“Ryan started his ongoing love affair with dancing and dance clubs at a young age.”

Ryan started his ongoing love affair with dancing and dance clubs at a young age. But it wasn’t until moving to New York in 2006 that he took his love of the music in the direction of DJing and promoting. Noting that many of the city’s gay dance clubs were playing surprisingly homogenous music, Ryan was inspired to push that envelope. Combining forces with DJ Ron Like Hell, Ryan started DJing at “Rocket,” a party night they collaborated on at Hose in the East Village that became popular for its distinctive mix of classic and forward-thinking house and disco. Later he co-conceived and DJ’d the Soffitta70 parties at the Public Assembly Loft in Williamsburg, combining house and techno music with psychedelic art, and drawing a vibrant and eclectic young dance crowd. The sound Ryan and Ron created for these parties caught the attention of Catz ‘n Dogz, and Electronic Music Bears, and Honey Soundsystem leading to the duo's tailoring exclusive podcasts for all of them. Ryan’s penchant for soulful rhythms with a decidedly forward edge soon brought him DJ gigs in San Francisco (with Honey Soundsystem), DC at U Street Music Hall, in London (Dalston Superstore with the legendary Optimo and Vogue Fabrics with Severino, and Club Butt w/ Butt Magazine and Boris of Berghain), and in Berlin (Cocktail D’amore) as well as one of New York’s most popular dance clubs and parties, from the main floor of the legendary Saint At Large Black Party to Santos Party House and nights such as the legendary Bunker, the cutting-edge techno night in Brooklyn. As a DJ, Ryan continues pushing the dance music envelope with sweat-inducing rhythms at his latest ventures, “Wrecked,” at National Underground in New York. He’s also expanding his creative parameters as one of the founding partners of Discaire, a queer-run record label based out of NYC, San Francisco and London and booking some of the worlds most sought after underground DJ’s. And of course he keeps pushing the hip-moving musical parameters of New York’s dance clubs!Their RA profile lists Central Dogma Records.Last at BASEMENT in Feb · often with Day Thief, T.Wan, Sterling Juan Diaz, none of them here that night

Born and raised in Queens, a city dweller and a club kid, Kilopatrah has an innate and superlative gift for transferring energy from the booth to the dance floor—through exciting house, techno, and jungle, and moments that both harken to Sound Factory–era glory days and bring you to sweaty BPMs of the future. Their sets are palpably personal: The dance floor has always been a powerful platform for expression for Kilo, once as a freeing and connecting space for a quiet house dancer and now as one for moving others like them. When Kilo gets going, you’ll lose sense of the kick drum versus the beat of your own body against the floor. That’s a gift from them to you, and your percussion is a gift back to them. Kilo brings their energetic sass to a monthly Lot Radio residency and to parties with impressive lineups, playing alongside Todd Terry home in New York, at the legendary Movement weekend Club Toilet in Detroit, and for Boiler Room. Their mixes, for series such as Coloring Lessons, Honcho, and Juanita’s, and for spots on Rinse and Refuge, also capture the club at its most euphoric. You’ll step a little harder with Kilopatrah Jones.
