the whole biography
As one of the co-founders of Hessle Audio, Ben UFO has been responsible, alongside Pearson Sound and Pangaea, for some of the most varied and ground breaking releases of recent years. Having become immersed in the still emerging dubstep scenes in London and Leeds in 2005, his musical taste was shaped primarily by the DMZ and Sub Dub nights taking place in those cities. However, as tastes have shifted and scenes have fragmented, Ben UFO's approach to the music and to Hessle Audio itself has developed. As BPMs have dropped and influences have broadened, so too has the vision of Ben UFO's DJing. He remains one of the few DJs in the UK to have made an impact without a production career to fall back on, and as such his reputation is solely the result of his skill as a selector and as a mixer. As a result he remains in a position to fully explore sounds both old and new, across the worlds of house and garage, dubstep and grime, and further into the past. This level of commitment to the dance music of the last two decades has led to a collection of records which reflects the position London has long held as a city responsible for the constant development of forward thinking music. This is not to say that his focus is primarily on the sounds of the old school, as Ben UFO is looked to as one of the leading figures supporting up and coming producers. He was the first DJ to play material by producers such as Blawan and Joy Orbison, both now scene figureheads, and his weekly slot on London's leading ex-pirate radio station, RinseFM, is considered to be one of the only places to hear the most exclusive new music by both new and established producers. In addition to well received podcasts in magazines and websites as varied as Resident Advisor, XLR8R, Red Bull Music Academy and Fact Magazine, 2011 was the year that Ben UFO entered the world of commercially released mix CDs. His contribution to the respected RinseFM series was widely praised for its coherence despite the breadth of styles showcased, and he was placed #35 in a Resident Advisor readers’ poll to find the years best DJ. It’s a result which reflects Ben UFO’s ability to successfully present unfamiliar, experimental dance music to a diverse variety of audiences worldwide.Their RA profile lists Hessle Audio.Recently at Nowadays, Mansions, H0L0 · often with Helena Hauff, Shvili, Emsho, none of them here that night

“Four Tet is the electronic outlet for the solo work of Keiran Hebden.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Four Tet is the electronic outlet for the solo work of Keiran Hebden. First single was the 36-minute ‘Thirtysixtwentyfive’ on Trevor Jackson's Output Recordings label (1998). ‘Dialogue’ was Four Tet's first full-length album, fusing hip-hop drum lines with dissonant jazz samples. In 2001, Four Tet's second album ‘Pause’ was released on Domino and found Hebden using more folk and electronic samples, which was quickly dubbed "folktronica", while “Rounds”, Hebden's most ambitious album to date, was released in May 2003. In March and April of 2005, Four Tet performed two shows of improvisational music, in collaboration with jazz drummer Steve Reid, in Paris and London. He also appears on Steve Reid Ensemble 2005 album Spirit Walk. This collaboration was extended into a series of international tours, and the release of two albums, The Exchange Session Vol. 1 and The Exchange Session Vol. 2 over the course of 2005 and 2006. Hebden has also remixed artists including Madvillain, Bloc Party, Super Furry Animals, Beth Orton, Badly Drawn Boy, The Notwist, Boom Bip, Kings of Convenience and Radiohead.Their RA profile lists !K7, Output Recordings, Domino, Text Records and 3 more.often with Wata Igarashi, Budino, Berghain, none of them here that night

The short-story version of Kim Ann Foxman’s trajectory is pretty simple: An island-born kid dreams of a life in clubland, hits the big city and, with a little bit of luck and a lot of hard work, emerges as one of dance music’s leading figures. But it’s the details that transforms her singular tale into something far more fascinating than the standard-issue success story. After all, what other DJ can lay claim to the title of Miss Teen Filipina Hawaii? How many can say that their first job in nightlife was when in high school, serving as the in-house dancer and serving rave smoothies at an all-ages club? How many, after moving to New York by way of San Francisco in the early ’00s, can say that they helped to rejuvenate the city’s then-stale nightlife via her residency at one of the best parties ever held in a hole-in-the-wall gay bar, the Mad Clams affair? How many have tasted stardom as one of the original members of the scene-making dance-music collective Hercules and Love Affair? Exactly one, and it’s Kim Ann. But it’s a safe bet that she would have made it to where she is today without those biographical eccentricities, because her near-classical take on jacking club rhythms is hard to resist, sounding as fantastic at a full-scale mega-rave as it does at a grimy basement bash. It’s a universally appealing sound that’s taken her around the world—the past few years have seen her playing such hallowed halls as Fabric, Berghain, DC-10, Concrete and Contact, all while holding down a residency at her hometown’s Good Room. A lifetime in clubbing has informed Kim Ann’s studio work as well, with her music—much of it coming out on her own Firehouse label—synthesizing the best elements of raw house, propulsive 303 material, emotive techno and even the occasional hint of trance into a hugely satisfying whole that lives somewhere between the weird and the wonderful. And then there’s her latest project, Pleasure Planet, which sees her teaming with Andrew Potter and Brian Hersey to add sparkling touches of extraterrestrial new wave to the mix on her new sublabel, self:timer. It’s yet another twist in the continuing saga of Kim Ann Foxman—and, we’d wager, there are plenty more to come. Under the Priori moniker, Québecois musician Francis Latreille has established himself as a crucial voice in underground techno. Across a sprawling discography, including two full length albums, several eps, and a host of collaborative projects, Priori builds a hyper-detailed world steeped in science fiction and fantasy, residing somewhere between the biological and the synthetic, the actual and the possible. Priori’s meticulously crafted dance music is full of fractalizing patterns, ear-prickling textures, and crystalline melodies that emerge and flicker in stunning detail; it is evocative, enchanting, and always moving. Priori is also an accomplished mixing engineer who has worked with James K, Bambii, Maara, Ex-terrestrial, Roza Terenzi, D.Tiffany, Regular Fantasy, Ramzi, URA and many more. As one half of NAFF recordings and the Jump Source recording studio, Francis is steadily shaping the course of underground electronic dance music in Canada and abroad. On May 30th, 2024, released his third full length album. Entitled This but More, the record sees Priori sidestepping the club in favor of a more contemplative space, yielding electronic compositions layered with acoustic instrumentation and spectral processing. The album includes a booklet of suggested stories by Devon Hansen and animated visuals by Jack Anderson.Their RA profile lists Clone Records, Echovolt, BAKK, ASL Singles Club and 5 more.Recently at Nowadays, H0L0 · often with Aurora Halal, adobeprincess, Berghain, none of them here that night
