“The three members of N/UM come from a variety of musical backgrounds.”
their own biography
the whole biography
The three members of N/UM come from a variety of musical backgrounds. Jeremy Loucas is a five time Grammy winning mixing & mastering engineer with years spent as a DJ in the underground party scene in NY – Elias Meister, an electronically experimental guitarist with a decade of performance experience in free and improvised music – Emil Bovbjerg is a vocalist, synth instrumentalist and producer/DJ with a background in orchestration and contemporary arranging and composition. Each performance or recording by N/UM is improvised, with no pre-composed songs, no plan or structure agreed upon. Despite the daring premise and unconventional creative approach the raison d’etre and mission statement of N/UM is simple: The opposite of war is a dance floor. N/um translates to medicine or supernatural potent energy. The word is used by the !Kung (formerly Bushmen), an indigenous people of Botswana and Namibia, to describe a healing energy used to cure sickness, both mental and physical, in individuals as well as the community as a whole. N/um is a central part of weekly dancing ceremonies, lasting typically from nightfall into dawn, in which the tribe’s members gather to dance for many hours until dancers enter into varying states of trance. As the trance deepens the n/um builds in the stomach, travels up through the spine and eventually explodes in the brain as the healers reach !Kia, the state in which, according to the tribe’s beliefs, a healer can transfer n/um to those in need of healing as well as to the community where it is said to maintain unity and relieve jealousy, greed and lack of gift giving. Among the !Kung everyone is encouraged to take part in the rituals and over half of the tribe’s members have become healers by the time they reach adulthood. You dance, dance, dance. Then n/um lifts you up in your belly and lifts you in your back, and then you start to shiver. [N/um] makes you tremble, it's hot. . . . Your eyes are open but you don't look around; you hold your eyes still and look straight ahead. But when you get into !kia, you're looking around because you see everything, because you see what's troubling everybody . . . n/um enters every part of your body right to the tip of your feet and even your hair. - Kinachau (via Richard Katz)Their RA profile lists Visionquest, Lost Diaries, Duro and Ninetofire.Recently at 99 Scott Ave, Avant Gardner, Dada · often with Greg Paulus, Salar Ansari, Navid Navbox, none of them here that night

“Shaun Reeves is an internationally-acclaimed DJ, producer and label owner.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Shaun Reeves is an internationally-acclaimed DJ, producer and label owner. A founding member of the trailblazing group Visionquest, his influence reaches far beyond the cities he has called home and stretches around the globe. Growing up in Michigan and brought up musically on a diet of house and techno in nearby Detroit, Shaun moved to the city in his late teens and began organizing small club nights and loft parties with his friends. Upon getting involved in the Detroit Scene, Shaun was immediately influenced heavily by the more minimal sounds from djs/artists such as Daniel Bell, Magda and especially from Zip and the Perlon label. This influence and a search for new inspiration led Shaun to take a summer holiday to Berlin in 2004 that turned into 10 years living in the city. In this time his deft touch as a DJ won him fans on dance floors from Panorama Bar to Fabric, DC10, Robert Johnson and countless other highly influential underground clubs. Combined with his time on the road with Visionquest, Shaun Reeves has covered much of the globe over the past decade, enthralling audiences on both sides of the Atlantic with his own highly distinctive mixture of American house, both classic and contemporary, and the deepest, most cutting edge aspects of post-minimal techno and tech-house. . In tandem with his DJing, Shaun Reeves has maintained a consistent level of production work, releasing on labels such as Wolf + Lamb, Raum...Musik, Catwash, No. 19 Music and his own Visionquest imprint. The artist is also an in- demand remixer, contributing remixes for Visionquest/ David Lynch, Tracy Thorn, Dop, Dinky (Sven Väth’s label Cocoon). Today, Shaun Reeves is determined to focus on his solo career and wishes to explore new possibilities in terms of musical creation. With plans afoot for a slew of high-quality releases, which embody his leftfield yet accessible take on house and techno, his release schedule for the coming year is already looking busier than ever.Their RA profile lists Simple Records, Crosstown Rebels, raum...musik, Catwash Records and 6 more.Recently at Apollo Studio · often with Topper, Greg Paulus, DAY, none of them here that night
“A Motor City, Berlin, London hybrid, Ryan Crosson is a complex artistic creature.”
