“Michel Amato's contribution to electronic music can barely be overstated.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Michel Amato's contribution to electronic music can barely be overstated. As The Hacker, and under different aliases, he has inspired generations of dance music fans and artists. He continues to perform at the very top of his game, constantly evolving and challenging himself with boundary-pushing projects. Coming from the French city of Grenoble, Amato spent his younger years absorbing futuristic Techno sounds from Detroit, bands like Depeche Mode, New Order, Kraftwerk and Front 242, as well as Italo Disco and Acid House. Given the breadth of his influences, it’s no surprise Amato's own discography defies simple definition, covering a wide range of styles in the years since his first release in 1996. Traversing zeitgeists, Amato had a Techno phase, dipped into EBM, sci-fi tinged Electro and New Wave, but is perhaps most famous as a founding father of Electroclash. Peaking at the turn of the millennium, Electroclash fused technoid rhythms with humorous punk and synth-pop sensibilities. Amato met a kindred spirit in Miss Kittin and together they became of one the most iconic duos in electronic music. Her vocals proved the perfect match for his productions, lending them a certain accessibility and new found audience. Kittin's deadpan delivery brought flair to Electroclash hits such as ‘Champagne’ (1998) and ‘Frank Sinatra’ (2000); DJ Hell released the tracks, as well as numerous other Hacker & Kittin productions, on his seminal International Deejay Gigolo imprint. Managing to incorporate elements of popular music without ever sacrificing their authenticity, Amato and Miss Kittin sold hundreds of thousands of records and gained worldwide recognition. In 2004, Amato released his most well-recieved album to date, ‘Rêves Mécaniques’. Largely a solo record, it was a return to the more eerie and edgy, instrumental sound he had pursued in his early years. The album showed that, in the right hands, even this ice-cold, ravy, Acid sound was fit for the charts. The years since wtinessed Amato put out a wide array of his own club mutations, whilst working on remixes, a DVD containing interviews and live footage, mix CDs and his label GoodLife. Today, he is as in-demand as ever. A highly-acclaimed LP, ‘Le Théâtre Des Opérations’, on Dark Entries in 2017 recalled the tough sound of his early works but with more modern production and fresh ideas. The currently thriving, young Electro and EBM underground consider Amato as a master of his craft and many of his older tracks are becoming classics. He has drawn the attention from tastemakers like Helena Hauff, Erol Alkan and Veronica Vasicka for contributions to their labels, released a new collaboration with Miss Kittin and been commissioned to remix both Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode and DJ Hell. In the live and DJ environment, Amato is as revered as he is on record. His set up has taken many forms over the years, largely centred around classic hardware such as the Korg MS 20, the Roland TR 808 and SH 101. His new live project (called ‘Amato’) is a 100% analog, return to his roots that has been presented at venues and festivals such as Dekmantel, Berghain, Nuits Sonores and Off Sonar. It’s a testament to the consistently high quality of Amato’s work and his visionary nature that he remains such a well-respected pillar of electronic music, with his timeless musical innovations continuing to rock dance floors worldwide.
Their RA profile lists International DeeJay Gigolo Records, Turbo Recordings, Mental Groove, Different and 6 more.

“Adam X’s illustrious music career first came about in 1990 in Brooklyn, NYC where he was born and raised.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Adam X’s illustrious music career first came about in 1990 in Brooklyn, NYC where he was born and raised. His earliest productions were released during this period and he soon gained momentum as one of the most adept DJ’s on the global underground techno scene. Alongside pioneer and brother Frankie Bones he also opened the doors of Groove Records in Brooklyn as America’s first true outlet for underground electronic music with a direct focus on the techno genre. The Groove Records team would also take part in organizing the first techno events to ever take place in NYC, including the legendary Storm Rave that started in 1991. Storm Rave was the first all-techno warehouse parties organized on the East Coast of America and the line-ups included many up-and-coming artists who would go on to become global techno cult figures. The Sonic Groove label was born in 1995 at the upgraded Manhattan location of the shop ( also having changed name from Groove Records to Sonic Groove during the transition ). Adam continues to operate the label in an exemplary and innovative way with over 100 releases to date. Primarily a vinyl focused label and including digital distribution, the discography’s current core roster is a mix of EBM and Industrial legends Monolith, Orphx, Rhys Fulber, and Fixmer / McCarthy as well as modern day techno heavyweights Dasha Rush, The Panacea, Blush Response and Max Durante. A unique perspective and acute knowledge of the music can be recognized in his DJ and live sets which have always retained a unique sense of an un-compromised approach to the dance floor, keeping with the sanctity of breaking new boundaries in sound and evolving with an edge of genre defiance and auditory cross-pollination. Adam’s approach facilitated acid techno’s dominance in the early to mid nineties and he nearly single handedly put the Industrial and EBM Techno cross-over genres on the contemporary map. His Traversable Wormhole, ADMX-71, The Secret Initiative, Mass-X-Odus and X-Crashed side-projects along with his collaboration with co-conspirator U.K. based artist Perc with their project AX&P, have all strongly impacted the most discerning audiences. Adam X has also released his own work on his seminal imprint as well as releases on some of the most essential labels to exist both past and present such as, Wax Trax!, Direct Drive, Magnetic North, Peacefrog, Drop Bass Network, CLR, Hands Productions as well as preeminent contemporary labels Aufnahme + Wiedergabe, L.I.E.S and Hospital Productions. Adam currently resides in the electronic music capital of the world Berlin, Germany. With unparalleled dedication his activities never cease as he continues his individual tradition of operating on every vital level from label activity to organizing events in the legendary Tresor club and performing in the some of the worlds most credible venues which he has been doing since the early 90’s. Adam X Is a true force whose contribution has reached far into bringing the future forward for electronic music.

From Paris and Berlin to Lisbon, Marrakech and Indonesia - Christian has paved his way around the world into the ranks of selectors ushering in the electronic renaissance you see here before you. With backgrounds in fashion, fine & culinary arts - Tokyo’s idea of a dance floor could be compared to a painting or a well plated dish. His sound is comprised of deep emotion & strategic choices ranging from velvety House to magnetic Techno, warped Breaks and all in between the spectrum of dance music. Christian Tokyo has graced all but a few clubs here in New York - from Bronx house parties to the edge of Ridgewood. Now retiring a 3 year long run of weekly parties at NYC’s cherished bar - Home Sweet Home; Tokyo moves on to focus his time and energy on playing in more countries, building a namesake party in NYC and releasing forthcoming independent projects of his own. Having already been featured on video & radio platforms (NTS, Rinse, Lot Radio etc.) and already performing alongside newer artists and classic NYC legends like the Bronx’s world renowned duo the Martinez Brothers and James Blake (to name a few) Tokyo continues to step forward as a premier selector in a new wave of DJs firmly taking up sonic arms to represent their hometowns. Being raised out of a musical household with mentors from iconic underground New York City parties and establishments from young (The Loft & Limelight) solidified Christian's interest and dedication to his role in continuing the history of dance music. Expanding community around dance music and holding space for new and older members is Tokyo’s ultimate goal and if you’ve been fortunate enough to make his acquaintance at least just once - one would fully understand. Head to his bandcamp and soundcloud and experience the sound at the links above!
