“Watching Cassy eagerly dive into her record collection is a joy.”
their own biography
the whole biography
Watching Cassy eagerly dive into her record collection is a joy. Away from the transcendent spaces she continues to play at most weekends, her vinyl-digging series Talking About My Records on Instagram gives ample opportunity to engage with her endearing excitability. Its concept being spurred by moving back home to Austria and reconnecting with a stacked vinyl stash, you can feel the buzz gained from rediscovering lost gems and rinsed B-sides. Keen to share this experience with whoever’s watching, what makes this series stand out is the sense that Cassy’s enthusiasm and faithfulness to the music that fuels club culture has been revived. We’re seeing the beginning of a new era for Cassy. Given that her trailblazing career surpasses two decades, a serious reset to recalibrate should be expected. She’s lived in Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, London, New York and LA; worked at iconic record store Hard Wax; held residencies at hallowed clubs Panorama Bar, Trouw, Output, DC-10 for Circo Loco, Rex Club, Amnesia for Cocoon, and Pacha with her own night in the Pachacha room; taken in massive festivals and heaving basements the world over; contributed to the seminal mix series from Panorama Bar, fabric and Cocoon; dropped records on Perlon, Aus, K7!, Ostgut Ton, Cocoon Recordings and Bass Culture; and launched her record label Kwench Records featuring EPs from Fred P, Demuir, Ian Pooley, Kristen Velvet, Chris Carrier, Art Alfie, Amir Alexander and Steve Bug. In 2020, Cassy tapped out, moving to Austria with her mother and son. Getting distance from the challenges of the scene and learning to rest was needed. It’d be a drum & bass set with Ray Keith via a live stream by London club FOLD that did some of the work to lure her back. Cassy’s return would be further cemented by record digging sessions with her unearthed collection, pulling out tracks from Ron Hardy, Regis, Mike Dunn, Tin Man, Étienne de Crécy and Terrence Dixon, among many more. Making her debut in South Korea, fulfilling an urge to spend more time in Buenos Aires, throwing herself back into Berlin’s bubble, playing at Heideglühen,ELSE, Renate and Panorama bar, Cassy is future-focussed with an outlook that she’s here to enjoy DJing anew. “There’s fresh audiences out there to connect with, and that excites me,” Cassy explains. “I feel like I better understand my job description. I better appreciate what the moment needs and I’m less concerned with what records I have to play to keep my reputation intact. We can be too critical of ourselves. As Larry Levan advised, drop the ego. Let’s keep it real.” Flip through the two EPs that she released in 2023 on her label Kwench Records, and you’ll get a good feeling of where she’s at with her confidence as a producer and label head. On E.T. Ascension, Cassy utilises Roland’s 808 and her computer in a bid to honour her roots. Eager to strip it back to the basics, sending waves into the past when she was living in Berlin using that exact minimalist setup, she’d feel connected with herself again. “It’d been a long time since I’d used an 808. It was nice to revisit these feelings using the machine, lean into my weirdness in producing music and also use my vocals. I’m super proud of this record. It gives me that kick to get more and more creative with every release.” Ultimately, Cassy has liberated herself from the pressures of blasting through a checklist according to whatever the dominant standard may be. Representing herself in a true and sincere way is all that she demands.Their RA profile lists Cocoon Recordings, Turbo Recordings, Perlon, Diamonds & Pearls and 6 more.Recently at public records, H0L0 · often with Vera, Chris Stussy, Farida Bady, none of them here that night
“Fred P, also known as Black Jazz Consortium, is a pivotal figure in the deep house and electronic music landscape.”

