His greatest influences come from witnessing the Flaming Lips in high school, living in Berlin in 2018, and, most recently, experiencing Detroit Movement Festival. He loves small animals. His sets are built on accumulation — low frequencies, loops that shift slowly, percussion that nudges rather than strikes. The kind of energy that keeps a room locked without needing to announce itself. That same approach carries into his work with Le Petit Box, where he's been part of shaping a scene that values intimacy over spectacle — parties across backyards, studios, and club rooms, a floor that forms slowly and holds. He's brought that sensibility into larger spaces like Elsewhere, SILO, and Bossa Nova Civic Club. SAMI has secured several residencies across New York, released his own techno productions, and solidified himself as a top-tier event organizer and booker through his contributions to Le Petit Box (where he’s booked artists like Joy Anonymous, Baauer, Woody Cook, Pat Lok, BRUX, and Ninajirachi). He’s also played a pivotal role in growing Le Petit Box’s online presence, helping the space organically grow within the Brooklyn scene. SAMI’s approach to DJing centers on spinning the right sound for the right crowd, creating cohesion and energy on the dance floor. While his primary focus and production lean toward techno, he is versatile and adept at playing open format for Le Petit Box’s monthly parties, adjusting his set to suit each event's vibe. Stef Ozaru is a collection of many efforts, dedicated to being an intimate force that pushes New York techno forward. His involvement with music expands far past ripping a proper set. As a curator, event organizer, or back line provider, Stef Ozaru is a brand recognized as integral. As an artist, his sets are the embodiment of New York. Whether through digital or vinyl, Stef blends old and new tracks to create a unique soundscape across any genre he focuses on. As a DJ focused on genre-bending, he takes elements such as dissonance, left field, groove, and breaks to create a unique style that is unmistakably techno. Though techno is the main objective, he also loves to appear in Minimal/Deephouse line ups, as well as DnB and Jungle events.
