the whole biography
Ryan Maxwell brings a refreshing energy to the underground house scene. His passion for music shows in every aspect of his sets—through his deep, carefully dug selections and rare finds that span decades, geographies, and moods. He doesn’t overwork the decks or force the moment—instead, he lets the music breathe, trusting the groove and energy of the room to take shape naturally. That subtle confidence creates space for people to lose themselves, to find presence, and to feel something real. Rooted in New York and New Jersey, Ryan moves fluidly through the underground soundscape with range and intention. His style isn’t bound by trends—he’s focused on mood, movement, and storytelling. Every set is a dynamic, evolving experience designed to meet the moment and elevate the crowd without overpowering it. Ryan also curates Affect—a concept that began as his residency party for the Beneath and has since grown into its own series of events across NYC. Built on intimacy and connection, Affect is about more than music—it’s about presence. No phones. No ego. Just pure energy and community on the dance floor. For Ryan, it’s never just about playing tracks—it’s about telling a story, building a journey, and letting the music do the talking.Recently at Althea's Rooftop, Mehanata Bar, Hotel Chantelle · often with Danner, Jasper James, Nasser Baker, none of them here that night