their own biography
the whole biography
A Motor City, Berlin, London hybrid, Ryan Crosson is a complex artistic creature. Equal parts energetic, down to earth Detroit native and ultra-refined, musical aesthete, Ryan has one ear to the club and one ear far, far beyond. Known the world over for shape shifting, shoulder shaking tracks on groundbreaking labels including Wagon Repair, M_nus, Spectral Sound, and his own Visionquest, Ryan’s production and sampling practices depart from the worlds of house or techno by referencing musique concrète, Downtown New York funk, and East African jazz. Born and raised on a steady diet of post-apocalyptic landscapes, dark warehouses, and the sounds of Plastikman, Matthew Dear, Magda, and Villalobos, Ryan’s DJ sets expand the horizon of possibility without sacrificing dance music’s core element of sweaty, hedonistic fun. His unique musical vocabulary and tireless dedication ensure him a place in the dynasty of forward-thinking techno transplants. Alongside Lee Curtiss and Shaun Reeves, Ryan is responsible for running Visionquest Records, one of dance music’s most cherished and eclectic imprints. Ryan and his partners in Visionquest have honed a whole new landscape of lush, organic techno and esoteric leftfield electronica. In 2014, Ryan helped oversee the construction of Visionquest’s newest ventures —their digital arm and sub-label Brachtune, as well as Visionquest Special Editions, a vinyl only imprint that leans towards the kind of after-hours, dubby tracks that will remind long-time friends and fans of Ryan’s early morning sets in the notorious “Tesh Club” basement. An enthusiastic and hardworking DJ, Ryan crisscrosses the World both as a solo act and as part of the Visionquest trio. In past years he's been a regular at such clubs as Fabric, DC10, Cityfox and his personal favorite Club der Visionaere in Berlin. A recent move back to the States finds him settling in Brooklyn, New York with a mind to head back into the studio for multiple long term projects. In addition to EPs on Hallucienda, Visionquest and Roche Madame a second album with long time friend and partner Cesar Merveille is in the works. The new album will see the pair continuing to mesh live classical and jazz musicians with modular and analog based electronics to create a unique twist on contemporary electronic music.Their RA profile lists M-nus, Spectral Sound, Trapez Limited, Telegraph Records and 6 more.Recently at Dada, Jolene Sound Room Brooklyn · often with Haley's Kitchen, Jimbo James, Physical Therapy, none of them here that night

Born of Indian and American heritage, Solana's upbringing was steeped in the rich tapestry of classical and world music, courtesy of her familial influences. She studied piano, flute, and voice, yet felt constrained by their limitations in expressing the kaleidoscope within her soul. During her teenage years, she was exposed to commercial trance anthems and some random techno sets from older friends, but it wasn't until she encountered the transcendent realms of Fabric, the sonic landscapes of Ricardo Villalobos, Perlon, James Holden, and other high-quality artists including the raw energy of Detroit and Chicago that her true musical odyssey began. It was a transformative year-long backpacking odyssey through Southeast Asia that set Solana on her path. Amidst the majestic Austrian Alps, she found herself amidst a vibrant community of UK ravers, immersed in the pulsating heartbeat of dance music culture. For fourteen years, Solana meticulously curated her sonic palette collecting records, drawing inspiration from deep house to dub techno, microhouse to drum 'n bass. Her journey was one of collector to selector, as she danced through legendary venues like Berghain, Club Der Visionaere, Robert Johnson, and other hallowed spaces. Yet, it's in the present moment that Solana finds her true calling. In 2023, she founded AIRPLANE MODE, a label and event series dedicated to fostering immersive experiences that transcend time and space. AIRPLANE MODE isn't just about the music; it's a movement, a philosophy urging all to embrace the present and savor each fleeting moment. Solana's DJ sets are a testament to her eclectic tastes and boundless creativity, weaving together diverse genres and rhythms. She has united dancers around the globe, playing at events hosted by Resolute, Robot Heart, Apollo Studio, Elegantly Wasted (Sofia), Meadows in the Mountains festival (Bulgaria), Black Rhino Radio (Bucharest), Golden Record, and H0L0. Join Solana on her journey as she spreads sunshine and joy through the power of music. Raised between Istanbul and New York City, Omer Bil, better known as O.BEE, has cultivated a musical palette that encompasses the two culture hubs and everything in between. Known for dancing in between different genres and styles, juggling the traditional and the avant-garde, O.BEE weaves together unknown yet familiar sonic landscapes, in a signature style that reflects his own musical identity; optimistic yet rebellious and filled by passion. Liberating the dance floor from the accustomed rules and stepping away from functional expectations, he instead cultivates musical trips for both the dancer and the listener, communicating with the north and south of the body, fueled with intellectual and sensual energy. During his formative years in New York City, O.BEE embarked on a multifaceted journey, characterized by both scholarly pursuits and immersive experiences on the dance floor. His academic path led him to study Contemporary Music at the prestigious New School in Manhattan, where he found himself among the finest jazz talents of his generation. Simultaneously, he delved into the vibrant nightlife scene as a resident DJ and avid participant at the renowned New York party series, ReSolute, where he honed his craft and deepened his connection to the dynamic energy within the city’s underground culture. In 2020 he launched Jigit, a collective and record label alongside Tomas Station and Asli Tunaman, serving as a platform for their creative output, encompassing original productions and selections from their inner circle. This multifaceted venture, comprising a record label, event series, and lifestyle brand, has garnered a devoted global following, thanks to its distinct artistic ethos. Also present on the larger stages of dance music, recent years have seen him perform in trendsetting festivals such as Houghton, Waking Life, Kappa Futur, Sunwaves and more. Maayan Nidam, also performing as THE WAVES is an artist in flux, continues to change, evolve and challenge boundaries both in her Berlin studio and on stage. She has built a reputation as a fine producer, live performer & DJ who favours a subtle approach towards mesmeric moments. Her DJ sets, predominantly based in stripped-back, deep sounds, utilise an intriguing vinyl collection, using obscure interludes for re-contextualisation. This approach makes for some magical moments on the dance-floor, where a night’s highlight may come from the most unlikely of tracks. As a musician obsessed about sound and the technology behind its creation, her workflow places a strong focus on the studio environment. Triggering chain reactions between guitar pedals, drum machines, modular synths and acoustic instruments, generating sounds in unpredictable, exciting ways. As THE WAVES, Maayan has developed a solo live set that allows her to further her studio experiments and take them on the road. With a flexibly evolving range of hardware, she re-creates the spontaneous frame of her productions, delving deep into the possibilities of live dubbing and improvisation, keeping the performance exciting for both the crowd and Maayan herself.Their RA profile lists Perlon, Wolf + Lamb, Powershovel Audio, Giegling and 3 more.Last at Jolene Sound Room Brooklyn in Dec 2023 · often with Jason Lindner, Thomas Melchior, André Galluzzi, none of them here that night
