Electric is the only way to describe Andi’s sets. The NYC-based DJ, producer, and SYNTHICIDE label/party boss constructs a dynamic and intoxicating flow that’s always palpable between the walls of the foggy, neon-lit dancefloor. Parts sleaze and sultry, Andi’s aesthetic is body music based, thriving on the delivery of the groove and the bombastic highs of a track’s apex. As a devotee of distinct sounds such as EBM, new beat, Italo, freestyle and housey 90s elements, her sets reflect her deep vinyl collection: diverse, yet focused, and completely one-of-a-kind. Her own productions aim to challenge the expectations within the confines of traditionally masculine dance genres. With bassline-heavy grooves and a conceptual emphasis on storytelling with samples taken from long-forgotten erotic thrillers and seedy sci-fi films, Andi adds a wry yet delicate touch to machine music. As the boss of SYNTHICIDE—the internationally known party, label and event series—Andi has cultivated the dark underground scene for over a decade in Brooklyn. SYNTHICIDE started at the notorious club in Bushwick, Bossa Nova Civic Club, where the party still holds a monthly residency. Additionally, Andi is a resident at The Lot Radio and NYC’s Gabriela.EBM on 13, Techno on 9, Industrial on 7 and New Beat on 5. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on Eskimo Recordings (2), Dischi Autunno (1) and Surface Reality Records (1); their RA profile also lists Mannequin, aufnahme + wiedergabe, Mecanica, Synthicide and 1 more. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at Gabriela, Bossa Nova Civic Club, Libera · often with Eli Escobar, Arvin T, Facets, none of them here that night

the whole biography
REFRAKT is the alias of Ian Daly, an American producer and DJ based in New York City. Born in Flint, Michigan, Daly grew up in a musical family with the Detroit house scene as a backdrop. A classically-trained pianist, drummer, and guitarist, Daly pulls from this broad musical vocabulary to bring melodic hooks, interlocking rhythms, and complex textures to his tracks. His music bears the influence of his travels and exposure to unique musical styles and instruments, including Brazilian and African music, Persian classical music, Indian ragas, and the Balinese gamelan (which Daly has performed in). Prior to his work in music production, Daly spent more than a decade as a journalist at International publications such as Details, Esquire, Wired, and The New York Times and spend six years working in strategy at Live Nation, the largest live entertainment company in the world. REFRAKT is signed to Phisica and his recent “False Memories” EP charted in the top 20 on Beatport (Indie Dance genre). His next EP, Hidden Temple, will be released 11/23 on Emerald & Doreen. Daly has performed around the world, from New York City (House of Yes) and Los Angeles, to Berlin (Neue Odessa, Georgia Bar, Crackers), and Tulum (Ahau, Panamera, Radio Tulum, Nü, Delek).
