SHIMZA - BIOGRAPHY Unquestionably one of South Africa's brightest talents, Shimza real name Ashley Raphala (29) has made the transition from aspirant industry young blood to leading light of the global afro house scene at almost breakneck speed.   The Tembisa-born DJ, producer and promoter’s musical skills can be traced as far back as the age of fifteen, fuelled by the support and encouragement from his family. And his resultant rise to fame is littered with accomplishments too numerous to list but include winning a string of high profile DJ competitions to single handedly hosting his One Man Show event brand - a large scale outdoor party held every Christmas Day to raise funds for under privileged children.     A philanthropic focused initiative started in 2009, Shimza’s One Man Show sponsors school uniforms and stationary for school kids from his hometown of Tembisa whilst also driving job creation. Over the years, the event has showcased some of South Africa’s hottest artists including AKA, Cassper Nyovest, Riky Rick, Black Coffee, Mi Casa, Black Motion and many more.   Shimza however has not shied from proving that his altruistic heart by no means overshadows the innate musical talent and unparalleled technical prowess that he possesses. In 2013, Shimza was signed to the Soulistic Music record label, taking up his place on a roster of internationally established artists including Black Coffee and Culoe De Song. Over the last few years, the release of his full-length album Shimuzic as well as countless collaborations and singles such as ‘African Woman’ and ‘Akulalwa’ have firmly established Shimza as one of South Africa’s leading house music producers.     Nicknamed the “Effect Master’ and ’Vinyl Assassin’ by many adoring fans, Shimza’s playing style is infectious and creative with dance floors left speechless by how deftly Shimza punctuates his sets with complicated queuing and looping as he weaves together his signature “Afro-tech’ sound.   It’s no surprise that he has his international music career now growing rapidly on the back of touring and performing over the last few years in Europe and North America including New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Manchester, Sicily and many more. In 2016, Shimza made his Ibiza debut at Destino’s Closing Party alongside Luciano to much hype and immense acclaim. The SA born star was featured in a number of Spanish publications following his historic set and was hailed as a new rising star by Ibiza music and party authority Essential Ibiza.   Midway through 2017, Shimza was poised to take his career to the next level with his latest track ‘Destino’ forthcoming on Djoon Experience. The two track EP included a remix from the inimitable Karizma. Further to that, Luciano’s highly revered imprint Cadenza Music released a 4-track EP ‘Ascendant’ from Tembisa’s proudest export. As he continues his journey of world domination Shimza has signed to a full music service agency which landed the DJ / producer a residency at the worlds biggest club Privilege, Ibiza, Spain. He will officially embark on this four-month blazing trail on 7th June 2018 and will headline the SuperMatrXe parties every Thursday from June until the 04th of October 2018. The residency solidifies Shimza’s footprint and provides a platform for him to take his sound to places where music is the universal language.

“Prizing craft over spectacle, he is recognized by legends and peers for his floor-filling productions and hypnotic crowd command.”

