the whole biography
Lauren Flax has been a lifelong musician, starting to play the drums at 8 years old before continuing on to guitar and bass in high school. She began her DJ career in the underground dance and rave scenes of Detroit as a resident at the Motor Lounge, playing every Tuesday night along with resident DJs Mike Servito, DJ Dilemma, Jason Kendig, and Derek Plaslaiko. Flax played the very first Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000 on the Motor stage. While originally starting off as a jungle DJ, Flax evolved her style into a variety techno, house, and electro music. Flax moved to Chicago in 1999, where she honed in on music production while continuing to DJ. By 2002, she relocated again to Manhattan, which shortly followed the release of her first remix, "Much Finer" for Le Tigre. In 2018, Flax was introduced to DJ Haus by fellow Detroit musician and friend Jimmy Edgar, to which he quickly signed a record, resulting in "Dance Trax Vol. 16" (2018). In 2019, Flax joined the mostly Detroit-born New York collective The Bunker New York,[1] on which she released "One Man’s House is Another Woman’s Techno EP" (2019). The EP was highly successful and sold out quickly. Flax met with Brooklyn-based record label 2MR in 2019, curious to explore beyond the realm of dance music. She remixed 'Breathe' by label-mate Pale Blue, and that ended up inspiring Flax's new style of music. After the remix was released, Flax took to writing a 6 track EP, merging genres of ambient, acid house, and much more, set to come out in Summer 2021. Flax started touring the United States and Europe as a solo artist in 2019, performing live analog sets, pushing the boundaries of what a DJ is defined as.House on 39, Techno on 22, Acid House on 13 and Electro on 17. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on WRKTRX (3), Aliens On Wax (1) and House Of Efunk Records (1); their RA profile also lists Defected Records, !K7, Toolroom Records, Nervous Records and 6 more. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at Superior Ingredients, Good Room, H0L0 · often with Sevyn 0000, Austin Kunis, Costume Design, none of them here that night

TOMMIE SUNSHINE: "[Tommie Sunshine] just might be the guy who could make dance music fun and important again this year..." Paper, 2006 Influenced by equal parts of Kraftwerk, AC/DC, and Farley Jackmaster Funk, mid-west rave legend and Brooklyn, NY resident Tommie Sunshine is raising the bar. Covering ground as artist, remixer, producer, vocalist, radio jock, label owner, DJ and songwriter and with his legendary hybrid of live performance and DJ sets now traveling the globe it wont be long before there will be, at least a little, Tommie Sunshine in your life. "Need big-room house mixes of Sarah Conner or Andy Hunter? Check. How about a rock-house hybrid for The Stills? Got it. Gary Glitter shuffle-beat for Good Charlotte? Not a problem. And lets not get started on the weird quirky techno. All of this is leading Sunshine somewhere. Perhaps as a producer with a platinum record on his wall." DJ Times Magazine, 2005 His studio collaborations have included Felix Da Housecat, James Murphy, Arthur Baker, Mylo and DJ Hell; he has played everywhere from Hong Kong to Reykjavik. As an established remixer, Tommie (alongside long time collaborator Mark Verbos) has been requested to retouch work from a diverse list that includes Louis XVI, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Good Charlotte, Kid Alex, Princess Superstar, Elvis Presley, Fallout Boy, Gang of Four, My Robot Friend, The Killers, Da Brat, P.O.D., Fischerspooner, The Faint, Kill Hannah, Ima Robot, Ladytron and Avril Lavigne. Furthermore, major fashion houses have asked Tommie for his deck time such as Versace, Raf Simons, Chanel, Xavier Delcour and Jeremy Scott Beverly Hills. Tommies original music has also been featured in a film by designer Jeremy Scott; NY hotel Tribeca Grands website, Blockbuster Video radio spots, a cd advertisement for the fashion label Chanel and on the CBS show Without A Trace. His work was also featured in Entertainment Tonights coverage of the Academy Awards, as well as the Hollywood release Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Not one to wait for innovative outlets for his music, his tunes have been in video games such as NBA 2K6 which features an unreleased track titled And Then as well as Need For Speed: Underground 2. Now with all this under his belt, Tommie is setting the international stage for the release of his debut album to hit next year, prefaced by his first compilation CD coming fall 2005 After six years in Georgia where he ran Satellite Records - Atlanta and held down two residencies at Club Sol and Fusion, he moved back to Chicago for four years establishing club nights ElectroSweat and Degeneration. He also held down the position of promotional director of the Midwest dance mecca Dust Traxx and being named in URB magazines Next 100. As a member of Thee Maddkatt Courtship with longtime collaborator Felix Da Housecat, Tommie co-produced "Cosmic Pop" for ffrr/London Records and worked again with Felix & Miss Kittin - co writing Silver