their own biography
the whole biography
A lifelong cartoonist and graphic designer, a young Oldham published his own indie comic book "Johnny Gambit" in 1987 to local notoriety. Hired that same year by his childhood friend Derrick May to illustrate several memorable pieces for his new Transmat label, this led to Oldham's very first involvement in the fledgling techno scene. More art requests quickly followed, most famously from the Djax-Up-Beats label (NL), where his art took center stage for many years (the lone EP that Oldham produced for Djax, under the name Signal To Noise Ratio, brought home a 1991 Detroit Metro Times Music Award for best single in "Detroit Is Burning"). At the same time, college-student Oldham was hired at local radio station WDET, hosting Detroit's first-ever all-electronic radio program, "Fast Forward," introducing artists like UR, Richie Hawtin and Carl Craig to local airwaves. Five years later, Oldham found himself under the tutelage of UR's Mad Mike Banks. Initially hired as UR's "Minister of Information," working side-by-side with Rob Hood and others in the office, Oldham was eventually tapped to replace his departing friend Jeff Mills as DJ on UR's world tour (quitting WDET in the process), and DJ T-1000 (and his label Generator, distributed by Submerge) was born. Big shoes to fill, but he was up to the task. For a year afterwards, Oldham toured with Banks in the UR techno boot camp. Since those long-ago days, a solo Oldham continues to rock crowds in Berlin (with an unofficial residency at Tresor), Milan, Barcelona (unofficial residency at Moog), Madrid, London, Tel Aviv, Tokyo and all points in between with his own no-nonsense brand of bangin', funky-ass techno. When DJ T-1000 is on the flyer, fans know he's bringing the ruckus. In 2004, Oldham finally left a flagging Motor City for the Midwest boomtown of Chicago. And in 2005 he finally established his permanent European base in the world's latest electronic music capital, Berlin. When he's not behind the decks or in the studio producing electronic dance music for labels like Tresor Berlin, Inzec (CH), Minimalsoul (CH), or his own Pure Sonik and Generator imprints, Oldham has provided artwork for the electronic music industry for almost 20 years. Also, his drawings and large-scale paintings have been on display in art galleries in Chicago, Berlin, Paris, Los Angeles, and most recently a sold-out opening in Amsterdam.Their RA profile lists React Records, Astralwerks, BPitch, Tresor and 6 more.Recently at public records · often with Alan Oldham, TRESOR, GLOBUS, none of them here that night

Brooklyn has been pretty popular around here lately and for good reason… these djs live that shit, that vibe, those parties, it’s almost every single weekend there’s an underground rave happening somewhere so things haven’t quite changed much since the 90s, that’s for sure. Born in Brooklyn New York, Clarence grew up in sheep's head Bay Brooklyn in the early 90s. Went to his first Storm Rave and this would start him on this journey just like many of us here. He Started DJing at the age of 15, while many other kids were busy doing anything BUT that. He was different, he chose a different path he says… “My first official gig was at a club called The Purple Lounge on Sheepshead bay Road, And then I started doing little after parties”. This love affair that he soon discovered with real techno would eventually send him throughout the city to buy vinyl, wherever he could get his hands on it and it always led him to Sonic Groove in Brooklyn at the time (owned by Frankie Bones and Co). There was also a shop on King's Highway called Music Factory where they always had the best deals on budget vinyl there. After getting his collection racked up, he was now known as Mr. Faust 999 and just like anyone else here reading this, that was a VERY special time for New York City and for what we do, now considered just vast memories and dreams if we are even lucky to say that. For those who know him, his sound is heavily influenced by the artist of that time… Jeff Mills, Kevin Saunders, Frankie Bones, Oscar Mulero, also some 90s Synthpop and Darkwave, Portishead, Depeche Mode, Nizer Ebb, Switchblade Symphony and also a splash of Rock influences like Bad Brains, Nirvana, Green Jelly, and Danzig... so we see where that dark, nightime tone comes from. His approach to techno is more of a hypnotic one/classical chords paired up with a little house and soul. “My collective inspiration derives From many factors, Current events, Life changes, And personal growth...” when asked what he thought about the future of techno- “The current minimal and dark sounds coming out of Madrid, Barcelona and Portugal Have caught my attention as of late And it's truly motivating and ahead of its time...” Mr. Faust 999 currently produces music and its out on all streaming platforms, he is currently signed to Downside Up Records. Being affiliated with various different groups from New York and New Jersey, he’s able to skip up and down north east rocking parties from clubs to hole-in-the-walls, to seedy afterhours and raves. You can find him on Spotify, Bandcamp just to name a few. His new release “Cyber Intercourse” is recently out now on Beatport as well.Their RA profile lists Downside Up Recordings and Techno Parade.Recently at Bossa Nova Civic Club, Dolso's · often with Freaky Frank, Foodstampz, Kory, none of them here that night