    the whole biography
Prizing craft over spectacle, he is recognized by legends and peers for his floor-filling productions and hypnotic crowd command. Whether he’s whipping up a peak-time festival slot or a nine-hour marathon set, no two Spencer Brown parties are ever the same. As a producer, Spencer’s mastery of groove and melody allows him to blend sounds and thrive across genres. In addition to constant output on his own label, diviine, he’s released recent major singles on labels as varied as Anjunadeep, Bedrock, and Higher Ground. His tracks are played regularly by the world’s top DJs, including Solomun, deadmau5, John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, Keinemusik, Dubfire, Fisher, Carlita, Carl Cox, Mochakk, and Patrice Bäumel. As a DJ, Spencer has reached a point of total dance floor control. After nearly 20 years of playing live, he can read any crowd and stir up madness on the fly. Recent conquests include career-defining headline shows in the UK, Albania, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan, Brazil, and Argentina. His North American following is deeper than ever, with sold-out sets from San Francisco to New York, Miami to Vancouver, Houston to Calgary. Nearest to his heart is his multishow residency at Stereo Montreal, where he plays 9+ hour marathons in the steps of his inspirations. Spencer began DJing at the age of 12, when his dislike of the music at school parties convinced him to produce his own. His first break came when Avicii signed him to LE7ELS for his "Chalice” EP in 2014. Spencer made his live debut opening for Avicii at the Hollywood Bowl the same year, which led to an opening slot on the North American leg of the True Tour. After graduating from Duke University in 2016, Spencer picked up pace with global tours supporting Above & Beyond and releases with deadmau5. Spencer released his debut studio album, Illusion of Perfection, in 2018. Inspired by his distaste for radio edits, he presented the LP as one continuous mix. His second mix-format LP, Stream of Consciousness, followed in January 2020. This volume included collaborations from Ben Böhmer, Marsh, and Qrion. Both albums went number one on the iTunes Dance charts and led to international headline tours. 2023 saw the release of his third album, Equanimity, which led to 80 headlining shows worldwide. More recent show highlights include Echostage with Eric Prydz, Green Valley with Black Coffee, Big Night Live with deadmau5, and Studio 338 with John Digweed, in addition to B2B sets with testpilot and Eli & Fur and a seminal co-headline US club tour with Cristoph in the fall of 2023. 2024 saw the unveiling of his Signature Series of open-to-close shows, where his unique ability to blend sounds and keep crowds swirling was met with rapturous reviews. As he continues to deepen his powers, Spencer floats above modern day micro genres and puts his gratitude at the fore. As he said after his latest Stereo all-night marathon, “Love is left when there is nowhere to hide.”
Their RA profile lists Bedrock Records, Global Underground, Mau5trap Recordings, Anjunadeep and 1 more.

“Part mythical desert harlequin, part modern soul conductor, Mikey Lion is more than a DJ––He’s a freak of nature and a controller of energy.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Part mythical desert harlequin, part modern soul conductor, Mikey Lion is more than a DJ––He’s a freak of nature and a controller of energy. The San Diego-native has earned a dusty mystique over the past few years as the center of the Desert Hearts movement and as a house and techno provocateur with a stage presence that suggests he will ride this wave all the way to the top. If there's one thing Mikey does well, it's get the party started. Lion has brought the mothafuckin' ruckus to the stages of Lightning in a Bottle, the dustiest storms at Burning Man, and The Do LaB at Coachella, earning nods from Claude VonStroke, Jamie Jones, and Green Velvet in the process. In doing so, Lion and his signature top hat have developed a boisterous voice in the House & Techno scene with strong tribal, hip-hop, and psychedelic elements. But it all started with Wu-Tang and Daft Punk. Lion first found his way behind the decks as a thirteen year old kid, scratching underground hip-hop records religiously after school. At Coachella as a seventeen year old, he witnessed that legendary Daft Punk performance on the same night he tasted his first dose of psychedelics. The show had such a monumental impact on him, he gave up Hip-Hop and became a House DJ the very next day. After honing his craft with weekly marathon DJ sessions at Sala Razzmatazz in Barcelona, Mikey was introduced to Burner culture at Lightning in a Bottle, 2011. It was at his first Burning Man in 2011 that he found a community calling and merged forces with his brother Porkchop, life long friends Marbs & Deep Jesus, and the inimitable Lee Reynolds to form The Desert Hearts Crew. In November 2012, Desert Hearts began as a seedy, 200-person renegade gathering deep in the Mojave Desert. The intrepid crew barely survived a set of extreme weather conditions and unfortunate circumstances, but that first party sparked a fire. The entire point of that first Desert Hearts was to create as much love as humanly possible, and now that same gathering has evolved into the darling of the West Coast house and techno scene. The Bi-annual festival is capped at 3500 attendees in order to create the best possible vibe. Built upon beautiful people getting as weird as possible to deep and trippy house and techno, Desert Hearts has already achieved iconic status in the North American Festival Scene. Desert Hearts has given rise to a family of thousands and it's safe to call it a bonafide movement of love. And while Desert Hearts Records launched in 2014 as a totally-free record label, pushes the sonic aesthetic of the scene, the crew’s busy international calendar of bookings has the DH message spreading far and wide. At the center of it all is Mikey Lion, the dusty prince of desert hearts, a beacon of weird far and wide, and one of this generation’s most compelling agents of love.