Screen, Happy Hour and Glitz Rock - on the award winning 2002 Kittenz & Thee Glitz LP. Thom Yorke of Radiohead is quoted in URB Magazine saying, That should have been fucking number one all over the world. The single "Silver Screen (Shower Scene)" continues to be a dancefloor classic around the world years after release. The duo returned to the studio again for the single Rocket Ride which is co-produced and co-written, as well as the track Everyone Is Someone In LA. Tommie also worked with International Deejay Gigolo records supremo DJ Hell and DFAs James Murphy on Hells NY Muscle LP. "...Sunshines quirky ear, knack for being ahead of the curve and an enthusiasm bordering on the obsession for music cant be understated." DJ Times, 2005 His long history in the mid west rave scene made him a major source for those who wanted to learn more about the underground dance culture. He wrote the preface to Mireille Silcotts novel, Rave America and his knowledge on all things centric to this particular music cycle earned him an appearance in Peter Jennings Reporting on ABC, two separate BBC documentaries on House Music as well as the just out on DVD rave documentary Rise and featured DJing in Billy Corgans post smashing-Pumpkins band Zwans video for the song Lyric He has also been establishing his own presence as A&R and label owner with xylophone jones Recordings to include a cast of shocking newcomers alongside well established artists and Tommie himself. His xylophone jones Recordings Showcase at WMC 2004 was named by URB Magazine as the number 2 event of Conference in between Ultra Music Festival and BBC Radio 1 Essential Selection. ). 2004 also brought Tommie to radio, doing a monthly feature on XM Channel 80: The Move - nominated for a DanceStar award in 2004. 2005 proved to be the year of expose for Tommie, as his face graced both DJ Times and URB Magazines covers. He then went on to win Best DJ of Hong Kong 05, which in turn got him his first International Residency at Hong Kongs famous nightclub Volar. “DIESELBOY – THE DESTROYER!”
their own biography
the whole biography
DIESELBOY – THE DESTROYER! At a time when headline "DJs" shamelessly play pre-programmed or pre-recorded sets and the masses mindlessly embrace the charade, Dieselboy stands out as a rare veteran of the art and craft of live DJing. His focus on creating complex and unique mixes every performance have created legions of fans around the world. Very few artists mix live on three decks with more precision, intensity or finesse. For over two decades one of the world’s great ambassadors of drum ‘n’ bass and more recently dubstep, Dieselboy, also known as Damian Higgins, is America’s most iconic underground bass music curator and pioneer. He was the first drum ‘n’ bass artist to chart a single on Billboard’s dance chart with “Invid” in 2000, and the first American voted into the UK-based Drum & Bass Arena Top 10 DJs online poll in 2004. He has appeared on magazine covers, been heard on MTV, ESPN and numerous video games, and sponsored by DC Shoes and Pioneer Pro DJ. In 2002 Dieselboy founded Human Imprint, North America’s most prolific, dynamic and innovative drum ‘n’ bass label, and is co-founder of dubstep/electro label SubHuman, both now under the umbrella of Planet Human. Planet Human is beloved by its fans for top quality high energy releases by international vanguard artists including Bare (US), Mark Instinct (Canada), Mayhem (US), Muffler (Finland), Nerd Rage (US), Nightwalker (UK), NumberNin6 (US), Pixel Fist (UK), Subshock (Spain), and Zardonic (Venezuela). Dieselboy’s legacy is one of trailblazing dancefloor devastation non-stop on the international club circuit as well as at major global music festivals including Bonnaroo, Coachella, SXSW, Electric Daisy Carnival, US Virgin Mobile FreeFest, Detroit Electronic Music Festival, Summerfest, Ultra Music Festival, Shambhala (Canada), Global Gathering (UK), Creamfields (Poland), Pirate Station (Russia), Jisan Valley Rock Festival (Korea), and PHAT 09 (New Zealand). He also toured with Moby’s Area2 and played metal concerts with Orgy and Disturbed. Dieselboy’s DJ career began in northwest Pennsylvania DJing high school dances, and progressed as a University of Pittsburgh student learning to beat-match vinyl live on college radio and playing trance, happy hardcore and breaks at house parties. His 1994 mixtape “The Future Sound of Hardcore” led to out of town bookings and his ensuing popularity and skills led to the honor of being the first American asked by a British drum ‘n’ bass label to mix a compilation (“Drum & Bass Selection USA,” 1996). In 1997 Dieselboy moved to Philadelphia becoming drum ‘n’ bass buyer and T-shirt designer for seminal rave culture/record store 611. In 1998 Dieselboy was the first American drum ‘n’ bass DJ to be nominated for Best Drum & Bass DJ at the Global DJ Mix Awards and tied with LTJ Bukem. From 1998 to 2004 Dieselboy hosted North America’s premiere drum ‘n’ bass weekly “Platinum” at Fluid. A passionate connoisseur of food, books and film, Dieselboy has continuously raised the bar for mixtapes and mixed CD compilations as art forms, and each from 1992 