the whole biography
Fred P, also known as Black Jazz Consortium, is a pivotal figure in the deep house and electronic music landscape. With over two decades of sonic exploration, his music transcends the dance floor, serving as both a personal and collective journey into introspection and transformation. Rooted in spirituality, authenticity, and innovation, Fred’s sound is a conduit for emotional resonance—a universal language designed to uplift and inspire. Born and raised in New York City, Fred’s formative years were shaped by the city’s vibrant underground scene, where the legacies of Larry Heard, Frankie Knuckles, and Strictly Rhythm’s golden era left an indelible mark. However, his artistry extends far beyond his influences. "My service is to the music, and the music is for the people," Fred once said—a testament to his ethos of creating with purpose and intention. His prolific catalog, including standout releases like States of Bliss, 6AM, and the Rhythms from the Road series, showcases his fearless blend of ambient textures, jazz inflections, and hypnotic house grooves. Through his labels—Soul People Music, Private Society, and the newly launched Collective Resource—Fred has cultivated spaces for sonic experimentation, offering everything from secret DJ weapons to deeply meditative compositions. Fred’s DJ sets are immersive experiences, known for their seamless storytelling and ability to guide dancers through reflective, soul-stirring territories. Whether performing at institutions like Panorama Bar, Tresor, or in intimate spaces around the world, he crafts atmospheres where music becomes a transformative force. His commitment to evolution is equally evident in projects like his long-form work Counterpoise, his subscriber-focused releases on Private Society, and the forthcoming live Black Jazz Consortium trio, blending electronics with organic instrumentation. After relocating to Berlin in 2012 and navigating the solitude of the pandemic, Fred found renewed clarity, deepening his connection to music and community. His post-lockdown work reflects this growth—raw, heartfelt, and infused with the wisdom of lived experience. Beyond the decks and the studio, his e-book Pathways To Sonic Alchemy delves into the philosophy behind his craft, offering insights into sound as both art and a tool for self-discovery. Fred P continues to stand as a beacon of integrity in electronic music—an artist whose sound is as timeless as it is transformative.Their RA profile lists fabric Records, Renaissance, NRK Music, Get Physical Music and 6 more.Recently at H0L0, public records, Jolene Sound Room Brooklyn · often with Morgan, Marie Lung, Lb Honne, none of them here that night

Native to New York, musclecars is a DJ / Producer duo consisting of Brandon Weems and Craig Handfield. As musicians, they equally share an admiration for the art form. Their desire to blend genres and express their appreciation for music is focused around their community- the end goal is to bring people together. Through a regular stream of high quality mixes and multiple outstanding releases, they’re constantly turning heads in underground circles. In 2018 they launched ‘Coloring Lessons’, a party that was aimed to add value to their city’s nightlife culture. While the party and sound is not genre specific, it is heavily focused around house, disco, jazz, and soul, embracing the musical elements of their black and brown ancestors. The monthly party's intention is to bring New York City's dance music scene back to what it was during the golden era of NY nightlife. They aim to spread the music that has been influential to them, and share it with a younger generation of their peers. In 2020 the pair launched the label Coloring Lessons Records. The label, like the party, is intended on building up artists from their city and beyond, with the sound indicative of the Coloring Lessons ethos- which is sharing music created and inspired by their ancestors of color, and teaching younger generations about the roots of this music.House on 20, Deep House on 18, Broken Beat on 3 and Future Jazz on 3. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on Brownswood Recordings (1), Love Injection Records (3) (1) and Luaka Bop (1); their RA profile also lists BBE and Toucan Sounds. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at Nowadays, Xanadu, public records · often with Toribio, Love Injection, moe., none of them here that night

the whole biography
I started out in a bar called Drama in Kreuzberg, which has been an important hang out for the scene and one of the first bars ever to feature its own djs at the weekend. The Drama has been one of the few locations featuring house music, instead of techno dominating all the other clubs and bars at that time. I used to play a lot of soulful vocal house and quickly became a resident at Globus/Tresor, as well as at the gay Saturdays at Café Moskau. „My motivation is and has been a mixture of fun and communication. Verbally as well as non-verbally. I love to create and play with different moods and atmospheres. I’m still fascinated by the fact that music can release a huge amount of energy and how music creates fun, jollying anyone along without any reason or principle. Music and bass in particular can make people happy!“ Since 1997, when I have been a resident at Globus/Tresor, I gradually opened up stylistically and didn’t feel the need anymore to go along the lines of the techno and house division. Since 2001 I regularly played at the gay/lesbian „Dance with the Aliens“ parties at the old OstGut and consequently at the end of 2004 I became a resident at the new Panorama Bar / Berghain. In the meantime I developed a varied style ranging from new and classic House to Techno including a lot of Disco, Afrobeats..... It is fundamental to my work as a DJ that I manage to let the music, the crowd and myself run freely. I have to turn off my head and go with the flow. This always is the challenge and if it works it is big fun. The crowd and i have to get kind of cosy with each other. And if I manage to build my set up and down, to go to lots of different places, it is perfect!Their RA profile lists Rabid Records, Diamonds & Pearls, Ostgut Ton, Hotflush Recordings and 1 more.Recently at Paragon, public records, Nowadays · often with Berghain, Virginia, Fadi Mohem, none of them here that night
