendary parties, she also hosts the regular ‘Mira invites’ events, where she invites a refined selection of artists to provide the soundtrack to those long Berlin nights. Recently, Mira has been using her careful ear for talent as label curator for the Kiosk I.D. imprint, a relatively new project that perfectly complements her already-established reputation as a vital progenitor of the scene. Sifting through hundreds of demos by new and unknown artists every month, the label has become a central part of her creative practice in recent years as she seeks to push and encourage the upcoming generation of producers. In the studio, Mira often collaborates with her partner-in-crime Christopher Schwarzwälder, and the two have released a host of chart-topping singles. This partnership has since carried over to dancefloors globally, where their legendary back-to-back sets create a perfect musical dialogue between two artists who share a deep understanding and love of sound. Mira has been at the height of her game for the past twenty years, continuously shaping the sounds around her and never ceasing to push and inspire new artists. As happy playing in a small underground club in East Germany in the ’90s as she is playing to thousands of festival-goers at some of today’s biggest festivals, Mira is truly one of those artists who can be said to do it for the love of the music. Every time a new track by an undiscovered producer falls into her lap, it’s a new moment for her to fall in love with her craft all over again—and to share that love with the tens of thousands who hear her play.

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Not to mention being co- founder of the famed Robots parties and amusing us weekly as Robot Radio's alluring and witty host. Within the world of electronic music everyone has a tale about our friend Bill Patrick. Some funny, some sad, some tragic, most shady, but at the end of each story or any encounter with this demi god you're left wanting more. In 2008, this mythical creature, who by chance was reborn a man, relocated to Berlin. Why? Few know. Some say it was in search of gold, some suggest it was out of self-loathing, those in his inner circle say it was to be closer to them. He says it was to challenge the European state of mind and how sexually active they, as a people, can become. In any event all legend and lore were left behind. So where has that left this man, this nu-romantic? I'll tell you, striving to be more. It doesn't matter that the only places he now plays are festivals like Sunwaves in Romania, Outline Festival in Moscow or highly respected clubs like Closer Kiev, Robert Johnson and Concrete in Paris. After a much talked about 31 hour set at Sunwaves Festival in 2016, Bill and his partner in crime, tINI, have teamed up as Rolls “N” Do and now find themselves thrust into a whirlwind of high profile gigs. Currently touring the globe and vocally enlightening the Universe, Bill still finds time to keep his Instagram up to date and send out wildly entertaining content across all platforms. Not to mention, producing a monthly radio show, Chaotic Neutral, on OpenLab Radio and curating playlists for boutique hotels such as Hotels Costes in Paris, Baba Beach Club in Thailand and Guldsmeden Hotel in Berlin. But he wants to step out of his box and come to you, to educate the minds of the world with his deep, psychedelic take on contemporary dance music. - Words by Seth Troxler

NIKITA Brooklyn, NY listed bookings | LIVING | The Endup | Cityfox Brooklyn | BEAUTIFUL | non-fat ARTIST BIO written by Jack O'Shaughnessy On the same day Dolly Parton, Janis Joplin, Edgar Allan Poe, his mother and grandmother were born, so too did San Francisco DJ, NIKITA, begin his enchanted existence. As a young boy in Denver, Colorado, NIKITA's childhood was similar to that of other extraordinary creative youth; days filled with church and show choir, playing the piano, and dancing to his mother's R&B albums. From an early age, NIKITA always knew he wanted to be an entertainer. Then, in 1993, a chance encounter with house music at an underground warehouse party would prove to be a pivotal moment in his life, ultimately guiding NIKITA towards the charmed life he lives today. It wasn't until the turn of the millennium though that NIKITA would leave his home in Colorado to search the clubs and warehouses of San Francisco for his destiny. At the very least, he would get a degree in Music Business from San Francisco State University. But with a resounding perseverance and an inimitable personality, NIKITA quickly earned his place among the upper echelon of DJs in San Francisco's world-renowned club scene. In 2005, NIKITA was chosen to host his own radio show, The Massive Mix, on Northern California's only electronic dance music radio station, Energy 92.7 FM. Indeed, it was NIKITA's penchant for blending raw grooves with sophisticated sounds that garnered him a residency at San Francisco's legendary nightclub, The EndUp. Today NIKITA credits SF as the city that made him the adult and artist that he is today... NIKITA is a DJ's DJ, a rare soul who truly understands his role in the DJ booth. Performing anywhere from two to eighteen hour sets, NIKITA weaves music into fantastic journeys of rhythm and sound. NIKITA's ability to contrast the harder elements of techno with the soulful sensuality of deep house has garnered him accolades from some of the world's best DJs and allowed him the rare opportunity to tag team alongside the likes of Cassy, Danny Howells, Lee Burridge, and Derek Plaslaiko. Indeed, NIKITA has played with a Who's Who of international talent, including Craig Richards, M.A.N.D.Y., Joel Mull, Adam Beyer, Steve Bug, Damian Lazurus, Honey Dijon, and many, many more. With additional inspiration coming from friends such as David Harness and Danny Tenaglia, it comes as no wonder why NIKITA's story is one of a dream come true. Today, NIKITA and music partner, RAY ZUNIGA (Co-founder and label owner of Touch of Class Records), produce an international music experience called LIVING.us. Their events started as an underground in Brooklyn, and they’ve taken the brand to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin, and Europe for Amsterdam Dance Event for the past two years. In 2018, WeArePulse declared LIVING as one of the Top10 events at ADE. For a recent promo mix please visit www.soundcloud.com/DJNIKITA OR www.listedbookings.com

    their own biography

    the whole biography
The three members of N/UM come from a variety of musical backgrounds. Jeremy Loucas is a five time Grammy winning mixing & mastering engineer with years spent as a DJ in the underground party scene in NY – Elias Meister, an electronically experimental guitarist with a decade of performance experience in free and improvised music – Emil Bovbjerg is a vocalist, synth instrumentalist and producer/DJ with a background in orchestration and contemporary arranging and composition. Each performance or recording by N/UM is improvised, with no pre-composed songs, no plan or structure agreed upon. Despite the daring premise and unconventional creative approach the raison d’etre and mission statement of N/UM is simple: The opposite of war is a dance floor. N/um translates to medicine or supernatural potent energy. The word is used by the !Kung (formerly Bushmen), an indigenous people of Botswana and Namibia, to describe a healing energy used to cure sickness, both mental and physical, in individuals as well as the community as a whole. N/um is a central part of weekly dancing ceremonies, lasting typically from nightfall into dawn, in which the tribe’s members gather to dance for many hours until dancers enter into varying states of trance. As the trance deepens the n/um builds in the stomach, travels up through the spine and eventually explodes in the brain as the healers reach !Kia, the state in which, according to the tribe’s beliefs, a healer can transfer n/um to those in need of healing as well as to the community where it is said to maintain unity and relieve jealousy, greed and lack of gift giving. Among the !Kung everyone is encouraged to take part in the rituals and over half of the tribe’s members have become healers by the time they reach adulthood. You dance, dance, dance. Then n/um lifts you up in your belly and lifts you in your back, and then you start to shiver. [N/um] makes you tremble, it's hot. . . . Your eyes are open but you don't look around; you hold your eyes still and look straight ahead. But when you get into !kia, you're looking around because you see everything, because you see what's troubling everybody . . . n/um enters every part of your body right to the tip of your feet and even your hair. - Kinachau (via Richard Katz)
