“His genre defying/defining production from Black Strobe, It’s A Fine Line, Smagghe & Cross and now Ivan & Johnny has connected him to and garnered the praise from the likes of Craig Richards, Vladimir Ivkovic, Paranoid London, Solar and of course, his long time friend Andrew Weatherall - all fellow crusaders in the fight to prove that electronic music is so much more than a one dimensional soundtrack for a night on the lash, and so much more than an Instagram account.”

His genre defying/defining production from Black Strobe, It’s A Fine Line, Smagghe & Cross and now Ivan & Johnny has connected him to and garnered the praise from the likes of Craig Richards, Vladimir Ivkovic, Paranoid London, Solar and of course, his long time friend Andrew Weatherall - all fellow crusaders in the fight to prove that electronic music is so much more than a one dimensional soundtrack for a night on the lash, and so much more than an Instagram account. In January 2020, Smagghe & Cross released their second LP, 1819, on Offen Music and are working on a new lp for the end of the 2025. Ivan & Johnny is his project with Quinn from Paranoid London, it will cater exclusively to the furthest corners of the dancefloors. After co-running the legendary french label and parties, “Kill The DJ,” Ivan washeading up his own imprint, “Les Disques De La Mort”; an outlet for a unique taste in music and spanning releases & remixes from long staples (Manfredas, Cosmo Vitelli, Marco Passarani, I-Cube, Red Axes, Roman Fluegel) & special new comers (Elles, Sworn Virgins, Zillas on Acid). LDDLM is a label that is always faithful to an instinctively recognisable “style of no style” and the refusal to be pigeonholed. Covid reframed the way of making and diffusing music : whilst thinking of reactivating some label action, Ivan has opened Amor Fati with Niv Arzi from Red Axes, a counterintuitive blog page giving away edits to whoever wants them. The collaboration between these two may take form in Customs & Faces, a new outlet and an Axes x Smagghe 12”. “Dresden”, the party/dj duo Ivan shares with Lithuanian legend Manfredas is a celebratory manifestation of Ivan’s ethos and has expanded from London & Vilnius residencies to world touring. Look out for their all-nighters (and their recordings), their t-shirt collabs with Magic Castles and soon, their not-so-functional club music. Ivan also has been transmitting on NTS, London’s Uber-cool London radio.Channeling, his much-loved show with Nathan Gregory Wilkins has kept strange music aficionados on their toes for more than ten years, You can catch Ivan subverting the masses any given weekend in clubs & festivals such as Lux/Lisbon, Nitsa/Barcelona, Rex/Paris, In Between/Los Angeles, Corsica Studios/London, DC10/IbizaNuits Sonores/Lyon, Love International/Croatia, Waking Life/Crato, Houghton/Norfolk and many other dens of iniquity worldwide.
Their RA profile lists fabric Records, Kill The DJ, The Flame Recordings, Live At Robert Johnson and 3 more.

  • Manfredas

    Lithuania

    “Manfredas.”

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Manfredas. The name packs a hefty punch. After years spent amassing knowledge as a radio DJ, he took his talents to the club, where he’s been convincing the unconvinced ever since. This man has a serious gift for throwing his every physical move hammering home the strength of his musical convictions. From the unique way he palms the jog wheel, to the ardent torque of his dancing, music feels a little more impactful in his midst. Manfredas’ ascent has been aided by musical cult leaders enthusiastically co-signing on his taste and talent. ‪Ivan Smagghe‬ championed his tracks on the LDDM label, aligning with his love of cold-wave-chug, electro-chug, and neo-trance-chug. Realizing which way the chug was blowing, Red Axes inducted him as the only non-Israeli in the Garzen crew, resonating with his uncanny sense of the bizarre and the beautiful. Meanwhile, global groove gurus Multi Culti harnessed his affinity for wild, off-kilter ethno-charms, encouraging the big guy to cool it with the booze, go healthy and maximize productivity. All have invited him on tour, and audiences around the world have been blown away by the epic b2bs, breathtaking b2b2bs, and miraculous b2b2b2bs. ‬ As one of the key residents and programmers at Opium Club in Vilnius, where he runs his clubnight "Smala", Manfredas has been instrumental in creating a culture that has led some mega-respected DJs to call it their favourite club in the world. The space feels like a feedback loop of love, dramatic intensity, and open-minded passion that draws everyone deeper into the music. Fact: the best DJs are always residents. Fact: Opium just might be the best club in existence. Logic dictates our man is a champ.

    their own biography

    the whole biography
Having immersed herself in Bristol’s music scene since arriving in the late 00s, she could reasonably be considered a product of the city’s unique creative culture. Let’s sidestep tired ideas about trip hop and D&B for a second and focus on the West Country capital as a hotbed of broadminded experimentation, with a community ethos and supportive framework that encourages talent to shine through. Stokes was already working within the music industry when she started to channel her passion into DJing – she was working at vital independent venue The Love Inn, one of the hubs of Bristol’s underground music culture, where she’s now the booking agent and venue manager. When the female / non-binary Mix Nights DJ course began (helmed by leading lights such as Danielle and Daisy Moon), Stokes found the right nurturing environment to discover her instinct for selecting and spinning, initiating a career which has grown exponentially ever since. In 2018 she became a resident at Bristol’s leading club space Motion, and played life-affirming slots at premier league events and spaces such as Glastonbury, Love International, Warehouse Project, Love Saves The Day, Corsica Studios and Simple Things. As well as her dancefloor presence, where she’s likely to be plying leftfield house and techno tinged with industrial and 90s motifs, Stokes has a regular radio outlet via Bristol’s leading station, Noods. It’s on these shows her tastes truly open up, touching on ambient techno and electronica, all manner of wave-related sonics, EBM and much more besides. It’s a non-conformist style that favours individual expression over generic consistency, championing the omnivorous spirit of the times and presenting selections that feel honest, heartfelt and constantly surprising. Stokes’ musical endeavours reach beyond her DJing too – she also helps steer the city’s much-loved queer dance party Bitch, Please! and came on board as a partner in Futureboogie, which will soon branch out into a new label project in the near future. Her keen ear for the unusual and distinctive shine through in these ventures as much as when she’s on the decks, rounding out her positive contributions to all corners of the music scene in Bristol and beyond. She may be representative of the city as it stands right now, but Ellie Stokes is just as much her own vital energy in a tangled network of scenes, communities, parties and platforms that stretches out internationally.
