The diverse sonic worlds that Carmen Villain has built over her career are shaped by her natural curiosity of sound. Her music hits a sweet spot between dub’s blunt rhythmic lilt and cosmic fourth world. Her most recent full length album, Only Love From Now On, was released to critical acclaim, landing on several end of year lists, including Pitchfork and Resident Advisor, with the latter calling it “a masterpiece of jazz-informed ambient and downtempo.” At the end of 2024 she released Nutrition, a three-track EP where she delves deeper into the mutant dub vortex, with Philip Sherburne calling it “as sumptuously textured as it is thrillingly destabilizing.” Carmen has brought her atmospheric live performance to venues and festivals such as Berlin Atonal, ICA London, Dekmantel and Mutek. the whole biography
Heavily influenced by innovators such as Throbbing Gristle and Floorplan, their productions encapsulated sounds that were inspired by the UK and Detroit, and were complimented with live spoken word. After moving to Berlin in 2016, they transitioned from performance art to DJing, where their sets on HÖR facilitated their breakthrough as a DJ. Having drawn inspiration from early industrial and techno pioneers, x3butterfly’s sets retain a raw and ominous quality, with a club twist. Prioritizing the eclectic, they often aim to take listeners on a story-telling journey while simultaneously keeping them on the dance floor. Their sets combine jungle, drum and bass, R&B, dubstep, techno, and other world sounds at 140-160 BPM. x3butterfly has played in various clubs in Mexico, Germany, Denmark, Greece, as well as a multitude of cities in the US. They have quickly become a rising NYC star, DJing notorious NYC venues such as Bossa Nova, Mood Ring, and Nowadays. “Relaxer is the project of Daniel Martin-McCormick, fka Ital, member of Black Eyes, Cry and Gaze and co-founder of Dripping.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Relaxer is the project of Daniel Martin-McCormick, fka Ital, member of Black Eyes, Cry and Gaze and co-founder of Dripping. Rooted in the US punk/noise underground of the late '90s and early 2000s, Martin-McCormick's music embodies a sensual, visceral edge that reflects and extends that legacy. His hardware live sets, honed over a decade of tours, are exhilarating, white knuckle rides, while his DJ sets fluidly cross genres and eras with a cathartic sense of urgency. He's been a repeat performer at Berghain (where the Relaxer project made its live debut), De School, Unsound, Nowadays and many others. On his first five self-titled EPs and albums "Concealer" (Planet Mu), "Coconut Grove" (Avenue 66) and "Hedonic Fatigue" (Climate of Fear), his productions stretch out, weaving strands of wormhole techno, minimal, noise, UK hardcore continuum and fractured ambient into a rippling, mesmeric tapestry. More recent club-focused EPs "Licking" and "Candy" (Lovers Rock Recordings) sharpen the blade, amping up his music's animalistic snarl and erotic undertones. 2024's "Break" saw him working in drum n bass-techno hybrid form after a special live set was commissioned by NY dnb cult fav party Headznite. It was released by experimental fav 29 Speedway, with two remixes from DJ Marcelle. Following his composition studies with Morton Subotnick, Relaxer's music has also evolved a new modality: alongside his club works there have been concerts of long form durational works featuring spoken word and richly spatialized sound design. His debut performance in this new style was a standout at Sustain-Release Year Seven. These works were released in the Summer of 2022 as "Force Field: A Guide for the Perplexed" on Club Night Club. "In Softening Air," the follow up, is out on Lovers Rock Recordings. Behind the scenes, Martin-McCormick has been a consistent force shaping the US underground. He is the co-founder of Dripping camping festival and NY-based event series. He was a key member of Sustain-Release from its inception and co-director from 2017-2021, founded the labels Lovers Rock Recordings & Climate of Fear, was one of the first residents at Bossa Nova Civic Club. He currently holds a residencies at The Lot Radio and Dripping.Techno on 12, Ambient on 8, Abstract on 5 and Breakbeat on 2. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on 29 Speedway (1), Club Night Club (1) and Lovers Rock (1); their RA profile also lists Workshop, Planet Mu, Thrill Jockey, 100% Silk and 4 more. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at Nowadays, BASEMENT, Mansions · often with Cry, MARBLE RYE, Carpet (F.L.H.P), none of them here that night

“Significant Other, a UK-born DJ, producer, and curator now based in Berlin, has carved out a distinctive space in the electronic music landscape with his emotionally resonant productions and genre-resistant style of DJing.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Significant Other, a UK-born DJ, producer, and curator now based in Berlin, has carved out a distinctive space in the electronic music landscape with his emotionally resonant productions and genre-resistant style of DJing. Consistently operating at the fringes, his creative output is an at times chaotic fusion of the tough and more tender corners of modern dance music. Initially emerging from the Brooklyn underground scene, Significant Other co-founded the prolific NYC event series and record label Club Night Club, cutting his teeth as a covert curatorial presence behind-the-scenes of a new wave of late 2010s Brooklyn dance music. With sporadic releases appearing across a range of acclaimed UK labels, little artist information provided, he emerged from the shadows as an enigmatic figure within the ecosystem of off-kilter dance production. His debut album Residuum arrived via Manchester cult favorite YOUTH in 2021, representing a veiled departure from the club origins of the project. A ghostly, atmospheric full-length grounded in texture and stygian catharsis which revealed a different side to his sound, transposing the tension and release balancing act of dance music onto a listening geared LP format. In the interim years his sound and DJ sets alike have become even harder to define. His work seamlessly blends elements of ambient, dub, and rougher club sonics, creating immersive fugue-state listening experiences that are at once both introspective and dancefloor-ready. The consistently elusive nature of the project has imbued his long discography with a liminal quality, his production and live output alike forever skirting the margins of genre and utility. Over the years he has garnered a cult reputation for his slant on the skudgier, atmospheric ends of contemporary mood-driven electronic music. In 2024 he launched the record label and Berlin event series Pain Management, an anti-dancefloor outlet for outsider sounds spanning spoken word, hellish dub experimentation and avant-garde electronica; ‘body music for restless minds’.Their RA profile lists SPE:C, Youth, Well Street Records, Oscilla Sound and 1 more.Recently at Mansions, Sugar Hill Disco · often with Eleftheria, Buttechno, Matana Roberts, none of them here that night
“Akanbi is heading a new generation of dedicated ravers in New York City.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Akanbi is heading a new generation of dedicated ravers in New York City. Raised in Lagos, Nigeria, with limited access to the internet but a huge thirst for new music, Akanbi moved to NYC in 2010 and immersed himself head on into every corner of dance music, as a serious dancer and, eventually, a DJ and rave activator. He’s cultivated his unique style of DJing that delivers an intentional blend of freak-out boogie music, sensual rollers, whip-crack bangers, insistent percussion, afrobeat goodness, deep thumping low frequencies & slow-burning experimental descents. In 2014, he started New York City's GROOVY GROOVY party - a judgment-free atmosphere for wild dance floors, spiritual, mental & physical rejuvenation, radical politics, and a dose of undeniably rocking talent. Akanbi has made an impression with visionary sets across the globe at select spaces like Guggenheim Museum, Sustain Release, Nowadays, Dekmantel, Horst, OIL Club Shanghai, WWW Tokyo, Berghain/Panorama Bar, Corsica Studios, Primavera Sound Barcelona et al.Recently at Bossa Nova Civic Club, Trans-Pecos, Mansions · often with /KATA/, Yaya Flows, DJ SWISHA, none of them here that night
