the whole biography
PlayPlay combines their penchant for percussion and bass with nostalgic samples & dreamy synths in both their DJ sets & music production. Their sound is inspired by over two decades of raving, crate digging and the sounds they grew up dancing to - 90s club anthems, jungle and DnB, minimal wave, classic house, techno and old school hip-hop. They have played at venues such as Good Room, Elsewhere, Jupiter Disco, MOMA PS1, and Bossa Nova Civic Club and at festivals such as Brooklyn Mag Festival. Over the past decade, they've had the privilege of playing alongside artists such as Big Freedia, TT the Artist, Le1f, Quest?onmarc, MikeQ, GRRL, UNIIQU3, Jubilee and Bored Lord, releasing guest mixes on The Lot Radio, Rinse FM, WIDE Radio, JEROME Worldwide and more. With releases out on labels such as Clasico Records, Sorry Records, Worst Behavior and Delusional Records, as well as a slew of self-releases and collaborations, PlayPlay has been slowly and steadily amassing a thumping discography over the years. Their music has been featured on radio programs such as BBC Radio 1, NTS Radio, Rinse FM and the Lot Radio and can be heard in underground clubs around the world (some of which they're probably dancing in). PlayPlay also loves to collaborate, remixing music from artists such as Bored Lord and Big Dipper and and has had their music remixed by Suzi Analogue, Jasmine Infiniti, Bored Lord, James Bangura, Scottie B, Escaflowne and more. PlayPlay and fellow queer southern producer C Powers have released their collaborative, slow cooked breakbeat EP Breaking Capacity under the moniker PowerPlay on Sorry Records. They currently host two parties: Breaking Capacity, a quarterly party dedicated to all things breaks, and Satisfaction of What’s to Come, a quarterly party celebrating the many iterations of house music.House on 8, Techno on 6, Breaks on 6 and Breakbeat on 5. styles on their catalogued releasesReleased on Clasico Records (2) (1), Delusional Records (2) (1) and No Bias (1); their RA profile also lists Sorry Records, FPE Records and Worst Behavior Recs. labels on their catalogued releases and on their RA profileRecently at Bossa Nova Civic Club, Earthly Delights, Mood Ring · often with Janus Rose, MF BUTCH, Lychee, none of them here that night

C Powers’ sound is informed by years spent collecting records in Atlanta and Chicago, honing crowd control skills in the foggy clubs of London, fostering queer dancing spaces and performing as DJ for the House Of Gunt in Savannah GA, and solidarity dance nights in Portland OR. Cecilia’s sets and releases combine elements of gay camp, anti-sophistication, extended turntable technique, and a sense of juxtaposition molded by a DJ career that has strayed from the traditional “club” spaces. Cecilia has been heavily active in anti-displacement advocacy beginning with organizing rent strikes with undocumented families in LA and currently working to build the tenant movement in Portland. Cecilia became a co-founding member of People’s City Council and then Don’t Evict Portland, and the experiences she’s had behind the decks and in organizing spaces have begun to meld as she has explored bringing music into the organizing space and weaponizing audio for disruption.Their RA profile lists CGI Records, Alliance Upholstery, Sweat Equity NYC, Sorry Records and 2 more.Recently at Bossa Nova Civic Club · often with Fugitive Artifact, Nick Boyd, Doula, none of them here that night
