In addition to holding down regular appearances at Basement, Nowadays, and Bossa Nova Civic Club, Lychee runs Spontaneous Affinity, a monthly mix and interview series and occasional event platform focused on how dancefloors have shaped artists, is part of the Antidote and Meridian event collectives, co-runs the label Unimatrix Zero, and is on the board for the Aslice Foundation. Lychee got their start as a radio DJ for WMFO, Tufts' college radio station, in 2007. Since starting to play out in 2012, they have played alongside artists like Takaaki Itoh, Objekt, Rrose, Legowelt, Claude Young, and Honey Soundsystem. In addition to playing out, Lychee has organized skillshare events, taught DJ workshops, and curated a speaker event about inclusivity in music technology. Long before he became the artist he is today, he was already listening deeply. Exploring scenes. Observing people. Absorbing stories. Born and raised in New Orleans, now living in Brooklyn, Leonce is uncompromising, blending elements of American Urban and Experimental Electronica, a hardline style that influenced his development as a producer. He co-founded the infamous Club Morph in 2016 and its electronic-hybrid imprint label Morph Tracks. DJs supporting Leonce’s tracks have included DJ Holographic, Fred again, Mochakk, Virgil Abloh, Honey Dijon, Brodinski, Pangaea, Midland, Moxie, Joy Orbison, Leon Vynehall, Seth Troxler, Ben UFO, and The Carry Nation. 2023 was a banner year for Leonce, producing and headlining Atlanta’s Boiler Room in April, and then going on to tour in London, Berlin, Milan, Edinburgh, Manchester, and Barcelona. In August, Leonce supported the Atlanta tour stop on Beyonce’s Renaissance Tour, playing to a crowd of 70,000 in Atlanta’s Mercedes Benz Stadium. In October, Leonce remixed Kai Alcé and Ash Lauryn’s ‘Underground & Black’ and teamed up with British-Ghanaian artist Karen Nyame KG on the track ‘Nightryde,’ which featured in DJ Mag and Mixmag.