to his February 2012 tour de force “Wake The Dead” stands the test of time. State of the art showcases of producers and graphic artists of each respective era, Dieselboy’s mixes have been described as “cinematic” and “intoxicating.” Dieselboy’s goal in creating “Wake The Dead” was “to make the most intricate, layered, nuanced, amazing drum ‘n’ bass mix ever done. Period.” In its dramatic intro (a Dieselboy signature) the narrator describes a soul-crushing epidemic of epic proportions – a thinly veiled reference to the death of the art of DJing – a theme that has resonated amongst his DJ/producer colleagues and fans and beyond. An inspiration for generations of DJs, Dieselboy’s longevity and relevance in a mercurial industry is a tribute to his relentless drive to create “amazing” experiences for his fans in their iPods and at his legendary live shows. Dieselboy fans praise his skills as “genius.” Says The Destroyer: “I don’t fuck around.”Drum n Bass on 85, Dubstep on 5, Jungle on 13 and Electro on 4. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on Human Imprint Recordings (2), PRSPCT Recordings (1) and mariteaux.somnolescent (1); their RA profile also lists System Recordings. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at The Woodshop, Xanadu, Roberta's · often with Agent 137, Dave Shichman, Reid Speed, none of them here that night

the whole biography
Producer / DJ / Label Owner Lenny Dee is one of NYC’s earliest techno and house pioneers. He produced classic UK chart-hitting techno with Frankie Bones (as Looney Tunes), Victor Simonelli (for Nu Groove and Def Mix) and Tommy Musto – including their ‘Fallout’ track – now heard on the video game ‘Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’. Early on, Lenny worked at Skyline Studios (at the time home of Nile Rodgers), and at Arthur Baker’s Shakedown Studio’s on productions for New order, Brooklyn Funk Essentials, and Al Jarreau among others. He then attacked Europe with the then new sound of Techno and in 1991 launched Industrial Strength Records – the first electronic ‘Hardcore’ label in the world that’s included music from Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Laurent Garnier, Manu Le Malin, Angerfist, Corrosion of Conformity, Daft Punk, Neophyte, Unexist, DOA, The Sickest Squad, Nasenbluten and many more. Lenny has also written and produced hundreds of tracks on labels such as 4th floor, Warner Bros, Strictly Rhythm, R&S, Music Man, Atlantic Records, Arista, XL Recordings, Gigilo, Rotterdam Records, ID &T and Stay Up Forever. “Superstar DJ Keoki arrived on the mainland with forty records, a bag full of clothes and $200 in his pocket, without the slightest idea he would become a key figure in a groundbreaking social movement.”

the whole biography
Superstar DJ Keoki arrived on the mainland with forty records, a bag full of clothes and $200 in his pocket, without the slightest idea he would become a key figure in a groundbreaking social movement. An artist whose music would shred the sonic spectrum for a digital generation, jonesing to transcend the old ways, Keoki was destined to make a name for himself. Born in El Salvador, raised on Maui and nicknamed for the mysterious bastard son of a legendary Hawaiian king, Keoki arrived on the mainland US in the late eighties. Landing a job with TWA in New York enabled Keoki the opportunity to travel the world for free, but it was while moonlighting as a busboy at Danceteria, a hot Manhattan nightclub, that Keoki saw the sights and heard the sounds that would change his life and perhaps the future of pop music. Fascinated by the powerful connection a DJ could make with a crowd, Keoki himself began to play records, putting his own distinctive spin on other artists music. Flamboyant as hell, he dubbed himself “Superstar DJ” Keoki. “…I wore a jeweled crown, big furry collars and gold chains,” he recalls with a laugh. “It was a gimmick, but the fun of it really caught fire”. Though it started as a lark, “Superstar DJ” Keoki quickly became sought after by Manhattan’s underground trendsetters and socialites alike, Keoki was now known as "The DJ to the Stars!”. He worked legendary parties for the likes of Lou Reed, Deborah Harry, Drag Queen icon RuPaul and The B-52’s. “…All the glamorous stars and creatures of New York were there”, he says. The former baggage handler soon became a jetting-setting commodity, performing to capacity audiences across America and overseas. His was a sonic sleight-of-hand in which funk could meet punk, and where a barking Scooby Doo would mix perfectly with a ranting Jimmy Swaggert. He continued to discover dramatic new ways to keep a crowd in the palm of his hands. “…New York really showed me that I could draw on anything around me and make something of it”, he says. “There were just no limits”. By the early nineties the underground dance music scene had swelled to a critical mass. The rave scene in America was born and as one of the first traveling DJs, Keoki was propelled into the limelight. Through his numerous performances at Los Angeles raves, Keoki caught the attention of Steve Levy, president of Moonshine Music. Keoki's personality, flamboyance