Mochi got his start spinning records as a student at the University of Oregon, where he hosted several radio programs on KWVA 88.1 FM. Since relocating to Chicago in 2016, he has brought his sound to dozens of venues across the city, landing residencies at local hot spots like Soho House, Ace Hotel, and The Whistler. In 2020, amidst the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mochi co-launched Global Currency, a live-stream event on Twitch celebrating international sound system culture. Since landing a new home at Sleeping Village at the start of 2022, the event has quickly emerged as one of Chicago’s hottest dance parties. As a brand, Global Currency has officially partnered with Red Bull, featured top DJs from around the country, and headlined multiple music festivals to date. Mochi’s versatility as an artist has led him to a variety of high-profile bookings. He has performed at Soulection's “Link Up” event, spun official after-parties for Afrobeats superstars like Burna Boy and BNXN (FKA Buju), and directly supported global talent, including Tame Impala, Lizzo, Tierra Whack, and Juls. Mochi frequently travels throughout North America, appearing on stages in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Toronto, Denver, Indianapolis, and Portland. In 2022, the Chicago Reader recognized Mochi for “Best career breakout by a DJ” in their annual Best of Chicago edition. A prolific artist well-known for his relentless work rate, and six year stint as a DJ on BBC Radio 1Xtra, DJ Q’s speedy, characteristic sound first gained notoriety via his 2007 bassline smash hit ‘U Wot’, but it’s his tireless schedule that’s kept him secure in the minds of the record buying public. To date, DJ Q has over one hundred productions and remixes under his belt, his solo album, ‘Ineffable’, was released on Local Action in 2014, the collaborative TQD album, ‘UKG’, dropped in 2017, and his ‘All Night’ album was released earlier this year. Recent tracks ‘Time To Shine’ and ‘Rock Wit You’ with Jack Junior are the latest additions to what’s become an incredible discography, and heading into summer with a benchmark compilation series to his name, Q’s enthusiasm shows no sign of waning. It’s in the live arena that DJ Q’s technical ability and passion for the music really shines through. Most of Teesside babies from 88 onwards will have at some point been on the dance music train and some will have been within the involvement of steering it towards its destinations. One such local DJ that has always been there from the mid 90’s and still to this day continues to do so is Milhouse. Playing at parties and promoting them has allowed Mil to be educated in electronic music since an early age and he is well respected for being one of the first people to bring artists such as Nic Fanciulli, Jordan Peak, Martin Dawson, Dan Ghenacia, Jef k and many more to the area as well as the guy whom set up the first ever initial riffraff party and was the first ever riffraff DJ to take to the decks after a chance meeting came about an old school friend with Lee Pennington. Parting ways with riffraff after he helped get it going in its very early stages so that he could follow his own musical path brought Mil on a journey where he would become resident DJ and promoter of “Right On” another monthly dance music party and play alongside some exceptional guests and also found himself on the road to play at super club Sankey’s and help run capture FM radio show. Eight years later and Mil’s road has brought him full circle where him and Lee Pennington once again are reunited and he is a valued and respected member of the riffraff squad. Mils musical style ranges from hip hop right through to house and techno and this is what you hear and witness in his eclectic sets either if he is warming up or playing headline slots he always delivers the goods.