and glaring musical talent led to Keoki and Moonshine joining forces. Although signed as a recording artist, his immediate skills lay in his DJ-ing ability, and as a result, a series of top selling DJ mix albums including “Superstar DJ Keoki –All Mixed Up” and “Disco Death Race 2000” were released. Between discs and sold out performances, Keoki began crafting original material. Keoki’s message began to shine as brightly as a welder’s arc. “…This generation, this rave culture is so highly intuitive, that communicating to them through pure sound is absolutely possible”, he states. “…but since I had their attention, I figured why not take it a little farther and give them a story, a theme?” Keoki the pied piper was born. For his first single, Keoki teamed with co-producer Dave Aude for what has evolved into an incredible artist and producer journey; it was then that “Caterpillar” was created and released in early 1996. It featured the catchy “I just can’t cope without my dope” hook that made a playful mockery of drug abuse. Blazing to #3 on the Billboard Dance Chart, the song earned Keoki a spot on that summer's Lollapalooza tour and was even featured in an episode of The Simpsons. The follow-up single, “Majick” was released in January 1997 as a precursor to the almost finished “Ego Trip” full length LP. With lyrics suggesting that the communal euphoria which his audience sought, could only come from the “magic” within themselves. It too, rocketed up the charts. Having moved from New York to Los Angeles (via Denver), Keoki's album was now in motion. Three months later,“Ego Trip” was completed. It was nothing less than a stunning leap, even for someone whose name is already synonymous with breathtaking invention. From the harrowing, multi-layered track “Madness” to the stellar hit singles “Caterpillar” and “Majick,” to the aural sex drive of “Space”, Ego Trip’s 10 songs are a seamless musical excursion that carry the listener effortlessly from one hook to the next. With its trance-inducing synth-lines, mega-ballistic breakbeats and carbonated vocals, Ego Trip crackles with energy. Ego Trip was the first full-length album of original material by Keoki, a performer who, until then, had been mainly recognized as one of America's premiere electronic music mix masters. Whether you're a longtime fan or completely new to the form, this is an aural experience the likes of which you cannot imagine. Built from the underground up, Ego Trip is like a wild and wonderful funhouse ride, an album in which Keoki injects everything he has. Ego Trip is the culmination of Keoki’s unique audio odyssey that began decades ago. the Superstar DJ pouring everything he has ever learned about sound and its ability to captivate into the album’s very core. Every generation produces a key performer who, by the sheer force of their talent and personality, pushes a new artform into mass acceptance. For the increasingly influential realm of electronic music, Keoki is that key, and Ego Trip his breakthrough. “…This is the beginning”, he says, “of a whole new kind of musical expression”. With over two million records sold... (Limelight, Party Monster, Ego Trip) and regular listings on the top of the dance charts, Keoki has evolved into a record spinner of international renown, the charismatic Bad Boy of Techno, a figurehead of the vital and often controversial Rave movement, and can even claim Bart Simpson (who enjoys his music on one of the episodes) among his fans.Their RA profile lists Moonshine, Astralwerks, Interscope Records and Play Records.often with Frankie Bones, Dank, Joeski, none of them here that night

Travis Kavovit, aka "Travisty" has spent the last 17 years perfecting his craft and honing his skills around the tri-state area. His wide musical interests keep him from being pigeonholed into any one genre, he mixes, cuts, and blends a broad range of musical styles while keeping heads nodding and bodies moving, creating an eclectic party-rocking experience. He has held residencies and played the biggest venues all over New York City, currently he is a resident DJ at Cafe Noir in Tribeca. He has opened for a long list of talent including such artists as DJ Icey, Huda Hudia, DJ Funk, Freq Nasty, Paul Johnson, Charles Feelgood, Scottie B, Rob Swift. Equally at home in front of packed dance floors as he is in an intimate lounge, he is known as much for his unique musical selections as the seamless way he weaves it all together. Travisty thrives on expanding his musical knowledge and is in an endless search for new music and styles to keep even the most cynical party goers shaking it on the dance floor. His sets traverse a broad spectrum of styles - forward thinking underground sounds, familiar classics, hip hop, club-bangers, rock, and much more - all blended together to perfection. His energy behind the decks is contagious as he dances just as hard as anyone on the dance floor, so whether at a club, lounge, house party, or rave, having Travisty on the 1's and 2's is a guarantee for a booty shaking great time.Recently at Eris, Our Wicked Lady · often with Defkon, VinTage, AirwolfBK, none of them here that night
